Avalyn
When my eyes opened, I realised that it was the middle of the night and I was lying on the bed, on my back.
I looked at Nikolai.
Like everything he did, Nik slept with concentration too. His eyebrows weren’t frowning but they were not relaxed either. His lips were closed, his jaw set. He didn’t snore, nor did he move too much in his sleep like I did. His hand was still cupping my boob-he sleeps like this and doesn’t let go all night. He’s like a baby that way, can’t sleep without a ‘soft toy’. I almost giggled at my own joke. Almost, thankfully. I didn’t want to wake him up, he hardly got any sleep as it is. And it was very rare for me to catch him asleep-he slept after me and woke up before me.
I was feeling a little hot so I decided to step out in the cool air for some time. I tried to get out of Nik’s hold but at the slightest movement, he frowned, his hold on me getting tighter. I bit my lip as heat shot straight down to my core.
Not now, Avalyn.
I tickled his nose a little and he released his hold on me, brushing his nose in his sleep. I took that as an opportunity and slipped out of bed. I picked up the shirt Nik had tossed on the floor before sleeping and wore it, doing a couple of buttons.
I walked past the seating area, opened the ceiling to floor sliding windows and entered the vast balcony. I stood at the edge and rested my hands on the edge of the balcony.
The moon looked beautiful. It’s light fell upon the town, casting a silver glow on the houses that were far away and below us. Yellow lamp hung outside their houses, encasing the town in a warm glow of its own. Straight ahead was the view of mountain ranges and their snow covered peaks. It always seemed to spark a question in my mind- why does our mountain, being the highest one of the entire dimension not have snow? The others did. And whenever we went to the peak of another mountain for runs or something, the snow seemed to disappear. I mean I was thankful to be honest, too much snow and too much cold could get annoying. And we had the perfect weather.
But it was annoying not knowing the answers.
It was too dark to see clearly but in the far distance, I could see the reflection of the moon in the ocean. And I knew that our house was there somewhere. Silverwitch Bay was home. But Soare-Luna was where we belong. This is our new home.
A cool wind blew and goosebumps rose on my skin but I didn’t really feel cold. It was pleasant. I took a deep breath of the fresh air and remembered just how much I loved the mountains.
I started feeling hot all of a sudden, from inside out. Almost like… like I had a fever. Which wasn’t possible. Supernaturals don’t get sick. And then slowly, an uneasy feeling grew in my stomach. I felt like I was at a war with myself. About what? I didn’t know.
Suddenly, arms came around my waist and my heart stopped before I realised how familiar they were. Nik kissed the top of my head. “You weren’t in bed with me.” His tone was accusing and his voice was gruff with sleep.
A shiver passed through me at how hot it sounded. Heat shot straight to my core. I wanted him.
“Can’t sleep.” I mumbled and turned around in his arms and slipped mine around his waist and rested my head on his chest, listening to his steady and strong heartbeat.
“You smell divine, Moya Lyubov,” his chest rumbled as he dug his nose in my neck.
The uneasy feeling grew and I tried to seek the comfort Nik’s hugs usually provided. It felt good but the peace I usually felt wasn’t there. From the inside, I felt… unsettled, rattled. His touch felt better than it ever did but from the inside, I felt uneasy. Like a storm was brewing. I wasn’t at peace.
“Hug me properly.” I demanded and his arms coiled tighter around my frame and he placed a kiss on top of my head, taking a deep breath, like he was breathing more of my scent.
Yes, it felt good, but it lacked something.
I let out a low whine of complaint. He hugged me tighter and caressed my back. His touch sent tingles unlike anything I had ever felt down my spine and I could feel myself growing wet. But I felt extremely emotional. He wasn’t giving me the innate peace he usually did.
Nik took another deep sniff, his hard on pressing against me now, demanding attention.
Grunting, I pushed him back, not wanting to hug him anymore. “You just don’t love me anymore.” Tears sprung in my eyes. I was feeling a whirlwind of emotions within me. I was feeling uneasy, horny and unstable. It was the worst combination ever.
“What?” His eyebrows shot up.
“Yes. You aren’t hugging me properly.” Hot tears rolled down my cheeks and I walked away from him, wiping my eyes.
The reason I wasn’t at peace in his arms was because it wasn’t warm enough and wasn’t heartfelt enough. Yes. My wolf was absent and he probably doesn’t feel the mate bond as much. Therefore, feelings for me has decreased. That can be the only possible reason.
“Ava.” He called. “I love you. You can’t seriously believe otherwise.” He caught my arm and spun me around so that I faced him.
“Feel this,” he ground his erection against me, “this is what just your scent does to me.” He placed an open mouthed kiss on my mark and I moaned, feeling like I could cum if he kissed me there one more time. “Now feel this,” his lips lowered on mine and he gave me a ferocious kiss, full of hunger, possession and love. Both his hands held my head in the proper angle. Warmth spread through my belly, slowly taking over the uneasy and unsettled feeling.
After he was done kissing my lips thoroughly, he peppered kisses all over my face, mumbling I-love -you’s in between.
“Believe me now?” He rasped, his lips a millimetre away from mine and his eyes were amused.
I scowled and slapped his hand away. “I’m not joking!”
“What do you want me to do to prove to you that I love you?” He asked.
“I don’t know, Nikolai.” I turned away from him and crossed my arms.
Suddenly a small ball of fire appeared in front of me. It was so tiny that it looked like a firefly.
And then one more. And some more. And more.
They small balls of fire surrounded me and they moved in together as if they were dancing.
My lips parted at how beautiful it was.
I’ve never seen anything like it.
I twirled around myself and saw that they were all around me.
I extended a finger and a small ball of fire came and sat on the tip.
A smile erupted on my face.
And then all the balls rose in the air. I raised my head to look at them.
They all moved in synchronisation and words formed.
‘I love you’
I gasped.
