“No! This can’t be! Me? In love with alpha Damien? Oh! I’m losing my mind,” Cassie whines frustratingly, running her fingers through her hair. It was almost evening, and she came to the garden with Milo to get fresh air. Zoey’s words have been replaying in her head, and she has been trying to wrap her head around everything, but it’s driving her crazy. As much as she wants to convince herself that she’s not in love with him, seeing the truth staring back at her, she can’t deny it.
His image flashes through her mind, and she finds her heart beating rapidly, causing her to clutch it tightly as if preventing it from popping out of her chest.
“Oh no! This is not happening,” She shrieks for the umpteenth time, hitting her chest slightly.
“Milo, what’s happening?” She looks to her side and asks the little cat that is busy drinking from the drops of water that fills a large portion of a leaf.
“Meow… Meow…” Milo cries out again, and she sighs deeply realizing that the innocent cat is only an animal, and can’t possibly answer her question.
“Urgh!” She groans frustratingly, throwing her head back, and sighs deeply. Her head is about to explode having so many thoughts ringing in her mind.
“Alpha Damien doesn’t do maids, and even if he does, you’re the seed of his enemy. Were you by chance thinking that you’ll ever get a chance with him?” Recalling Astrid’s words, she bites her bottom lips as the realization hits her hard. What was she even thinking? How could she have allowed herself to do this? How could she have forgotten why she was here in the first place? She’s just like a ticking time bomb that’ll explode anytime soon. The only reason she’s still alive is because her father hasn’t been found yet, she will definitely be fed to the dogs once the man is found.
“Why’s my life this miserable? Why am I even existing?” Tears trickle down her cheeks as she stares into space. This is the time she needs Madam Leila the most, maybe she would’ve comforted her if she were to be here, maybe she would’ve poured out her heart to her if she were to be around, but she’s left to suffer all alone here.
“I hate you, Nicolai! I hate you, Robert! You’re a monster!” More tears stream down her cheeks as she says those words with resentment in her voice while staring into space. She wants to tell the whole world how she feels, she wants to cry her eyes out and pour out her heart, but it hurts deeply that nobody gives a fuck about her. It hurts that she has to live by herself and comfort herself.
“How much do you hate him?” A familiar masculine voice pulls her attention from her back, and she quickly snaps her head to look at the person. It’s Damien’s beta, Kai.
She quickly stands up to her feet and wipes off her tears. She turns her face away in embarrassment. She wouldn’t have allowed her tears out if she had known that he was around.
“Have you been here for long?” She finds herself asking him curiously, as she bites her bottom lip.
“Yes, quite long. Are you concerned about that?” He asks with a smirk dancing at the corner of his lips.
“For how long?” She asks embarrassingly.
“So long before you came in,” Her cheeks flush in embarrassment upon realizing that he watched her cry. Gosh! She squeezes her face as she touches her forehead, looking everywhere else except his face.
“There’s nothing to feel embarrassed about. We all cry, so it’s fine,” He’s just trying to comfort her and make her feel good, but it’s not working.
“If you don’t mind, you can talk to me if you need anyone to talk to. I’m friendly. At least, I’m not like someone that’s so grumpy and scares everyone away,” he smiles at her softly. Anyone that knows alpha Damien would know that this young man is talking about him. The audacity is out of the world, but what do you expect from a best friend to the Alpha? He wouldn’t dare to hurt his best friend, no matter what he said about him, right?
“Thank you,” she whispers, but loud enough to his hearing, and he nods his head.
“So, do you have anything bothering you?” He asks with concern resounding in his voice, and Cassie raises her gaze to look up at him.
“Nothing. I’m fine,” She forces a faint smile. As much as she needs someone to talk to, this man standing before her is still a stranger to her, even if she has his cat with her. She can’t trust the people here, at least not this man.
“Alright, if you say so. How has Milo been?” He changes the topic, taking his attention to Milo that didn’t even acknowledge his presence.
“He’s fine and healthy,” She replies as she walks over to it and picks it up in her arms.
“Meow… Meow…” Milo coos softly as it rests its head on her chest, wiggling its tail slowly.
“Come on, Milo,” he tries to collect it from her, but it shrieks and moves away from him.
“Wow! How ungrateful of this little kitten. I brought him up all his life, but he has just spent some days with you, and he doesn’t want to come to me again. I feel used,” He whines softly, and Cassie chuckles softly because of the funny face he made.
“See ya, I made you laugh,” He pinches her cheek, and she smiles softly.
“Thank you. But, Milo is not ungrateful, maybe I treat him better than you do, that’s why he grew so attached to me,” she teases him, and he chuckles.
“I don’t blame him. I barely spend time with him, so I understand that he’s acting this way,” He smiles softly.
“Come here, you deserve this,” Out of the blue, he places his palm on her head and ruffles her hair slowly and softly.
“Cassie!” The thunderous voice of alpha Damien fills the air, and Kai snaps his head to see his dear friend standing just at the entrance of the garden, looking enraged…
