Chapter 15

Zane tucked his hands into his pocket and sighed deeply. He didn’t know how his grandfather was going to react on hearing the disappointing news nor was he afraid to say it. He had been raised up as a fearless child and leader. Nothing scared him too much to make him run like a coward instead he was trained to stand and face the problem like a soldier would do in a war zone.
The fresh breeze blew past him in seconds which reminded him that he was standing outside the house, on the balcony. He heard his grandfather’s footsteps behind him and when he turned, the sound of the steps stopped. Now, he was facing the old man, trying not to get intimidated by those dark blue eyes, “I should have told you earlier. I am sorry.”
“But you didn’t,” the old man sat down on a nearby chair and kept his walking stick aside, “What about the girl?”
“Ava. She was rescued,” Zane wasn’t ready to admit it, but he couldn’t lie either.
“By who?” He knew that his grandfather was hoping not to hear the name of a Mutant.
Zane exhaled, “Philip.”
“Philip Browne, the bastard that you couldn’t defeat in a simple fight.” The tone of the old man’s voice was going low.
“I will get him, that’s not a problem. I already contacted the spy.” Zane said and the whole place fell silent. It seemed like his father was thinking deeply about something, “I also found something on Ava’s arm when I got close to her.”
His grandfather looked up immediately, “What?”
“An eagle’s eye. David must have carved it on her body at birth,” Zane said.
“An eagle’s eye!” Mr. Zadiach said loudly, “And she is with Philip?”
That question was already answered but Zane understood the depth. Ava was a seer like her father, not just a seer but a sharp-sighted girl who had the capability of transforming into the animal that was considered ancient and saturated with magic. Ava was not more powerful than her father but she possessed something that was beyond the scope of being a seer. So, the longer she stayed with Philip, the more dangerous she could become.
“Kill her, Zane. Find the girl and kill her,” Mr. Zadiach said, “And get rid of Philip this time, or he might kill you before you get the chance to do anything to the girl.”
Zane felt anger rise on the inside of him. He hated it when his grandfather spoke as if Philip was the strongest of the two of them. So many things had changed in the past years yet, the old man preferred to always refer to that time in the past when Philip won in a fight between the two of them.
**********
Zane felt the forward movement of the car as its tyre rolled on the highway. He didn’t mind the driver who was perhaps enjoying the speed of the car. All he could think about was Ava, the beautiful hazel-eyed girl that he first met at a party. He had to confess within himself that she must have hated him, especially after what happened to her father. Still, he wanted to touch her and feel her skin one more time. His grandfather would have called it obsession but it was more than that. The rate at which he wanted Ava was more than the speed of his car. The driver’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts, “We are here, Master Zane.”
With that, Zane opened the door himself and stepped down from the car. Standing in front of him was a gigantic building, looking like a palace. It wasn’t different from his grandfather’s abode, “Wait for me here,” he told the driver and then proceeded inside the building. The guards just simply made way for him knowing who he was. The entrance door opened automatically and a young man of his age approached him with a cocky smile, “You are finally here,” Andras said with his hands in his pocket.
Zane nodded and sighed, “It’s been a long time.”
“True,” he turned and walked away from Zane, “Make yourself comfortable.”
Zane Sauntered into the king-like sitting room and sat down on one of the sofas. He wasn’t jealous of Andras for inheriting all his family’s wealth. He was only jealous of the fact that Andras was such a good manager of the inheritance. They were both twenty-two years old, with extremely handsome features. Their families were both stinkingly wealthy and they were both trained to become leaders. The only difference between them was the color of their eyes and the way they went about their duties as leaders. Andras Deirdre had deep brown eyes that held too many secrets and he was also part of the Mutant Hunters Committee, otherwise called The Hunters. He was a relentless warrior and a known Mutant Hunter in the committee. Even though he wasn’t in the top rank, his skills were still needed.
“What brought you to my house tonight?” Andras sat down on a sofa, facing Zane.
“A request,” Zane replied.
“I am listening,” Andras said carefully, allowing some strands of his brown hair to relax on his face.
“I want you to help me kill Philip,” Zane said, “He is protecting a girl whose father offended my grandfather.”
“Browne? The guy that you told me about some years ago?”
“Yes, he is.”
“Obviously, he survived the attack.”
“Yeah. I was shocked to see him.”
“You didn’t do anything?” Andras glanced at Zane.
“That is not important right now. I just want you to kill him for me, then leave the girl to me.”
“Do you have an address?”
“Once I receive it, I will send it to you.” Zane replied and Andras nodded. From the look of Andras’ face, he was thirsty for blood. A Mutant’s blood. Having sorted out the plan on how to get rid of Philip, he had to start thinking of how to lure Ava to himself.
