Chapter 10

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

These past few days have been hell on earth for me. I have been made to labor in the castle, I have been literally turned into a slave, doing one work or the other, and it’s already driving me crazy. Madam Leila has visited me secretly whenever she can, so my stay here isn’t entirely boring. How I’m suffering for the crimes my father committed, is still a puzzle I’m yet to know how to solve. I’ve also been trying to weigh the possibility of me being a werewolf, but I just can’t still believe that. It’s horrible to even think about.
The thought of everything Madam Leila had told me earlier, came replaying in my head. ‘If you want to survive here, you have to obey the law. This place is not like every other place where you’re free to do what you want. I am telling you this because I like you a lot and I do not want you to get hurt’ her words have been ringing in my head since she told me that.
‘For the next two weeks, you have to stay in your room, I will attend to you and you’ll be informed when you should come out. Do not go out of the door, if you want to save your life’ her words rang in my head again and I was forced to shut my eyes frustratingly and confusingly. Something is not right, my instinct tells me that something might be going on out there, and the more I try to ignore it and adhere to what she had told me, it seems like something keeps pushing me toward it, and it’s disturbing.
Suddenly, I stand up from the bed and stride to the door, pull it open, and peek outside to see a man standing just a few distances from the door. It seems like he is there to keep eyes on me, which means that there’s no way I’ll be able to go outside the room.
“Gosh!” I groan frustratingly, crashing on my bed and trying to think of a way to get out of the room and find my way out there, I need to know what’s going on, they can’t just keep me in here like an animal and expect me to be fine with it, right?
An idea strike my mind and without waiting to give it a second thought, I spring up and saunter to the window which is far above the ground level and also small. From the size of it, I don’t think a chicken can fit in, let alone a human. How can they be so heartless to have done this to me? This place is just as good as a dungeon. I should thank my luck that they didn’t take me back to that prison.
I try to force myself out through the window, but I end up getting disappointed. What was I even expecting? The window is so small, so I give up trying. Crashing on my small wooden bed, I stare at the ceiling, tears well up in my eyes as the thought of my father fills my mind. How is he doing now? Is he fine without me? Has he gotten the happiness he had always wanted now that he has gotten rid of me? Those are the questions that keep parading my messed mind. I have tried grasping the good memories of us together, but sadly there are none, the only memories I have with him are all bad and painful. All my life, he never treated me like the human I am, but even so, I still love him, even if he was cruel to me and did all despicable things to me, I still miss him and wish I can see him again. I guess this is how painful it is, to be away from a family member.
The roars coming from outside jolts me out of my deep thought and I spring up to a sitting position. Paying rapt attention to where the sound is coming from. For the next few seconds, I hear nothing, and I begin to think that it was just me hallucinating, but then, the sound came again, this time around, it come with the sound of metals clanking and people screaming. At this point, I knew that something is wrong out there, and I’m becoming restless.
Fear grips me as I spring up to my feet. Striding to the door, I pull it open without a second thought and by the time I get outside, the man that was standing there earlier is nowhere to be found, so I realize that something is up. I gulp down the lump in my throat, exiting the room and dragging my feet along the somewhat dark hallway. I take a slow and steady step, paying attention to the sound that didn’t stop. I can’t help but think that the place must be under an attack or something of such, judging from the screams and the sound of clanking metals.
“Cassie, you have to go back! Don’t go any farther!” My subconscious mind keeps scolding me, but I ignore it, my curiosity has already taken over me and I can’t bring myself to go back, I have to find out what is happening out there.
Stepping out of the hallway into the veranda, I freeze on the spot at the sight I behold. Blood is flowing everywhere with corpses littering the floor, people are fighting with swords and killing each other, children are lying lifeless on the ground, cries of the injured people echo within the walls of the castle, horses are lying dead on the ground and people are covered in blood. I open my mouth to scream, but no sound comes out as my lips only tremble and shut by themselves, I can’t believe my eyes, this is one of the bloody scenes I watch in movie series, and it always freaks me out, how come it’s happening before my very eyes?
I hobble farther with my trembling legs. Even if I want to go back, my curiosity keeps pushing me to go close and see things for myself.
“Help! Help me!” The cries of children fill the air, they are dying and no one cares to save them. Just when I am about to climb down the stairs that lead to where the main fight is ongoing, something pulls my attention, it is the cry of a baby. I stop abruptly and following the cry with my gaze, I spot a young man, about to stab a newborn baby.
“Don’t!” I scream and the person snaps his head to look at me. I freeze on the spot at the sight I behold, it’s alpha Damien. Don’t tell me he was going to kill that baby?
“You? How dare you?” He drops the baby and starts taking threatening steps toward me, and I step back in fear. I’ve always known him to be fierce and dangerous, but the alpha Damien I’m seeing now is different from the one I knew. This one looks like a devil.
“Don’t come near me,” His image slowly fades away and I feel my whole body cold…
