“Do you want to hear the bad news?” The corner of his lips slowly twitches into a smirk, as she turns around to face her. Cassie glares hard at her, wondering where this woman is from. Yes, it’s obvious that she’s a werewolf, but what does she want from her? Why is she doing this to her? Those are the puzzles she has been trying to solve all to no avail.
“Not that I care anyway,” She scoffs and rolls her eyes, turning her face away, and Helga can’t help the dry chuckle that escapes her lips. Easier said than done. Of course, she knows that this little lamb in front of her is just trying to be courageous in front of her, she knows that she cares so much about Damien, and by the time she learns the doom ahead of them, she’ll realize that she does really cares.
“You’ll eventually do, Cassie. Alpha Damien and Dean are on their way here, along with his soldiers…” Helga pauses to observe the shocked expression that suddenly creeps up Cassie’s face, and her heart sinks into her stomach. For some unknown reason, she doesn’t have a good feeling about the news she just heard. This woman here is dangerous and may end up hurting the two brothers and his people.
“You weren’t expecting that, were you? Well, it has always been my dream, anyway…” Helga pauses and tucks her hair behind her ear.
“I wanted to destroy the whole of blue moon pack and make them pay for all the pain that I went through… But why should I destroy them, when I can become their Luna instead?” Helga chuckles softly and rolls her eyes. It seems to her that she’s enjoying every bit of it, leaving Cassie still in the dark as she has no clue about what’s happening now.
“Why are you doing this?” A drop of tears slid down the corner of Cassie’s cheek as she slowly clenches her fists. Anger sparks through her. She wouldn’t hesitate to try to stop this woman, if only she can stand up from this place, but too bad that she has held her down with whichever spell she cast on her. Maybe she’s going to be stuck here forever until she finally loses her life.
“Revenge is always sweet, Cassie… That is what I’m doing. Do you want me to tell you a story?” Helga further asks, as she walks over to the black armchair in the room, and sits elegantly on it, reclining on it proudly and confidently like her life depends on it.
“Just thirty-five years ago, I was living just fine with my husband and the pack members… We loved each other so much and we ruled in peace… But it only lasted until that monster took everything away from me… I watched him murder my husband before my eyes…” Helga narrates with so much disdain resounding in her voice, as she glares at her hands with resentment.
“The cries of my people… The cries of my husband as he begged for his life… Those are what I can never forget, no matter how much I tried to. Every day, those voice keeps haunting me in my dreams and crying for justice…” Helga’s eyes finally well up in tears as she bites her bottom lip. All these years after the death of her beloved husband, she has been trying to be fine, she has been trying to act like everything was fine, but deep inside her, she knows that she’s not. Her heart is bleeding, her soul is hurt and each time she thought of her husband, she couldn’t deny the cries for justice that have been lurking around her heart for so many years. Even after the death of that monster, she still hasn’t felt satisfied. She wants to make them all pay from generation to generation until his lineage no longer exists. Only then, will she feel her husband’s death justified.
Cassie stares at her pathetically. Seeing the pain in her eyes, for some reason she can’t explain, hurts her so much and she wishes that she can comfort her.
“Alpha Damien… Did he do it?” She shouldn’t be asking her this, but her curiosity wouldn’t let her keep her mouth shut. She’s just curious to know more.
“He didn’t… The monster he called a father… He killed my husband and the innocent werewolves of our pack!” Helga roars, springing up to her feet, and Cassie flinches fearfully as she feels her heart misses a beat.
“The man… He’s already dead…”
“I want to make his generations pay for it. That is why I need your powers. You’re useless to me anyways, except for the power. I just need your father to come here and give me access to your power. You’re going to die after I’m done with you, anyway,” Helga says with a smirk dancing at the corner of her lips.
Her heart wrenches in pain as she bites her bottom lip. Tears stream down her cheeks as she glares at Helga with so much resentment. Why should she even resent the woman? Besides, it was never her fault that her life is like this anyway. As much as she wants to see that monster and strangle him to death because of what he has done to her in the past, knowing that he’s the only family that she has on earth, she can’t help having a rethink about it.
“It doesn’t hurt that I’m going to die anyway… I mean, I have been living in pain, so there’s no point begging for my life, right?” A drop of tears slid down her cheek as she stares into space. Maybe letting her heart out for the first time to this stranger won’t harm her. Besides, she’s going to lose her life eventually anyway. As much as she doesn’t want to think about it, she still feels so hurt that this has to happen to her. She never had any family love while she was growing up, and now nothing has changed anyway.
“My father… He never liked me for once… I don’t want to think about it, I don’t want to feel hurt, I want to act like it’s nothing… But deep inside me, I can’t help the pain that keeps ripping my heart apart. I can’t help the craving for love and affection from the only family that I have…” She pauses and wipes the tears from her eyes.
“I grew up as a child with nothing, but pain. What was my offense, I know you may be wondering… Even I have been confused for many years. Why would a father treat his own child like that? Well, the silly answer is that I lost my mom while she gave birth to me. Because of me, he lost the woman he has grown to love so deeply, and now I have to suffer for it,” Seeing the pain in her eyes as she narrates her life story, for some unknown reasons, Helga feels touched, she feels her heart aches for her, and she wishes that she can take her pain away. What’s this unusual feeling she’s having now? That’s the question that keeps ringing in her head as she stares at Cassie. Who is she? Why is she feeling connected to her?
“Why are you telling me this?” Helga finally asks after a long silence, scrutinizing her with her eyes.
“I have been walking around with the burden in my heart because there was no one to share it with. Yes, I was scared of what my father would do to me initially when he finds out that I disclosed the secret to someone else, but as time goes by… I felt that there was no reason to lift the burden, knowing that it’ll always be there…” She pauses and sighs briefly.
“Why did I tell you? I don’t know, honestly. Maybe because I want to let my burden off, but is that enough reason to trust a stranger with such information about me? Well, the answer is no. Besides, I’m going to die soon anyway. Isn’t it better to let it off, than to take it to my grave with me?” She shrugs casually, having a small smile dancing on her lips. But behind the smile, lies painful tears…
