Wendy wanted Emily to go to Fisherman Wharf, but Emily told Lottie that it was Steveston Wharf. She could not allow Lottie to go with her because she could not put her grandfather at risk for not obeying Wendy’s instructions. At the same time, she also knew that she would be in grave danger if she were to go alone!
She only had an hour to prepare. She was worried about what Wendy might do to her grandfather if she could not make it in time. Emily looked at her phone and wondered if she should call Joseph.
Unfortunately, she would not be able to contact Joseph’s phone. He was out at sea. It was normal if she could not get through to him at that hour and such a far distance. That must have been in Wendy’s plans. She deliberately left Joseph with a clue that she was still out at sea just to lure him away. It was her trick to lure the tiger away from the base!
Emily tried to make the call several times, but they could not go through, so she gave up and dialed another number. However, Hunter’s mobile was powered off as well. She knew that her last hope was gone.
Emily peeped through the door gap and saw Lottie walked into her room while she was on the phone. Emily immediately changed into a set of comfortable clothes and walked out of her room. She went to the kitchen to look for something and snuck out of the hall when no one was in sight.
There were many cars in the garage, and the keys were in them. Emily opened the door of one of the cars and got it. Just as she was about to start the car, her face sank slightly. She still trusted him and depended on him, and when she was in despair, she would always think of Hunter.
She took out her mobile phone and sent a message to Hunter. ” Wendy wants me to go to Fisherman Wharf now. I am going by myself, and I don’t know if I’ll be in danger.”
After she sent the message, she started the car and stepped on the accelerator as the car lurched out of the garage.
Perhaps Hunter and Wendy were really together. Perhaps Hunter no longer cared about her. Perhaps… There were too many perhaps, but she wanted to believe him and to rely on him. Maybe, that was the last time she would depend on him…
She knew how to drive in her previous life, but she had not driven after her rebirth. It was a clumsy start, but after a few moments, she got the hang of it. The black-colored luxury car moved seamlessly like an elf in the night…
The abandoned Fisherman Wharf seemed even quieter at night. Apart from the dimmed light in the distance, the surrounding area was almost pitch black. Emily parked her car in the dock’s open space, got out, and walked toward the lighted area. Halfway there, her phone rang. She thought it was a call from Wendy, but she was surprised to see that it was Hunter instead.
“What are you doing?” Hunter’s ruthless voice roared.
The sound of the roaring wind accompanied his voice. It seemed like he had stood against the strong wind, and the wind only got louder as each moment passed. Was he walking?
No, it sounded more like he drove against the wind? Or was he on a boat? Where was he?
” Wendy said that she would only let grandfather go if I came here.”
“Are you naive or stupid? Do you think she would really let him go if you meet with her? Are you not familiar with the kind of a person Wendy is?”
Hunter was glad that he turned on his phone on a sudden whim. Otherwise, he would have missed that silly girl’s message! That woman was an idiot!
“Now, listen to me and go back immediately. I told you, your grandfather is fine. Did you not hear me?”
“What are you talking about?” Emily’s fingers tightened around the phone instantly. “My grandfather?”
How would he know? How could he be so sure? Emily’s heart suddenly turned cold.
Some terrible thoughts ricocheted through her mind. She felt so cold that she shook all over.
“Hunter, you knew! You knew about it all along! You were the one who changed the hair samples, weren’t you?”
On the other end of the line, there was only the sound of the wind. There was no response from him; he was silent. That meant he had admitted to it!
“Why?!” Emily almost shouted on top of her lungs!
Why did he do that? Why did he change their hair samples, and why did he stop her from reconciling with her grandfather?
“When did you know about it? Before we came to City L? Why didn’t you say anything about it earlier? You…”
Suddenly, she panicked. The hand that held the phone trembled.
“You… and Wendy joined forces to set up my grandfather and eldest cousin brother?”
That was why he was so calm when he saw her on the bed with Joseph that night. It turned out that he already knew Wendy’s plan! He might have plotted it with her too!
“Hunter, tell me! Why are you doing this? Do you want to take down Gale Corporation as well?”
“I have no intention for Gale Corporation.”
Even though Gale Corporation was a successful and respectable company, Jackson Corporation was not inferior to it. He was not interested in Gale Corporation!
“Then, why? Why are you doing this to us? With Wendy!”
Emily was in despair. She did not expect the person she relied on when she was in danger would be the same person to stab her in the back! She could not see through the man, so she could not figure him out!
“Hunter!”
“I don’t want to explain anything else for now, but go home immediately. You should not step out of Gale’s mansion!”
Hunter sounded very cold. Even though the wind was strong and violent, it did not stop his cold aura from seeping through the phone.
“Why should I listen to you? You want to hurt my grandfather! You’re a bad person!”
Emily was so agitated that she almost threw the phone away. She was desperate from the moment that he went silent on the phone. She could not figure out his intentions!
He had helped Wendy to deceive the Gale family and prevented her from reconciling with her grandfather… Had he been involved in all of those since he was in Bentson? Eldest Young Master Jackson had everything, what more could he want? Was money really that important? With Jackson Corporation in his hands, why would he use such a method to rob the Gale family?
She refused to believe that he would do that, but it seemed like he was the one who switched their hair samples! Wendy might be talking nonsense, but she was absolutely right about people around her deceiving her. Yet, Emily knew nothing about it! She was such an idiot!
“Emily, listen to me! Go home immediately! I assure you that your grandfather is safe, and he will be home in a few days.”
“Then tell me, where is my grandfather now? What is he doing? When will he come back?”
“I can’t tell you now, you…”
Suddenly, Emily hung up the phone! He tried calling her again, but she had turned off her mobile! As he stared at the screen, Hunter was so anxious that blue veins had appeared on his forehead! He had completely lost her trust!
He dialed another number quickly. “Get some people and rush to Fisherman Wharf immediately. Now!”
He hung up the phone and spun around to stare at Liam, who was maneuvering the speedboat. “Did you not eat? Why is it so slow? Move, I will do it!”
