Terry knew Emily well. After two years together, he had known her even better. When they say Hunter that day, he already knew that she wanted to run again.
“He had found his way here. Where else can we go?”
Emily did think that she wanted to escape. She wanted to flee to a place where Hunter would never find her. However, it was not easy after he knew where she was. Besides, how far could she go with her two kids?
“Don’t think too much. I’ll be by your side, no matter what.” Terry gently hugged her in his arms.
“It’s okay. I don’t have feelings for that man anymore. Gale Corporation’s crisis had long been resolved. Even if he comes, it will not affect me.”
She said that to comfort Terry and herself. Terry nodded. He wanted to say something, but he did not know whether he should say it. He seldom hesitated, so Emily looked at him. “Is there something you wanted to say?”
“They’ve not arrested Wendy yet.”
Emily was taken aback. She did not know what to say for a while.
Terry’s voice was soft. “The Gale family have never stopped looking for you. They put their minds off Wendy because they focused their attention on you.”
“Didn’t they call the police?” As long as they reported to the police, they would continue to look for her.
“Maybe she’s no longer in Bentson or City L?”
“Probably not. Everyone didn’t put much thought on her. The police did look for her, but they couldn’t find her.”
Terry told her because he wanted to tell her something else. He did not know why he told her those things. It served no benefits to him, but he thought Emily should know about it.
“Both Gale Corporation and Jackson Corporation were working together. The two companies had many big projects under development. Hunter even took over the project that Fifth Young Master Jackson was handling.”
Emily said nothing; she did not want to know about Hunter. She knew that Terry told her that because it was related to her. Terry looked at the sky in the distance, and his voice was light. “I heard that he gave Porter five percent of shares to Jackson Corporation to take over the project.”
Emily’s fingers tightened their grasps on the railing. Five percent! She knew how much those five percent of shares were worth! It was enough for a family to live in luxury for ten lifetimes! He had given up five percent of his shares so that he could help Gale Corporation. That man was a lunatic!
“Then Gale… Gale Corporation’s project…”
“The contract was terminated peacefully.” That was what Terry wanted to say.
Hunter gave away five percent of his shares for Gale Corporation. He did that for Emily, not so much for Gale Corporation. Even though Terry did not want Emily to have any more connection with Hunter, he thought she should know about it. He wanted her to make an informed choice; he was used to guarding and protecting her discreetly.
He had confessed his feelings because Joe had suggested it. Perhaps he had drunk too much that night and acted rashly. He hoped that Emily could be happy. If she were happy with him, then he would persist no matter his opponent. However, if Emily was not happy, then he did not want to put her in an awkward position.
“I’m going to see the two children. You should rest early.”
Emily remained silent. Terry looked at her for a long time before he turned to leave. The moment he turned, she grabbed his hand.
“Terry, don’t you want to be with me? Why are you telling me this?”
“Your heart is all messed up, so don’t force yourself.” Terry grabbed her hand in return. He held it for a brief moment before he let it go.
“Terry!” She did not want to choose, because she should not be the one to choose. So, he should not give her the right to choose; she did not want it!
Terry smiled. He brushed her long hair lovingly. His tone did not match his cold appearance; it was soft and gentle.
“I didn’t want to force you to do anything. I just hope that you can live as you wish, Emily. I will support you in whatever you decide to do.”
Then he left. He walked into the hall and then went to see the children. Emily was perturbed. What Hunter did for her had exceeded her expectations. Terry could easily choose not to tell her, but he did anyway. She held her head in her hands and closed her eyes.
She told herself not to think about it, not to think about the man who had appeared thin, depressed, and tired. She did not want to think about it!
She had her children, and she had Terry! Perhaps they should move, not to escape, just for a change of environment.
Emily stood on the balcony for a long time before she made up her mind. She did not want to stay in City N any longer. As soon as she walked into the house, she saw Terry as he came out of the children’s room.
He had answered a call, and he spoke in a hushed tone. Emily decided to watch him by the side of the hall. It looked like it was a call from Terry’s company, and it had sounded urgent. Soon, Terry hung up the call and looked at her.
“Is it something urgent from the company?” Emily asked.
“Hmm.” Terry nodded. “Mr. Moses was attacked tonight. Our men were injured, so the company wanted me to escort him back to his country.”
“Will it be dangerous?” Emily had heard about Mr. Moses, and if Terry’s colleagues were injured on the job, then perhaps it was a dangerous job.
“If I tell you that it is not dangerous working in the security service, would you believe it?”
Terry did not want to lie to her because he knew he could not hide the truth. Besides, he would be uneasy if he did not tell her the truth. He had never believed in white lies anyway.
“Don’t worry. I know that my wife and children are waiting for me at home, so I will take good care of myself.”
As a man, his family was his greatest responsibility. Emily nodded. She helped him to pack his luggage and send him to the door.
She was a little uneasy. “Be careful.”
“Yeah.” Terry knew he had to leave, but he found it extremely difficult to do so that night.
He pulled Emily into an embrace. Then, he planted a kiss on her forehead. “Wait for me.”
