Later in the evening…
‘Because you’re not doing the right thing’ Dean’s words ring in his head again, and he stops abruptly and scoffs unbelievably. No, so he was expecting him to believe that lies when his expression said something different? Was he expecting to convince him with that lies that he was wrong about his expression? He can’t be fooled by him, he can fool every other person, but not him.
His mind wanders off to the thoughts of Cassie, and he sighs briefly as he finally crashes on the bed.
‘What if she’s innocent? A man can’t withstand ten whips and would confess his sins, she took forty-five and still stood her ground, didn’t that convince you enough that she’s innocent?’ Dean’s words echo in his head, and he runs his fingers through his hair. What if she’s really innocent? How come it was found in her room? Those are the question he keeps asking himself until the sound of his door opening pulls his attention. Raising his gaze, he finds Kai standing there and glaring hard at him.
“Can’t you knock?” He quickly envelopes his worries with a hard glare, pretending to be fine.
“Just quit with the pretense and stop giving me that look. It’s obvious that you’re worried about her,” Kai rolls his eyes, walking over to the chair in the room, and sitting on it comfortably.
He’s right, after all, he’s not only worried about her, but he’s disturbed about his brother’s attitude, and what they must be doing now.
“I’m not,” He lies to Kai anyway, but deep inside him, he has so many questions that he wants to ask, he has so many things to be clarified of.
“I told you that you can’t do this, I told you that you’ll regret this, but you didn’t want to listen to me…”
“The look on his face earlier… It meant something. Is there anything Dean is hiding from me?” He should be directing that question to his brother, so why the hell is he asking his best friend?
“Why don’t you ask him that? He’s your brother, and you know him better than anyone else can ever know him. Why don’t you…”
“Do you think that I’ll be asking you this if he told me himself? You know what? Just leave. I need to figure out something,” He says to Kai dismissively.
“Alright… Let me know when you feel like talking to me, OK?” And with that, Kai stands up and starts walking over to the door, but he stops him.
“Kai…” He pauses and bites his bottom lip. He wants to ask him if he knows how Cassie is doing, but he quickly decides against it.
“Do you have anything to say?” Kai asks him, and he shakes his head in denial.
“In that case, I’ll be on my way then,” And with that, he pulls the door open and stride out of the room, leaving him to sort himself out.
He sighs briefly, burying his face in his palms…
Dean’s room…
“She’s out of danger now. She should be awake in a few minutes,” The physician says to Dean after checking her pulse, and Dean nods his head.
“I’ll take my leave now, my lord,” And with that, the old physician walks over to the door and exit the room.
Dean sighs softly as he sits on the chair beside the bed, whilst staring at her face. She looks extremely beautiful while sleeping, and he can’t help admiring her beautiful face. All these years of his life, he never imagined that he’ll one day find his mate. He was always busy with work, and never thought about it, not even for once, but now that she’s here with him, he feels like he doesn’t need anything in the world again, he feels like all he needs now is her.
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” Rohan, his wolf speaks inside him and he nods his head. Slowly, he tucks the strand of hair on her forehead behind her ear and smiles softly. He can’t wait for her to finally wake up, he can’t wait to finally claim her as his and be with her for the rest of his life.
A few minutes later, Cassie opens her eyes slowly to be welcomed by the blurry ceiling. Her head hurts so badly that it affects her eyes, so she closed them back, trying to get used to the pain. The pain reduces a bit, and she slowly opens her eyes again, and this time, her vision isn’t blurred like the first time.
“Where am I?” She wonders as she stares at the ceiling. Could it be that she died and was in heaven? But then, this place doesn’t look a bit like heaven. Not that she has been there before to know what it looks like, but judging from how it was described in movies and how it was portrayed in stories, this place doesn’t look like it.
“You’re awake?” Hearing a strange masculine voice, she slowly tilts her head to see a young handsome man bending over a table and placing a mug of hot herb on it. Staring at him, he wonders who the person is, and why he’s here with her.
“Where…” Her words are cut in her mouth when he stands up and turns to face her. She recognizes the face immediately, not that she has seen him before, but seeing the resemblance between him and alpha Damien, she need not be told that he must be the alpha’s said twin brother.
‘He looks innocent, but he’s dangerous inside. He’s more dangerous than alpha Damien’ recalling Zoey’s words, fear grips her, and she gulps down nothing nervously.
“Wh… what do you want from me? I… I… I didn’t poison your brother…” She stutters nervously, as she sits up on the bed, and draws back from him, maybe trying to escape. Her whole body is sore from the beating she had received earlier, but the fear in her heart won’t let her feel the pain. What’s he going to do to her now? Is he going to punish her for what she was accused of? Why don’t they just kill her rather than make her pass through this pain?
Seeing the fear in her eyes, he sighs sadly and turns his gaze away. He wishes that he can take her pain away, he wishes he can erase the bad memory away, and maybe start afresh with her, but too bad that wiping memories is not within his power, and even if it were to be, it won’t be permanent, so there’ll be no point trying it anyway.
“I brought you herb. You should take it, and get some rest,” He says, then picks it up from the table and hands it over to her.
She stares at him for a few seconds, contemplating whether to take the herb or not. What if he poisoned the herb? What if he’s trying to kill her? She keeps asking herself. She finally takes it from him.
“Thank you,” She mumbles as her hands tremble in fear.
“You should drink it before it gets cold. I’ll leave you now,” And with that, he turns around and walks out of the room, closing the door gently behind him, while she just stares in confusion…
