Chapter 81 The inheritance
MIDNIGHT PACK: FINLAY’S HOME
Tommy paced the room back and forth with his hands trembling. He wished Linda was near him cause he would have found comfort in her presence but nothing seem right at the moment as it felt like his heart would flip out of his chest.
Jovy’s reaction at the end of the whole discussion made him really scared and bothered. The thought of Jovy bailing out on him and having the brothers on his neck made him shiver. To clear his doubt, he had asked one of his men to follow Jovy and ensure she never leaves Alice’s house until she is heading back home the next day.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Tommy pulled at his tie feeling uncomfortable. He felt the urge to call Linda so bad at the same time he didn’t want to expose himself with Ava showing up when he least expects. There was the need for someone to assure him that it would all be good. Tommy had made plans to leave as soon as he can the moment he hands Jovy over the next day. Walking stealthily towards the door, he checked the hallway to be sure no one was coming. It was late already, but Tommy knew Linda would still be awake probably also awaiting his call. Just as he thought, she picked on the first ring.
‘Hey.’ Linda’s voice seeped into the receiver softly as she sounded eager. ‘How did it go?’
Tommy pulled at his hair forcefully almost ripping half of it off. ‘It went well I guess.’
There was a long pause. ‘Why do you sound uncertain then?’ Linda asked.
“I really don’t know Linda. Jovy acted really strange but she is under surveillance. I want you to get yourself and the kids ready by tomorrow. We need to move from this shit hole.’ He said in a low tone.
‘That’s okay. I would talk to you tomorrow.’ Linda disconnected the call.
Tommy let out a long breath as he slumped into the bed. He tried so hard to find some sleep, but his eyes burned at every attempt he made to shutting it close. Ava entered the room glancing at her husband as she wondered what was up with him. One would have thought he would be in a celebrating mood. Instead, Tommy looked gloomy and when he had stormed out of the board room it seem like he was clueless.
The thought of Jovy being out of the picture made Ava’s mind to switch into overdrive. All that mattered to her was how herself and Amelia would benefit from the assets that belonged to Jovy.
“Why are you acting all sad, like you feel guilty of something.” Ava said, undressing herself as she sat in front of the mirror to take off the jewelries she had on.
Tommy lifted himself sluggishly from the bed, peering at her with a blank look on his face. “Do you not feel any remorse?”
She shrugged. “Why would I?”
“Didn’t you for once think if she were your daughter-”
Ava turned around to look him in the face. “Why would you bring my daughter into the conversation?”
Not batting an eyelash, Tommy stared with a blank look on his face. “I never mentioned Amelia. I was just saying though.” He stood up to head towards the bathroom.
Ava bit her lips hard, trying to find the right word to retort back at him but nothing came to her.
“How do you intend to go about the assets now?” She asked as he returned to the room after changing his work attire.
“What assets?”
Ava scoffed as she held up his gaze. “Don’t forget I have about a two third right to them.”
“And why would that be?” Tommy inquired with a raised brow.
Ava laughed cynically. She knew this sort of day would come when Tommy would get all greedy and insist on owning all of the inheritance. The day Elena had died, Ava had been there and had seen it all happen. Even though it was a mistake, it had been her weapon over the years to get whatever she wanted from him and that includes giving her a part of the inheritance.
“Have you forgotten so soon?” She asked with a devious smirk on her face.
Jovy glared at her knowing what she meant clearly, one of the reasons he needed to stay as far as he can away from Midnight pack was because of the too many secrets of his that is in the wrongest of hands. The day Elena had died, Ava had walked in on them having a scuffle and she had seen him push her so hard till she hit her head and died. She had promised to keep the secret if Tommy married her, but he had disagreed and told her he has no interest in having anything to do with her. In the end he had agreed to give her a two third of the assets. Fate played a trick on him and Tommy ended up marrying Ava.
Thinking she would have let go of the thought, Tommy tried being the perfect husband and father to Ava’s daughter. Hearing her claim her share surprised Tommy a bit, even though he knew it was one of the reasons he had involved her in finding a way to get rid of Jovy.
Tommy cleared his throat as he got into the bed. “I do remember clearly I haven’t forgotten.” He replied reluctantly.
“I would be preparing a contract with my lawyer where you would be handing the asset over.” Ava flicked her tongue.
Tommy stared in awe with his mouth agape. “Why so soon? Jovy hasn’t been married off yet”
“You won’t tell me what to do, not with Elena’s step brothers lurking around. I need what belongs to me before it becomes all messy.”
“That won’t be possible…there are procedures.” Tommy balled his fist in anger under the duvet, wishing there was a way to get rid of Ava too without necessarily getting his hands dirty.
Ava chuckled dryly. “Don’t tell me about some dumb procedures when what you have to do doesn’t even take much time.”
“I will get you your share when the time is right. You do know you carrying out your threat of exposing me would do not just me but yourself no good.” Tommy sneered. “Don’t try to play smart and think you can bully me into resolve.”
Ava gritted her teeth as she glared viciously at him. “What the hell are you planning with that bitch of yours?”
Tommy raised a tentative brow. “What bitch?!”
Ava stood up with rage clearly written on her face. “Linda!” She announced expecting to get a reaction from him. But when he didn’t react still she continued. “How did you even think you would be able to keep it secret for so long?”
Tommy stared at her feeling unbothered, despite his insides boiling up. He hoped Ava knows nothing about his two kids. He could accept his affair with Linda getting exposed but not the identity of his innocent children being disclosed.
“Where did you hear such bullshit from?” He tried to act oblivious.
Ava let out a scoff. “Elena told me she had caught you both before.”
Now it was Tommy’s time to laugh. “I can’t believe you hung on to that all these years and never thought to confront me.”
Tommy stood up from the bed. He felt the urge to get himself drunk, shift and run through the woods. He headed towards the door but got halted by Ava.
“Don’t mess with me Tommy. I would make you regret it if you ever try to cross me out!” She threatened.
Her voice sounded like a whining child to Tommy. He ignored her and walked out the door. Ava clenched her fist in annoyance.
