Chapter 22

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

Evening…
Unlike every other day that he’d feel so lively after a long ride, today was different. He went out earlier today to race, in a bid to get rid of his messy thoughts lately, but nothing worked out for him as it only worsened his state of mind.
Standing in the garden and staring into space, his mind is occupied with so many thoughts. He has been sad lately, he has been broken, and he needs someone to talk to. Someone that’ll understand that he’s in pain, someone that won’t judge him, but since his beta is not around, then there’s absolutely no one he could share his problem with. Being a leader is indeed tough. You would have to act strong even when you can’t hold on anymore, you have to act like everything is fine even when dying slowly inside, and it hurts badly.
Taking a deep breath, he throws his head back as tears slowly trickles down his cheeks. Sometimes he just wants to scream his lungs out and tell the whole world how much pain he’s suffering inside, sometimes he feels like to just cry bitterly, sometimes he just needs someone to hug him and give him the comfort that he needs, but too bad that his mother was the one that used to give him all that, and she’s no more to do that for him. This is enough to break him, right?
It’s sad when you’re sad but can’t point out what exactly the problem is, it’s sad when you feel so angry, but at yourself and no one else.
The thoughts of Cassie flash through his mind, and he sighs briefly. It’s sad that he finally found the seed of the one that caused him so much pain, but can’t even do anything to her, because he needs her to bring down the real culprit.
“My lord… Are you OK?” Just when he was thinking of her, she speaks from behind him, pulling him back to reality. He blinks his eyes in surprise, unsure whether to turn around to face her or asks her to leave.
Slowly, he wipes the tears from his eyes before turning around to face her. Although it’s dark, he can see her innocent eyes staring up at him with so much concern written on them. The sudden urge to pull her into his arms surges through him, but he tries as much to control himself.
“Are you OK?” She asks again, this time, her voice sounds worried with fear in it. Maybe she’s scared that he might harm her, or maybe she’s scared that he’s not OK.
“Leave!” He quickly turns his gaze away from her, as soon as he found himself getting charmed by those innocent eyes of hers. For some seconds, his heart races uncomfortably as if it’s trying to force its way out of his chest. His breath hitches as he gulps down the sudden lump that formed in his throat.
“My lord…” She purses her lips as she turns her gaze away. She has been standing there for a while and staring at him. Even if he refuses to talk to her, she already detected that he was not ok. He didn’t look like he was fine.
“I told you to leave,” even if he tries to sound bold, his voice ends up coming out calmly.
“I prepared your bath water. I want to ask if there’s anything I should do for you,” she tries to keep her voice in check as she utters calmly.
“You may leave,” this is unusual of him, and it’s already disturbing him. He would normally yell at her, but why is he being so calm with her this evening? Maybe because he’s not in a good mood.
She stares at him for some seconds before she finally turns around and strides out of the garden, leaving him alone there.
Taking a deep breath, he throws his head back as so many thoughts parades his mind. What happened moments ago is still confusing and hard to comprehend. Why was he feeling that way?
Pushing all the thoughts to the back of his mind, the thought of alpha Kayden of Blood Moon pack flashes through his mind, and he clenches his fists. Even if he wants to declare war against the Blood Moon pack, if that’s the only way to get Nicolai, he knows too well that it’ll be the worst mistake of his life. The lives of his soldiers will perish. Alpha Kayden is way stronger than him and his soldiers. Maybe he just has to be calmed and try to find a way to break the spell on Cassie. Maybe that’ll help as the priest has said…
Cassie Robert
I toss on the bed for the umpteenth time, sighing briefly. I have been trying to get some sleep, but the image of alpha Damien keeps popping in my head and getting me distracted. He didn’t look happy when I saw him in the garden, and something keep telling me that there was more to know about him.
Recalling how pained he looks, I know that something is indeed wrong with him.
Although it was dark, I got to stare at his face for some time before he turned his gaze away. I know from the onset that he’s cute, but I didn’t know that his eyes are so charming. They glow beautifully even in the darkness. Wow! He’s super handsome.
“Get some sleep already, Cassie. You’ll wake up early tomorrow, remember?” My subconscious mind reminds me, and I quickly close my eyes. Twenty minutes passed before I finally fall asleep.
The next day…
The loud bang on the door jolts me out of my deep slumber, and I toss on the bed tiredly and maintain my sleeping position.
“Are you there?” Another loud bang finally jerks me up, and I gasp at the sight that welcomes me as I open my eyes. It’s already late in the morning. What the heck! It’s late already. I’m doomed!
