“What? Why?” Nina asked in a flabbergasted tone.
“You know why! Think about it, you will get the answer very soon”, Ira said, with a knowing laugh.
“Oh, yes. He has to! He has no option! You are pure evil, Ira”, Nina replied and burst into laughter herself.
“It wasn’t really me. All thanks to our dear leader, he has to come back to me every single time!” Ira spoke with an arrogant smirk on her beautiful face.
……….
Giselle’s POV:
There was a small knock on my door. Thinking it was one of the triplets, I opened the door in excitement but my face fell to see my mother standing in front of me.
“What is it now?” I asked in a plain tone while getting inside the room again.
“Are you still angry with me?” Vera asked. I could hear the worry in her voice.
“Nope. I am just tired”, I lied.
It wasn’t a complete lie though. I had so many o*gams in such a small amount of time, it was hella tiring!
“I heard that you are moving to our lake house with triplets for this week. It is your first vacation with them..” Vera started speaking but I cut her off,
“So, are you here to give me instructions now?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.
She was never there for me my whole life and now she is playing the protective mother?
“No, no! I am just here to give you this”. Vera handed me a sealed envelope.
“What is it?” I asked confusedly.
“Call it a good luck charm. I believe people should get to enjoy their starting phase of life before they decide to take responsibility”, Vera replied with a weird smile.
I really don’t get how this woman’s brain works.
“What are you saying? I don’t understand!” I said while refusing the envelope, but Vera held my hand.
“You will. Very soon. Open it once I am gone and think about it”, Vera replied, that weird smile was still on her face.
“What? What is inside it? Why are you…” I had so many questions to ask her but then the door of my room opened with a loud thud and Kevin walked in again.
“Oh, I forgot to give you..” Kevin stopped speaking instantly when he saw Vera in my room.
“Oh, Vera. I will come back later then”, Kevin replied apologetically.
He turned around and was moving out of my room, when Vera held his arm to stop him.
“No, you guys should talk. I will come back later”, Vera replied with a small smile.
Vera turned towards me with the same weird smile and added, “Think about it, carefully. You might agree with me.”
She looked at the envelope for more than a normal span of time and even Kevin saw her gaze at the envelope in my hand.
She turned around and began to leave my room.
Curious, Kevin stood next to me and asked, “What is in there?”
“I don’t know. She gave it to me just now”, I replied honestly.
“Open it then” Kevin said excitedly.
I nodded and opened the envelope just to see a strip of medicine on it.
“What is this?” I asked confusedly.
“Birth control pills” Kevin said, and his eyes widened in shock.
To my surprise, he was more knowledgeable than me.
Vera turned towards us while she was at the door. She winked at me and left.
Kevin coughed, cleared his throat and added awkwardly, “Wow, it was really thoughtful.”
My cheeks began to burn. I saw a small pink blush on Kevin’s cheek also.
I thanked God that Stefan was not here otherwise he would have teased me to death.
“Make good use of it” Saying that, Kevin stormed out of the room.
Why does she always have to do something like this to me? I cursed her for putting me in such an embarrassing situation.
Anyways, deep inside, I knew she was right for the first time. I need to enjoy my life first before taking a step towards responsibility.
Thinking about that, I read the instructions and ate the pill.
“Like something’s actually going to happen between us”, I said with an eye roll, and went to bed.
But deep inside, I was really hoping for something to happen.
…………….
Next morning,
I got up a little earlier than normal to doll up myself for the triplets.
I took a warm shower to soothe my aching body and changed into a beige colored floral jumpsuit. I kept my hair open, wore diamond studs to complete my look.
When I was getting ready in my walk-in closet, I heard a noise coming from my bedroom. I moved towards the bedroom to see my mother holding a suitcase.
“What are you doing here again?” I asked confusedly.
“Making sure you have a fun trip” She slid the suitcase towards me while she glanced at the pill on my dressing table.
“Oh, so you had it. Don’t forget to complete the course”. She winked at me with that naughty smile again.
“Why are you doing all this?” I asked in an emotional tone.
“Because I am your mother. I know you don’t trust me and you feel like I am your enemy, but believe me, I love you. I gave you birth and..” Vera began to speak in a sincere tone, but I cut her off immediately.
“And left me”, I completed her statement.
“Giselle, I wanted to live my life too”. Vera looked at me helplessly.
“And you did. So, stop interrupting me every now and then. Don’t try to be the mother you are not! You took care of that man’s kids while leaving your responsibility on my dad’s shoulder! I respect Alpha Riley. He might be my father-in-law but he can never be my father!” I spoke the venomous words, knowing how it would affect Vera, but I didn’t care.
I was more hurt than her. My whole life I have seen people spending time with their mother. I heard them bragging about their mothers being their best friend. But thank God, my father was always there for me. I can’t accept a man to be my father even if he is an Alpha!
“Did you accept Melanie as your mother then?” She asked, hurt completely evident on her face.
“Nope, I can’t, but honestly, she didn’t disturb me. Unlike you, she didn’t try to be something she is not. My father is enough for me. He gave me the love of a father and a mother too”, I replied honestly, and tears began to fall on my cheeks.
“Giselle… I…” Vera tried to speak but there was another interruption like last night.
Suddenly, the door of my room opened and an excited Stefan walked in.
“Are you ready?” Stefan said excitedly, but then his eyes fell on Vera.
“Oh, sorry, Vera. I didn’t know you were here”, he replied with an awkward smile.
“No worries, Stef. I just came to meet her. You must be ready to leave”, Vera replied with a small smile.
While he was preoccupied with Vera, I instantly wiped my tears dry and plastered a smile on my face.
“Yes, we are. We were just waiting for Giselle. I will wait for you outside”, Stefan said with a sweet smile. He grabbed the bag Vera brought and left.
“Thank you for packing my stuff, but please don’t do stuff like this for me in the near future” I said in a low voice before following Stefan outside the room.
“Got it” Vera replied with a curt nod.
After breakfast, we left for the lake house. It was three hours’ distance from the pack house. As always, Kevin was driving, Riven was sitting in the passenger’s seat and, Stefan and I were sitting in the back.
Nobody spoke a word, until the eldest, Kevin, decided to break the uncomfortable silence.
“Giselle, are you okay?” Kevin asked in a concerned tone.
“Yeah, I am fine” I replied with a minute smile.
“You look tensed” was Riven’s plain statement.
I was shocked that he managed to notice that much. I have accepted the fact that he had fewer emotions than a normal werewolf.
“When I came to pick up your bags, you were having a conversation with your mother. Did you fight with Vera?” Stefan asked in a muddled tone.
“Nope. Of course not. She was just giving me some instructions”. I lied, plastering a fake smile on my face.
“Just like last night?”
