Cut ties with Esteban Zaragosa.
Not that the idea didn’t cross Dulcina Calvo’s mind, but after the thought crossed her mind, she couldn’t be bothered to make the decision.
It is clear that she has not spent as much time with Esteban Zaragosa as with Lázaro Morejón, but for some reason she is inexplicably dependent on him.
Perhaps it was because Esteban Zaragosa gave her so much security when she was with him, so much that once that security was withdrawn, she felt really lonely, even bottomless.
Mother Dulcina saw that her daughter was silent and looked at her with reddened eyes, “Dulcina, that man has a family, a wife, he has returned to his life, but what about you, are you going to continue living in a world with him?”
“Mom, can you… can you give me a little more time now that I’m…”
“Dulcina Calvo! If you can’t make up your mind to cut ties with that bastard, cut ties with me as mother and daughter!”
Mother Dulcina, seeing her hesitant and apparently still attached to the bastard, made a harsh statement in the hope that he would hurry up, but Dulcina Calvo’s face, however, paled visibly and the blood faded.
Mother Dulcina had never been so hard on Dulcina Calvo, nor had she ever said such harsh words to her. Papa Dulcina was even sideways shocked and said to her with a frown, “What are you talking about, the girl didn’t just make a mistake, it’s good to know and correct it, what do you mean break the relationship, blood ties just broke?”
“Knowing your mistakes and being able to change? Look at her, does she look like she can change? I think she’s already lost her mind with that man.”
Dulcina Calvo didn’t hear the rest of the story, she was alone in her room and didn’t go out much for two days and didn’t eat much.
Papa Dulcina was a little worried: “The girl can’t stand it if she goes on like this, can she? We should soften up a bit, and you shouldn’t be so forceful in your attitude.”
Mother Dulcina thought it was a silent protest and grimaced, “Go on a hunger strike, she’ll starve to death if she keeps thinking about that bastard.”
“You see what you’re saying.”
As we were talking, Dulcina Calvo suddenly came out of the bedroom, her face white, her lips dry and her voice a little muffled because she hadn’t spoken in a long time.
“Mom and Dad, I figured it out.”
Papa Dulcina and Mother Dulcina were stunned, a light shone in their eyes, “What have you discovered?”.
“I will do as you say and I will never again associate with Esteban Zaragosa. I will not go back to him.”
Mother Dulcina was half-hearted: “Really? You’re not lying to Mom?
Dulcina Calvo nods firmly.
She and Esteban Zaragosa, there will be no future.
Mother Dulcina breathed a sigh of relief and, as she went to serve Dulcina Calvo’s meal, she murmured, “It’s good to be able to think things over. Let’s not talk about the past, we’ve been fooled once, let’s remember more from now on.”
At the table, halfway through the meal, Dulcina Calvo suddenly spoke up and said, “Mom and Dad, I want to go back to work in La Ciudad Santa in a couple of days. ”
Mother Dulcina froze, a little offended and suspicious of what she had just said.
“Do you really want to go back to work in The Holy City, or do you want to go with that bastard?”
“Mom, I’m really not going back to him.”
Papa Dulcina was quite sensible: “Don’t talk too much, the girl has given you her word. Besides, Dulcina is getting older and it’s good for a girl to see more of the world.”
Mother Dulcina flipped her bowl of rice with the chopsticks and said incredulously, “Hm, see the world, she’s gone to see the world and she’s been swindled.”
“Dulcina, don’t listen to your mother, go back to work in the city and daddy supports you.”
Mother Dulcina rolled her eyes at Papa Dulcina, “If he says he’s going back to work in the city, he’s going back to work in the city, do you think he has any work left?”
Mother Dulcina was right, Dulcina Calvo had been locked in her room for the past two days, but she had not been sad, she had thrown out quite a few resumes, many of them cross-cutting, or in some field related to medicine or pharmacy.
“Mom, I’ve thrown out a bunch of resumes, I’m going back for interviews, I should find a job soon.”
Mother Dulcina saw that he really intended to go back to work, remembered that the bastard was also a doctor and warned him, “Don’t go back to the same hospital as that bastard, the pay may be less, your father and I can still support you.”
Dulcina Calvo’s eyes filled with tears as she heard her mother’s words, and she only emitted a low “mmm”, knowing that she loved her and that was why she was so hard on her in this matter.
Papa Dulcina gave a piece of lean meat to Dulcina Calvo: “Here, eat some more meat, you’ve been hungry and thin for two days, Papa believes in you and you’ll soon find a good job”.

After a couple of days, Dulcina Calvo returned to La Ciudad Santa because hospitals and companies kept calling her for interviews.
In the last few days, he had interviewed with many companies without much success, but was told to go back and wait for a letter, but there was little hope.
That day, Estrella Berrocal knew she was back and sent two boxes of cherries with her driver.
The driver, Facundo Montes, went to Dulcina Calvo’s house with Estrella Berrocal, carrying two boxes of cherries.
“Facundo, you go back first, I’ll stay at Dulcina’s for a while.”
“Ok Young hostess, call me when you want to go home and I’ll come pick you up.”
When Facundo Montes had left, Dulcina Calvo said enviously, “Young hostess, what a good time you had, how many cherries, it must be a pleasure to eat them.”
Normally, you can’t even afford to buy cherries because one G of cherries is several dozen, and one G of cherries is not enough to fill your teeth.
Estrella Berrocal looked at her blankly, “Paulita and I have eaten so many cherries lately that we have thrown up, but Mr. Adam bought so many that he couldn’t bear to waste them and gave them away to many people.”
“Gee, Mr. Adam is really in love with you!”
Estrella Berrocal shot him a glance and couldn’t resist asking, “Have you found work in La Ciudad Santa?”
“No, there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of people at the few hospitals I’ve interviewed recently.”
“Nowadays, a lot of good hospitals have designated places, it’s hard to get in if you go in alone like that. If you don’t mind, someday I’ll ask Adam if he has any friends at the hospital to see if he can get in through a back door or something…”
“That’s not very nice.”
Dulcina Calvo is not a noble person, she simply does not know Adán Rouco very well and, besides, Adán Rouco is a good friend of the man.
“I’m sure I’ll respect that if you don’t want me to, but remember to let me know if you have any difficulties, I may not always be able to help, but at least I can always help you think of something.”
Estrella Berrocal knows all too well how painful homelessness can be. Then, when she was desperate, it was as if no one in the world was willing to lend her a hand. When she was pregnant, that was a shadow for her at the time.
“Estrella, you’re so sweet.” Dulcina Calvo leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed.
Estrella Berrocal was silent for a few seconds and asked shyly, “So you and Dr. Esteban, is it true that you intend to … leave it at that?”
“He is married and has a wife, what else can I do, Mrs. Esteban even came to my house to warn me to stop bothering her husband in the future. How could I have lived through such a failure.”
“Dulcina, whatever decision you make, I support you.”
She did not want to take the moral high ground to judge the matter; Dulcina was her good friend and who was going to have an opinion on relationships.
