Chapter 38- Intervention

My eyes felt heavy when they cracked open and were immediately met with white. I had to open and close them a few times till they were adjusted, and then I saw my surroundings. I was in a moon-white room.
I looked down and saw I was in a milky colored bed, wearing a cream short-sleeved blouse, I pulled down the blanket slightly to see I was also wearing pants to match. My eyes caught sight of my wrist and I almost choked. They were clear. No signs of marks, discoloration, or anything.
I furrowed my brows and slowly sat up in the bed that matched the space.
… Where am I?…
“All in due time, child,” a melodic voice rang out.
Fear exploded in my chest and I swiveled my head around to look from the source. I spotted a woman standing by a chair, looking at me.
She had long, wavy blonde-silver hair and translucent white skin. A long flowing light, muted yellow dress was on her body, a celestial complexion that seemed to match the climate of the room.
“Well, good morning, dear one,” she smiled, her white teeth almost glowing.
My throat slightly stung, and I felt this urge to answer back to her, possibly because of the energy radiating off of her.
“Good morning…” Surprisingly my voice came out smooth and clear.
… Where was my stutter?…
The woman laughed and motioned her hand for me to come to her. I carefully got out of bed and walked to her. Her smile brightened.
“Who are you?” I asked her, very confused about where I was and what exactly was happening.
She gave another light smile, “I’m sure you’ll come to realize.”
I raised my eyebrows.
… No, I’m not smart…
She gave a light chuckle like she heard my thoughts and then responded. “Violet, you beat yourself up.”
I blinked. Huh?
“Well, where am I?” I asked. A part of me loved how I was able to speak without the stutter, would this be how I would’ve talked without Chris?
“The inbetween,” she stated.
I got confused again, the inbetween? What was that, in between what?
She tilted her head to the side, “you do remember what you did right?” she asked. When I didn’t answer, my mind blanked, she answered, in a way.
She neared me and brought a hand up to my forehead. The moment her cold hand touched me, I was thrown into a room. I looked around and found a bathtub.
The water was slowly being stained by red liquid. The source, a girl. I only saw her scarred backside, her long dark hair down her back as she worked with her hands.
A sob filled the room and I walked to her to see what was happening. The moment I saw her face I felt like puking. The familiar face was mine. I looked at her closer, she ran a knife down her scrawny wrist, drawing blood. Her body- my body- was shaking and the knife fell, clattering onto the ground. A frown made its way to my face when she sunk underwater, and suddenly I was pulled out.
I was committing suicide! Yes, I remember…
I opened my eyes to be met with the celestial woman. My mouth opened slightly, confused, and slightly angry. The inbetween- like in between life and death? I just wanted to die. I didn’t need this.
“Years of abuse only to end your life because of your mate…” the woman spoke. “I didn’t put you through all of that to crumble due to Derek.” That infuriated me.
What the actual- ‘I didn’t put you through all of that.’
“What?” I asked, slightly snippy, but I had the right. “You’re the reason Chris beat me all those years?!” I couldn’t help my tone rising.
She raised her hand, “Child, please, you must be patient.”
“Patient? You let me get raped and whipped to the floor! And- and you want to question why I killed myself?” My fists were balled at my sides, and my breathing was fast.
“Violet, my dear, let’s not get violent,” she smiled again, why is she so happy? “Do you know who I am? Have you figured it out?”
I shook my head ‘no’, still angry. “I don’t care! Why would you do that? How did you even do that?” I snapped at her. I wanted to cry out of frustration, but there were no tears.
“Patience,” she mused, and walked to the chair and motioned for me to sit down. My obedience kicked in and I sat in the chair.
“Are you going to explain?” I couldn’t help but ask.
She gave a melodic chuckle, “Yes my child, all in due time, I promise.”
“You’re not my mother.”
She chuckled again, “Well, not directly. But- besides the point, let’s start.” she smiled. “You’re physically in a coma but mentally, you’re in the inbetween. Also known as liminality. Mercury could better explain this- but he is busy.”
I felt stupid, who was Mercury? Like the planet? Freddie Mercury?
“But, I wanted to be here when you woke up. Mentally of course. You’ll have to let me know how hypnagogia is. Anyways- you’re stuck here because as I said, I didn’t watch the past twelve years of your life, just for you to kill yourself.” she slightly frowned.
“Well, obviously it didn’t work,” I mumbled.
Her frown deepened. “Child, don’t say that!” she scolded, “as for the last twelve years. I did see everything that Christopher did to you, and I was going to intervene because it pained me to see that but, the Moirai told me ‘no’.”
I raised an eyebrow, “The Moirai?” I asked.
“The Fates, they were surprised that I wanted to intervene in the first place because I practically crafted your mate, and I knew that he was out there to get you, but it was difficult to wait and watch.”
“So, are you a God?”
She laughed lightly, “Goddess. But, I agreed with them and waited until Derek got there, he took a little longer than I wanted, by three years. I was so very tempted to step in, but I knew the soulmates would find each other- despite Christopher hiding you and masking your scent. I even talked to Jupiter about it-”
My head went to the side as the gears started to turn, her celestial feel, her moon-like attire, her knowledge of Dereks and mine bond, the title of Goddess.
“Are you the Moon Goddess?” I blurted out. I expected her to get angry that I cut her off, but she didn’t, she smiled.
“Yes, my dear. I told you you’d figure it out!” she beamed. “Also known as Selene, but Mood Goddess is fine.”
