Chapter 300 Why So?

Book:My Most Precious Wife Published:2024-5-1

After their class, Emily and her friends were on their way back to their office at Sharp Corporation when her phone rang. It was Liam.
Her heart trembled as she answered the call. “Hello, Liam?”
Liam had taken the DNA report from her that morning. Could he have already compared it with the old madam’s DNA information in the hospital database?
She was so nervous that her hand shook as she waited in breathless suspension.
“Emily…” Sally wanted to approach her, but Joe held her back.
“Don’t interrupt her, it must be something important.”
Joe thought about it for a while and then turned to look at Aryan. “Terry is not around today, so please drive them to Sharp Corporation. I need to go somewhere with Emily.”
“You are going with her?” Sally looked unhappy. Why did Joe know what Emily was up to but not her?
“We just have something we need to do.” Joe nudged Sally. “Go on. We will be back soon.”
Sally was reluctant, but she did not want to create any trouble for her friends. After they left, Joe hurried toward Emily.
Emily disconnected the call and looked at Joe. “I need to go see Liam.”
“I know. I drove here today. Let’s go.”
The company gave each of them a new car so that they could move around comfortably.
“Okay, let’s go to UBC Coffee.”
UBC Coffee was not far from their campus. Joe drove, and they arrived in just a few short minutes.
As she walked into the cafe, something flashed through Emily’s mind. When was the last time she was there? It was when Wendy had asked her out. She remembered that Wendy had acted weird that day. She invited Emily out without a real purpose, and Emily remembered that she had an odd feeling that day. Wendy looked like she wanted to do something desperately, but what was it? When did it happen? Had Wendy known about her identity then?
“Emily, why are you just standing here and not going in?”
Emily felt as if she was about to remember something, but Joe interrupted her train of thoughts. Some images flowed through her mind like a deck of cards, but she could no longer recall any of them. She shook her head before she looked at Joe. “I need to speak to Liam about something.”
“I understand. I’ll wait for you at another table.”
Joe had already seen Liam. He took a table further away and signaled the waiter to take his order.
Emily walked toward Liam. Every step she took felt more burdensome than the other, but she looked forward to their meeting. It was a complicated feeling. She was anxious, nervous, uneasy, panicked, and excited—all at the same time.
Those feelings rattled inside her, and it made her uncomfortable. The 20 steps of distance felt like a century-long. Finally, she sat down opposite Liam.
“Here, drink something first.” Liam had ordered a drink for her.
Emily took it and drank half a cup in one go; she could not taste the coffee at all.
“Liam, did you find out about anything? Have you got the result?”
Liam looked at her and saw that she did not even bother to wipe off the coffee stain at the corner of her lips. He pulled a tissue and handed it to her as he softly said, “Here, wipe your mouth first.”
Emily immediately wiped the corners of her lips several times, and she held onto the paper towel tightly in her hand. Liam could see that she was very nervous. He hesitated before he took the report out of the file. That was the report she gave him that morning—the DNA result for herself and the old madam.
“Liam?” What did that mean? Emily did not understand it.
Liam took another document from the file. “This is the DNA information that the old madam left in the hospital database. I don’t know if you can understand it.”
Emily got increasingly flustered, and her fingers trembled. She took the two reports. It was a more detailed report that came out from the test that she did. In fact, she did not study it in detail because she did not know much about genetics. Anyway, the final results were the same.
However, Liam said, “Miss Emily, you should compare the two DNA results.”
Emily bit her lower lip. She held the two reports and scrutinized them carefully. Many of the things were indeed incomprehensible to her. There were too many English letters, and they were too complicated. She knew every single word of them, but when they were strung together, they made no sense to her, and her head spun when she looked at them. One thing was clear; there were many different readings. What did it mean, though?
“This is the DNA information that you left in the hospital. I have also requested a copy of that. You can compare them yourself.”
Liam took out another document and gave it to her. Emily took the copy of her DNA information and compared it with the information on the report. They were the same thing!
Even though she could not understand them, it was apparent that they were basically the same information.
“What?” Something tugged at her heart, and she felt panicked.
“What do you mean? Liam, tell me, what does this mean? I don’t understand it…”
“Miss Emily, there might be something wrong with this report.”
“Are you saying that the information on the report did not belong to the old madam, and I somehow fabricated them?”
Emily stood up abruptly as she slapped her hands on the table. She was in such a flurry that she could hardly speak.
“No, no! Absolutely not!”
“Miss Emily, I know it is difficult for you to accept it. However, I got this information from the hospital’s system, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.”
Liam seemed to have expected that she would have such a reaction as he immediately stood up to help her sit down. With a violent wave of her hand, Emily shook his hands away.
“Are you saying that I made up this report to deceive you and Eldest Young Master Jackson?”
“Miss Emily, please don’t be emotional. Let’s sit down and talk calmly. I believe that you won’t…”
“What’s the point of you believing in me? Facts speak louder than words. You think that I have fabricated the report!”
How could it be? How could it be fake? That was the old madam’s blood sample in the hospital.
How could it be fake? If it were false, then why did the test show that they were related? However, she did not believe Liam would lie to her. Why would Liam lie to her with false information? She was there to expose Wendy’s sham, and she was sure that Liam would never side with Wendy anyway. So, why? Why?
“Emily…” Yang noticed that something was wrong, so he immediately went to her. He held onto Emily as she crumbled onto the floor. “What’s going on?”
“The information that they got from the hospital and the one we have on Grandmother is not the same.”
Emily did not know who she should trust, but she knew that Joe was on her side. They did the test together, and they also got the report together, so Joe knew the truth!
“Impossible!” Joe looked at Liam as he said in a resolute tone, “The sample belonged to the old madam. How could the information be different? What the hell is going on?”
