“I have classes tomorrow.” As she helped Hunter with his clothes, Emily hesitated before she mentioned that to him
Beg him!
There was no other way; she was already his toy. If she did not beg him, she might not make it back to school at all.
Hunter did not say anything; Emily did not know if his silence meant his approval.
“May I go to school tomorrow?” She buttoned his shirt.
Still, he did not say a word.
Emily was in despair. Would she become a prisoner in WongRiver Pavilion over the next three months? Should she thank him since he allowed her to use her laptop and books? Otherwise, she would not even have the opportunity to study and work.
Helplessly, she stepped to a corner after she buckled his belt—just like what an obedient servant would do.
Hunter walked toward the door. Old Master Gale was downstairs, so he had to spend some time with him
Emily had nothing else to tend to. She thought she would just do her own stuff in her room after he left.
However, when he reached the door, he stopped.
“Why are you still standing there?”
“Huh?” What was that supposed to mean?
Emily raised her head to look at him; she did not know what he had meant.
“Don’t you need to serve me breakfast?” He coldly asked, “Trying to back out now, are you?”
Of course, that was not what she had meant!
If she were to back out, she could not predict what would happen to Lois.
However, she thought she only agreed to be his woman.
A maid? She had received that extra role out of nowhere; she did not even get a chance to refuse it!
She had to serve him? Did he think he was a king?
However, she was at his place, and he was the king there!
‘King’ was not an exaggeration.
Emily trailed behind Hunter and went downstairs with him. Old Master Gale and Wendy were still in the side room. Wendy wanted to go upstairs and rest, but Old Master Gale had no plans to leave. He wanted to wait for Hunter.
Wendy was worried that Emily would have too many interactions with Old Master Gale if she were to go upstairs. So, she decided to stay back anyway, just so that they would not have a chance to talk alone.
When Hunter entered the room, Joseph immediately said, “Our apologies, Eldest Young Master Jackson. We treated your home like ours today; we hope you don’t mind.”
“Not at all, I was afraid that you wouldn’t do that.”
As Hunter went to them, the butler pulled out the chair for him right away.
After he sat down, Emily stood behind him like a maid.
‘It looks like she is really here as a maid.’ Old Master Gale was relieved when he saw that.
It was good for a little girl to gain some life experience. He would not be worried as long as she was not there to be his woman.
The maids served Hunter his breakfast, and they were his usual plain food—coffee, sandwich, and fried eggs.
He was not a picky eater, and his breakfast had always been simple.
On the other hand, Wendy always had a lot of food piled in front of her—she had ten different types of dim sums on the table.
As a woman who grew up in a rich and powerful family, she was used to being pampered. If her breakfast were not up to her standards, it would affect her mood for the rest of the day.
“Grandfather, are you here to discuss something with Hunter?”
They were supposed to go back to City L, but Wendy hated to leave Young Master Jackson so soon. On second thoughts, it was better if the old man were to go back to City L as quickly as possible.
She did not expect that he and Emily would have some tacit understanding—everything that she was worried about had come true.
“Of course, I’m here to thank Eldest Young Master Jackson for taking such good care of you.” Old Master Gale looked at Hunter warmly.
“Our Wendy had been disturbing you for so long, and we’re grateful that you took care of her. I want to express my formal gratitude to you.”
Old Master Gale looked different when he was in a serious discussion. That was the necessary demeanor of someone of good stature in the business world.
“Rest assured, if you visit City L in the future, I will personally invite you to a feast to show my gratitude.”
“It is my responsibility.” It was Hunter’s grandmother’s wish to let Wendy stay with him, no one needed to thank him for that.
Old Master Gale, however, misunderstood his meaning.
“Eldest Young Master Jackson, you and Wendy…” He looked at Wendy, and the girl blushed before she looked away.
Old Master Gale smiled; he did not expect Eldest Young Master Jackson would admit that so readily.
“Even though you have an intimate relationship, everything would have to wait until Wendy comes home with us to City L to pray to our ancestors.”
After all, she was his granddaughter. If she were to get married, then she would have to get married as the Gale family’s granddaughter. She must have led a hard life before that. He promised that he would treat her well in the days to come!
“Pray to your ancestors?” Hunter squinted his eyes.
He had not paid attention to the stories that Wendy had told him; hence he did not know why she would have such a good relationship with Old Master Gale. He thought they had some sort of familial relationship since they shared the same surname.
He thought that Wendy had only treated the older man with respect when she addressed him as ‘Grandfather.’ However, it was another thing to pray to another family’s ancestors!
Wendy was his paternal grandmother’s granddaughter, how could she have any familial ties with City L’s Gale family?
“Wendy, you have not told Eldest Young Master Jackson?” Old Master Gale tilted his head and looked at Wendy. Then he frowned and said, “I thought you already did.”
“I…” She had felt guilty because Emily was there with them.
“Grandfather, can we talk about this later? I’m a little hungry!”
However, it was obvious that Hunter was not ready to let the issue slide.
“Old Master Gale, please kindly explain your relationship with Wendy.”
“Wendy is my Gale family’s granddaughter. About 20 years ago, my son…”
“Grandfather! I’m not feeling well, I… I’m in pain.”
Wendy’s face turned pale out of fear. She did not wish to mention the story in front of Emily.
Emily, on the other hand, did not understand what had happened. Her heart suddenly pumped rapidly when she noticed Wendy’s reaction.
She had predicted that! She knew someone had lied to her! It was not the first time it had happened!
“Grandfather, is Wendy not Charles’s daughter?” she asked in anxiousness.
“Grandfather, I…”
“Wait, your folks didn’t tell you? Well, they had helped my son to take care of Sang…”
“Grandfather! I’m sick! I… I have a tummy ache! Argh! My stomach is really painful!”
Wendy grabbed Old Master Gale’s hand tightly as she shouted hysterically, “It hurts, it really hurts! I can’t take it anymore!”
Her screams startled Old Master Gale, and he kept her hand on her as he stood up.
“Wendy, what is the matter? Are you sick?”
Wendy had run out of tricks, so she had to use any excuse to stop the conversation.
“Someone must have poisoned our breakfast! It must be Emily; she had wanted to see me dead! Grandfather, please send me to the hospital!”
“Wendy…”
“Get Peter.” Hunter barked an order with a blank expression.
“I…” Only then did Wendy realize that she shot herself in the foot.
The servants had prepared her breakfast, so had she not accused Hunter’s employees when she complained about some poison in her food?
However, if she did not break the conversion, her grandfather would have mentioned Talia, and then Emily would find out about their schemes.
