Chapter 40 Memories of the past
MIDNIGHT PACK
Tommy sat rigidly with his hands rubbing at his jaw slowly. All he wanted was to be anywhere except this godforsaken room. Rumors had been flying out that they would come around soon, but he had turned a deaf ear to it. He should have avoided this trouble from the very beginning, but he was too self conceited to think of the end result.
The one person he despised seeing or hearing his voice, Carlton spoke first. “You shouldn’t just sit there like this doesn’t matter, Tommy. For your own good you need to say something.”
Tommy kissed his teeth as he resisted the urge to glare. The problem had erupted from years back and his greediness and selfishness had entangled him in the present mess he was in.
Elena had been the most prettiest she wolf he had ever seen in his whole life. The very day he set his eyes on her during the installation of Midnight Pack Alpha, he had been smitten by her and day after day only the thoughts of her came to his mind. But Elena was a bit adamant and wasn’t keen on being with him. It was almost like she had someone else in mind that she would love to be with.
Being the owner of a startup company, Tommy wasn’t doing so bad himself. Elena’s father had been one of the richest men in the pack and being his only child, all of his wealth had been left to her. Tommy’s first intention was to be her man and love her but then life happened and he needed to get himself in order.
The same group of people that had turned his mind twenty years ago were the same people sitting right in front of him. Brandon, Carlton and Herald were Elena’s step siblings. Her father had fallen in love at the late years of his life with a woman who had three grown up children already. Jacob who was Elena’s father didn’t mind and took care of them like they were his children. And the three of them had taken a particular liking to Elena cause she saw them like her very own blood brothers.
Unfortunately, the family love didn’t live up for too long as Jacob died and it didn’t take long before Angelina the wife followed suit. That was where the devil had decided to come visit. Jacob had left every of his property to his daughter and gave some number amount of cash to his stepsons but greed, selfishness and anger took a better part of them.
At that time Elena was involved in a premarital affair with a married man whom was never divulged to Tommy. When her step brothers had come to Tommy, he didn’t have any other option but to give in to their offer. Everyone at the pack knew how invested he was in Elena and how much he loves her. However, she wasn’t giving off the same energy which made the rumors seem really concrete. Practically, every pack lady wanted Tommy Finlay for themselves but only Elena was an exception.
Tommy’s business was detailing and he needed enough cash to start up in a big way. When the three brothers had come to him, the offer they made was to marry Elena. How they were able to convince her, he had no idea cause they said she would get married to him but only on the condition that he would share a huge part of the inheritance with them. Even though Jacob had given off his inheritance to his daughter, he had said it would be only accessible if and when she gets married.
Tommy had too many things to lose and didn’t bother to think twice. He took the offer and Elena was his wife within a twinkle of an eye and to cap it all his company began to grow exceptionally in weeks. Things were going fine and he didn’t think it through too much until three months after the wedding. Tommy discovered that he had married Elena while she was carrying someone else’s child but to his own relief, she lost the baby.
Not worrying about her past atrocities, Tommy played his part well as a husband and as a source of funds for her brothers. As much as he had married Elena out of pity and based on a condition, he still loved her endlessly and it hurt him really bad when he discovered again she was still trying to get involved with the same man that had rejected her. At that time, she was with their first child Jovy.
Tommy loved Jovy so much to a point that he would lay down his life for her. But to his dismay, he discovered when she was four years that he wasn’t her father. His world came tumbling down at the revelation. He would have never found out if she hadn’t been whispering some love utterances into the phone she was on when he walked into the house. He couldn’t control his anger and had unintentionally beaten Elena to death. Luckily for him, the brothers came to his rescue and claimed her death was natural. It was stated that Elena slipped and fell hitting her head hard on the tiled floor in the bathroom.
The guilt had ridden him hard for years and the presence of the brothers only made matters worse for him. To make matters worse, Elena had made a will with her lawyer to hand over all of the properties to Jovy as soon as she turns eighteen. He had been harboring a kind of hatred towards Jovy due to her mother’s infidelity and it only grew worse when he realized all he had worked for over the years would be taken away from him. That’s one of the reasons he decided to subdue her.
It was becoming a thing of the past for him, until the arrival of the men sitting in front of him. Whenever they show up, they wanted something that he would have to bleed through his nose to afford.
“She is eighteen now.” Herald interrupted his train of thoughts.
Tommy rolled his eyes as he sat straight up. “She has no idea what is going on.”
“She might find out soon with the way you are treating her.” Carlton snickered.
Tommy tilted his head towards him while squinting his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
Brandon who had been quiet all the while snorted. “Spare me that pretense, Tommy! My daughter is a friend to Amelia, your step daughter and she spills all of the tea non stop. Your maltreatment of the girl has become really exorbitant. And she has been leaving home lately.”
“Fuck!” Tommy cussed.
“Shouldn’t you at least keep your hatred at bay?” Herald rebuked.
“She reminds me too much of Elena. I can’t stand her!” Tommy spat in distaste.
“Then I guess we are all thinking the same way.” Carlton interjected.
“It’s not like it’s her fault.” Brandon defended.
“Whichever way it is she is already an obstacle.” Herald added.
They all fell quiet for a while with each of them brooding on what to do. Tommy wished he could get rid of everyone of them and Jovy herself. He was tired of having his life being tied to all of them. If he could has his wish granted. he would sell off all of the assets and go far away to settle and start a new life with Amelia and her mother. But he had invested too many of his lifetime into the growth of Finlay inc.
Taking a deep breath, Herald held a vicious stare with no mercy. “You should get rid of her, Tommy!”
