Chapter 21

Ava laid down on the bed, recalling the heated moment between her and Zane. Of course, she wanted to be valued and touched but not by someone who had killed her father and also thinking about Philip made her heart bleed the most. She was reminded of what Zane had insinuated about Philip, visiting his girlfriend and forgetting about her which she knew wasn’t true but she feared that it would be the reality.
Wild tears disembogued from her eyes and soaked the pillow slowly. The events that had happened to her in the past few days were disturbing and they shook her mind, such that she wasn’t able to think clearly again. She was scared to trust anybody including Philip. Before her father died, she was jealous of the girls who were admired by the males in her class but having experienced the torture and pain that a guy had exerted on her, she felt betrayed by her own feelings of jealousy. Maybe, if she had listened to her father and stayed away from her swaying feelings, she wouldn’t have fallen for Zane or allowed him to touch her.
She closed her eyes and sobbed, permitting the tears to flow out of her eyes. Just as she was about to dive into sleeping mode, the door opened and someone stepped in. Nobody needed to tell her that it was Philip, “I don’t want to see you,” She said.
He waited for some seconds before replying, “I’m sorry,”
“I don’t feel like talking, so please leave me alone,” she said, closing her eyes. It was as if a spell of silence befell on the both of them before she heard him walk out of the room. She wanted to scold herself for telling him to leave, but as soon as she positioned herself properly on the bed, she slept off.

Ava opened her eyes and looked around the room, hoping that she was still in the hospital and luckily, she was. She got up from the bed and walked to the window, seeing that it was still evening. Then, she heard someone open the door, “I don’t want to stay here any longer,” she said knowing that it was Philip who had come in.
“I…bought some clothes for you,” he said approaching her and she turned to look at what he was carrying. “You can wear this while I get the car ready,”
“Thanks,” she replied, taking the clothes from him with an indifferent expression. As soon as she took the clothes, he left the room without saying a word.
Slowly, she began to pull off her hospital dress to wear the new ones that Philip had bought for her. After sleeping a bit, she calmed down but didn’t change her mind on the fact that Zane was going to pay for what he had done to her. It was a surprise to her that Philip was still calm even when she was clearly in pain, which only proved that Zane was partly right about Philip. Afterall, she knew that Philip didn’t want to accept her father’s proposal to protect her until he saw her in danger. So it was possible that had spent time with another lady that night while she was choking to death from the fire. Resent filled her heart and convinced her of the reality that all men were the same.
When she finished dressing, she went out of the room and saw Philip waiting for her, “I prefer to walk on my own.” she said and he nodded silently. He was an impassive person, so she couldn’t tell if he was upset at what she said or if he actually wanted her to walk alone. As a girl who had been hurt physically and emotionally, she didn’t care about his thoughts so she walked away from him, advancing outside the hospital.
Their ride to the hotel was quiet and dull, even though she expected it to be that way. When she entered her hotel room, it was a whole different atmosphere entirely. She loved the peace and silence that harbored inside the room. It wasn’t enough to make her forget what she had passed through since her father died but she believed that a little moment of silence would help soothe the pain. Because of that, she was half grateful to Philip for considering her wellbeing when he booked two hotel rooms.
She laid down on the bed and drew the duvet up to her chest. The dark memories of her father’s death clouded her mind and it made her sober. She didn’t want to be reminded of how evil Zane was but it was worth the struggle if she could trust Philip one more time. Unfortunately, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. The suggestions Zane had given her about Philip kept popping up in her head. It was left for her to ask herself if Zane was trying to put her against Philip or whether she wanted to believe that Philip could actually leave her to meet another girl.
Just when she was about to fall asleep, she heard the door open and perceiving the body spray of the person, she could tell that it was Philip. Realizing that he was walking towards her, she closed her eyes pretending to be asleep. She tried not to move when she felt his gentle hands pushing some strands of her hair away from her face. She could tell that he was squatting because of the proximity between them, “I am so sorry,” he said, sounding sincere. “I promise to be there when you need me.” The air between them almost compelled her to open her eyes but she evaded that temptation. Next, she felt his warm lips on her forehead, before he finally withdrew.
When he left, she opened her eyes and sweltering tears welled out of it. It was either she trusted Philip with her life or she would lose it, holding an unjustified grudge against him. It wasn’t the best decision that she could make at that time but it was what her father would have wanted her to do.
