Chapter 27 Repaying a debt
MYSTIC SHADOWS PACK
Kyrian sat still as he stared blankly at the people sitting in front of him. Now, he understood for a fact why Logan can’t stand the presence of any of them. They act so stupid and it is really disgusting. He had proposed something to them for close to an hour and all they could do was stare at him like he had grown an horn. However, he wasn’t in a hurry today since he had all the time in the world to spare.
It’s either now or never because a timeline has to be created. No one in Mystic Shadows wants to give their child away to the Alpha no matter how useless the child might be. They would rather have her rotten away in the house than let a man whose heart had stopped working a long time ago have anything to do with their family.
If Kyrian would be sincere with himself, if he had a sister he would have taken her far away to avoid her getting any idea of falling in love with Logan. Kyrian cares so about Logan but siding like the fact that he has decided to feed on his past pains and hurts which has become a darkness that enveloped him.
Logan’s only on-doing is him falling in love with a woman which is beginning to seem impossible at this point. And also the main reason he has had to embark on this journey of no return.
Mystic Shadows Fortress in all of its glory has spread out its claws over small packs who looked up to them for resources. Since Logan got installed as the Alpha of Mystic Shadows Fortress, he had worked really hard over the years to ensure that it would be a model to the rest of the packs. He had been able to work up the economy reserve, making Mystic Shadows the most richest pack to exist. And in a bid to expand its shores, the Fortress had indulged in borrowing other smaller packs some money to boost up their own economy with an interest to pay back when necessary.
However, some packs never learn as they owe so much for a long time and still do not pay on time which was why they seem like the easiest target for Kyrian to carry out his plans. The Alphas of these packs are frivolous and have no cautious mind to managing resources and all they wanted to do was to be comfortable without trying to work for it. He had invited three of the most in-depth packs over.
The Alpha of Sundown Pack was the first to speak with his hair that seemed to be going into relegation. Kyrian watched in amusement as he bundled his fingers together and tried hard to not appear nervous.
“This seem like too much for my pack to do. Most of our girls are still very young.” It was almost like a whisper.
Kyrian admired his courage to speak first but he wasn’t in the mood to throw compliments around. “Are you trying to make a joke?!” Kyrian gritted, watching with a stern look and his voice sounding fierce.
The poor man almost fell off his seat. “That’s not how I meant to put it. I…I…am just trying to say that-”
“Hold it!” Kyrian cut him short. “What’s your name again?” He asked.
“Alpha Dolan.” He responded.
Kyrian pulled at his stubble as he leaned further into his seat. The others obviously have no plans to object even though they really want to judging by their stance. But they weren’t ready for what he has to tell them.
“Now, listen to me you all. Only the pack that would let one of his lady member go would get it debts written off. If not, be ready to pay back double of all that you have borrowed since the pay date is overdue.”
Alpha Gabriel of Giants pack jolted from his seat with a shocking look on his face. Kyrian could remember the name because Alpha Gabriel was always coming around for money and had an excuse as to why they needed to borrow over and over again. And Logan had always indulged him, knowing how profitable it would eventually be for him.
Kyrian snorted at the absurd name of the pack and it suits them really less. The name isn’t befitting for a pack with no actual direction.
“Why would we have to pay double? That’s so unfair…and it wasn’t in the agreement.” Alpha Gabriel argued with his voice sounding more like a squeak.
Rumor had it that he couldn’t birth children, and since he wouldn’t be leaving the position for anyone who is his blood, he decided to become a nuisance, boozing and flirting around town. Alpha Gabriel is known for borrowing money from the wealthy Fortress with no investment in mind.
They had all dumbly signed the contracts that gave half of their packs to Logan when their debt has elapsed a certain date. Kyrian almost laughed out at the doubled debt in cash they thought he was talking about.
The giving out of their pack lands had already been in contracts since the day they decided to borrow large amounts of money without reading through the terms and conditions first. He had only brought it back as a means to quicken his needs. However, Kyrian had discussed it with Logan to write off the debt of whichever pack that provides the help they needed the most. It definitely was a fair deal.
Boredom was really getting to Kyrian and he was tired of being confined to the four walls of the office space.
“You think it’s unfair? How do you think Mystic Shadows Fortress survives with the crazy debt you all are owing?! You should be thankful Alpha Logan isn’t here right now to grace you with his presence. I doubt if he would be this considerate.” Moving his chair backwards, Kyrian stood up and adjusted his suit. “With that being said gentlemen, I shall take my leave now. Do well to think about it.” He walked away.
Kyrian turned towards them as he stood by the door. “You only have two weeks to get back to me. If not you shouldn’t be surprised to see what is coming for you.”
Kyrian breathed out heavily as he hurried to his car. He had almost thought he would lose his mind with the presence of the Alphas in his office. Kyrian hated that he was acting desperate in place of his friend. Logan had insisted he handled the finding him a Luna part since he was always insistent on him getting one. Using this sort of force and manipulative approach was more of Logan’s thing and not his.
Despite knowing none of them deserved the mercy, his heart went out to whomever would be offered as a sacrificial lamb. If the Moon Goddess loved them, she might help send another in place of the intended sacrifice to be offered.
Kyrian huffed as he got into his car. He rested his head into the driver’s seat with his left hand over his head. His phone jolted him back to life.
The caller was no other than Arlo and his heart almost ached at it. He was already stressed enough and didn’t want any more issues that includes responding to an annoying pest like his nephew.
‘Hey buddy.’ Kyrian mused into the receiver, after contemplating for what seem like a long minute.
‘Hi! My favorite uncle in the world!’ Arlo’s voice boomed from the other line, almost wearing his ear off.
‘What do you want, Arlo?’ Kyrian sounded like he would cry if his nephew had caused trouble somewhere again.
Arlo scoffed. ‘I feel so pained. You sound like you really don’t want to hear from me.’
‘Arlo, it is not-‘
Arlo cuts in sharply. ‘Anyways, I want to take you and the Alpha out on dinner. You in?’
Kyrian smiled to himself. If Arlo was inviting his two favorite uncles to dinner and intending to pay then there is something good coming and he definitely wouldn’t miss it.
‘Count me in buddy.’ Kyrian replied as he ignited his car.
