I didn’t say anything back. I kept my eyes locked on my stomach as my hands rubbed small circles on the forming bump.
My baby. Ours…
I frowned. A tense silence fell again. Benlyam sat back down in his seat and then the door opened.
Reseda and a tall, dark-skinned woman with grey hair came in, wheeling some machine. She gave a big warm smile at me as she hooked up the machine to a wall. Once she did that, she turned to me.
“Nice to meet you, honey,” her voice was deeper and it felt so nice to listen to. “I’m Eva, I’m just gonna ask you a few questions before we start, but you can lie down in the meantime.” She turned back to her machine and started to do things.
“Have you used the restroom recently?” she asked looking back at me, I shook my head in denial. “Okay, and have you had plenty of water?”
“Yes, she’s good,” Reseda chimed in.
“Alright!” she turned back to me, “do you have underwear on?”
I felt my face get red at her question. I didn’t know, I didn’t check.
“Yes,” Reseda answered for me.
“Alright, it’s just for your modesty. It doesn’t matter,” Eva turned towards me with gel in her hand, “I’m going to lift up your gown, okay, honey? Do you mind if Alpha is in?”
I saw Benlyam snarl at her and she bowed her head. We both understood why, and he agreed with her, he just worried about me saying for him to leave, and he wouldn’t be able to see his kid.
I didn’t care if he was here. Even if I was mad at him, it was still his kid just as much as it was mine. So, I shrugged my shoulders.
“Alright, I’m going to do your gown now, okay?”
Even though I nodded, the moment she neared my stomach I flinched and tried to swat her hand away. She pulled back and assured me she wouldn’t hurt me, Benlyam cocked his head at the movement I did. It bothered him.
“S-sorry…” I whispered, my voice straining.
“Oh!” Reseda reached in her pocket and pulled out a small circle wrapped in yellow paper. She unwrapped it and put it at my mouth, “here, it’s for your vocal cords. It’s a honey and lemon drop. Try not to whisper or shout.”
Eva lifted up my gown, right below my breasts.
“This is a water-based gel. It’ll be chilly,” she warned as she spread it on my belly. I flinched and Benlyam stood from his seat. He crossed his arms over his chest as he observed everything. He was making sure I was okay…
Eva pulled out a small wand, “This is a transducer, I’ll be placing this on you, honey, okay?” I nodded and when she lightly put it on the gel, my hand twitched. It wanted to move everything away from my baby.
She started to move it as some static images appeared on the screen. Benlyam kept looking from my stomach to the screen, monitoring everything. Eva had me move a little bit, even hold my breath sometimes, then the screen showed an image.
“There you are! Triplets!”
My eyes watered as I stared at three circles on the screen. I opened my mouth, a smile automatically forming.
That’s-
That’s…
Triplets…
A happy, little laugh escaped my lips. Tears threatened to spill. Babies. My heart throbbed. I glanced over at Benlyam. He was staring at the screen in absolute adoration. His eyes glassy and he was biting his lip to contain a smile.
“You’ll be able to learn the gender in about ten weeks,” Eva informed.
One circle was smaller than the other two. I furrowed my brows.
“Why-” my voice cracked and I cleared my pained throat, “w-why is t-that one s-smaller?”
Eva glanced at the screen then back at me. “Don’t worry about that- it’s normal! I promise! It’s just because of the placenta and placement in the womb!” she reassured and I looked back at the screen. Benlyam’s smile dropped for a second but he picked it back up.
Oh my, I love them so much.
I can’t wait to hold them.
Babies. Children…
“Can I have a sonogram of that?” Benlyam asked as he glanced down at me. I started to feel tired.
“Of course, Alpha! I could get a clearer picture, but we won’t do a transvaginal ultrasound. You understand,” Eva said and Benlyam nodded as he bit his lip.
Eva took away the transducer and wiped off the gel. She said her goodbyes and Reseda helped me out of the bed and took me into the bathroom to relieve myself and freshen up.
I was helped back into bed and she left, leaving a pack of the honey-lemon drops with Benlyam. I felt extremely tired as I laid down and Reseda left.
I looked over at Benlyam as he sat down and glared at him. I didn’t want him with me. He looked at me and frowned, he blinked a few times, his eyes were still glossy, and tilted his head.
“Violet, I didn’t hurt you. Stop glaring at me,” he mumbled sternly as he rubbed his temple.
“T-that’s-” Benlyam cut me off by shushing me.
“Stop talking, honey. You’re gonna hurt your vocal cords more,” he grabbed one of the drops and unfolded it and neared me. I frowned at him as he tried to put it in my mouth.
I moved my head. As tired as I was, I didn’t want him trying to help me after what he did.
“Violet,” he sternly yet softly spoke, “open your mouth. You’re hurting yourself for no reason. Remember, we have things to care for,” he glanced down at my hands that rested on my bump.
My heart loved that he said ‘we’, but my mind was angry. But he was right, again. I needed to be better at this, I need to be more vigilant with my babies. I opened my lips and he carefully put the drop in.
Wait.
Things?
