Chapter 53

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

Dean’s face drops as he feels his wolf moves aggressively inside him as if it has been wounded badly. Slowly, he touches his heart and feels it racing rapidly. He gulps down nothing as he tries to convince herself that he’s just hallucinating, but it doesn’t look like it.
Staring at her on her knees helplessly with her head drops down as if she’s already dead, his heart throbs painfully, as his wolf suddenly crawls out through his eyes to check for himself. Seeing her like that, it feels as though a sharp dagger was thrust right into his heart.
“Mate!” This time, he heard the roars of his wolf loudly. For the first time in years, his wolf has finally spoken. He thought that he was dead all along, he thought that he already left him as he never felt him in a while, but he still lives within him, he needed someone to wake him up… He needed his mate to wake him up from his sleep of years, and now the time is finally here.
“Untie him,” He roars, as he springs up to his feet, getting the attention of everyone to himself. He stares into space dangerously as he clenches his fists. He tries to control the deadly anger that tries to consume him, but his wolf has taken over him, and he can’t seem to calm him down. He feels guilty for not recognizing her before, he feels guilty watching her get punished all this time, and the thought of it hurts him.
“Dean?” Alpha Damien calls confusingly, as he springs up to his feet, wondering what has come over his brother suddenly.
“Don’t make me repeat myself. You’ll all regret it if she spends another minute in that chain,” His voice is calm, but of course, he can’t fool anyone with his calm voice. He’s dangerous, he kills without mercy. Yes, he looks innocent outside and doesn’t look like he can hurt a fly, but he’s just like a viper. Nobody messes with him and gets to be free.
Hearing this from him, without waiting for the alpha’s order, the guard quickly rushes over to her and unties her from the chain, leaving everyone stunned. He may not be the alpha, but he got the power. His brother rules the pack, but him? He rules the darkness.
Damien watches as he slowly climbs down the stairs, and walks over to where Cassie is lying.
Picking her up in his arms, he glares hard at Damien for a few seconds, turning around and walking out of the throne room afterward, leaving everyone stunned. What the heck just happened?
Later in the day…
Recalling the look on Dean’s face earlier, alpha Damien sighs for the umpteenth time as he paces restlessly in the garden. He has been trying to understand what happened back there, but everything still seems so confusing to her.
The look on Dean’s face earlier explained possession, and although he knows what it meant, he doesn’t want to conclude yet.
“You said to see me,” Still lost in thoughts, he hears Dean’s voice behind him, and he turns around to see him standing behind him with the usual calm look on his face. Anyone seeing this young man for the first time would think that he’s a gentleman, he can fool anyone else with that look, but not his brother. They’re twins, and he knows him more than anyone else does.
“What was the meaning of that?” He asks, trying not to sound rude to him. At least, that’s his way of respecting the man that came out of the same womb with him on the same day.
“The meaning of what?” As if Dean has no idea what his brother is talking about, he pulls a puzzled look as he returns the dumb question to him.
“Don’t play the pretense card with me, Dean. What was that?” He asks for the second time, his voice a bit high with anger resounding in it. He was trying to be patient and not get mad at him, but this reaction is driving him crazy. Recalling how he looked at her, recalling how he picked her in his arms as if she belongs to him, the thought of it gets him so angry, and if it were to be someone else that did that, maybe he would’ve been gone by now. He wouldn’t have let the person live to see the next minute, let alone tell the story.
“Why were you punishing her?” Dean asks him casually as if he was not aware of what she was accused of.
“You know about it…”
“Because she poisoned you? What if she didn’t?” Dean asks calmly and confidently as if he already investigated her and was sure that she’s innocent of the accusation.
“I think you should study criminology again, don’t you think?” Dean pauses and sighs softly. He walks past him and touches the lotus flower in the garden, sniffing the sweet scent of it.
“She didn’t look she did it. She would’ve confessed if she was the culprit. The whip…” Dean pauses and turns to face him, this time, the look on his face shows so much anger and pain. Recalling how she had cried her eyes out, how she tried to hold on, the thought of it rips his heart off, and if it were to be someone else that had done that, he wouldn’t have let the person lives for the next second.
“That whip, although it has never been used on me, I know how painful it is. A man can’t even withstand getting ten lashes of it before confessing his sins, but she took forty-five of it, and still stood her ground. Do you know that the whip not only causes damage to the skin but to the bones also? She’s a woman for crying out loud, why would you do that to her no matter what she had done to you? Isn’t there any other way to do it than inflicting that much pain on her?” Dean finally snaps at him with anger resounding in his voice.
“Why are you so pained? Why do you feel so angry about…”
“Because you’re not doing the right thing…”
“The look on your face… You’re hiding something from me, right? What is it you’re hiding from me, Dean?” He sneers at him. He’s not a fool to believe what he said. There was more to his action, and he’s not going to believe what he said.
Dean glares hard at him, and with that, he turns around and walks out of the garden…
