Hunter frowned. He looked at her face and saw an uneasiness in her eyes.
“Henry told you about it?” Since when had he gotten so close to her?
Emily did not know how to explain that to him, but Hunter’s reaction had confirmed her suspicion about Aryastan!
“Can you not go?” Her new life had diverged so differently than her previous one. She was not sure if Hunter would survive the same accident.
“Why shouldn’t I go?” He cupped her face with his hands, but Emily did not even notice that.
“It’s too dangerous.” She was nervous.
She did some calculations in her head. Eldest Young Master Jackson was supposed to go to Aryastan next year. Since the timeline had altered that much, his fate might be changed too. What if he could not make it home?
“Do you care about me?” His mood lifted when he realized that she was worried about him. Hunter felt better, and there was even a glint in his eyes. Emily also felt that his cold aura had lessened.
However, she did not know how to answer that question. He had announced the dissolution of their engagement that morning, and yet, he was still with her in the evening.
“No matter my purpose, can you promise that you won’t go?”
“I have to go.”
“Eldest Young Master Jackson…”
“For the future.” For whose future? He did not say.
Emily knew that she could not change his mind. Only a few people could manage that. Suddenly, she felt sad about that. No matter how much she cared for him, he would never reciprocate the same feelings for her.
Emily shoved him hard. “I hope that you won’t go, but I know that I can’t change your mind.”
Hunter knew that she was angry. He wanted to give her an explanation, but it was a difficult thing for him to do as he was not used to explaining himself to anyone.
Then they heard footsteps from outside the stairwell.
Hunter leaned down to kiss Emily on her cheek. He whispered, “Wait for me.”
Then, he turned to leave. Emily’s heart quivered. He had canceled their engagement, and yet he wanted her to wait for him? How could he be so rude? She knew what he meant. He wanted her to wait for him to come back from Aryastan. Emily did not understand why he would need to go to such a dangerous place.
Emily had been relieved when he turned to leave. However, when he started to walk away, panic surged in her heart. If he insisted on going to Aryastan, was that their last meeting? She was perturbed, she was scared, and she was absolutely terrified!
“I won’t wait for you!”
Before she completely lost sight of him, Emily said, “If you go to Aryastan, I will be with Second Young Master Sharp immediately!”
Hunter stopped in his tracks. Then he spun around and stared at her with his cold eyes.
“You know that I am not one for jokes.”
“Well, I don’t like jokes, either.”
“Henry would never want you,” he said with indifference.
“Really? Well, if Second Young Master Sharp doesn’t want me, then I will be with Terry, or even with Mansion. Basically, any other man will do!”
“Emily, don’t try to provoke me!” Hunter started to get angry.
“I meant it!” Emily said acidly.
She was not angry. She only wanted to know if she could still exert a little influence over him.
‘Don’t go to Aryastan. Please don’t go to that dangerous place, don’t… never come back…’
Hunter squeezed his palms. He was not sure about other men, but Terry and Mansion were crazy about her! If she wanted her way, those two men would not be able to resist her! How would she dare to threaten him!
“Eldest Young Master Jackson, I am not joking. If you go to Aryastan, then I will find another man.”
“Do you think I care about that?” Hunter sneered at her.
He turned and slowly made his way back to her, step by step. He had a frightening cold aura around him.
Eventually, he stopped in front of her. His long fingers tilted her chin upward. “What would you use to seduce those men? This face?”
Emily did not reply to him. His aura was as cold as the Asura from hell. She knew that her voice would tremble if she were to say a single word. She did not want him to see that she was afraid of him. Without any warning, Hunter lowered his head to get closer to her face. His cold breath caressed her facial features; it was so cold it felt as if her blood had frozen. She tensed, but she bit her lips so that she could keep calm.
“Woman, you should remember that you are mine for the rest of your life!”
He brushed her lips with his fingertips, and her lips quivered.
“If I find out that you have another man, not only will I kill him, but I will also destroy you!”
Emily’s stopped breathing for a few seconds. She did not know when Hunter had left, but as soon as he did, she could finally breathe again. If she were to have another man in her life, Hunter had threatened not only to kill him but also to destroy her as well. That man was so brutal, so savage, and so cruel! Even if it were something he no longer wanted, he would not allow another person to touch it. Should she call him a scumbag? Unfortunately, she was more worried than anything else. Would he still go to Aryastan?
The door to the stairwell was abruptly opened, and a ray of light illuminated the dark space. Emily felt a little uncomfortable with the light, so she used her hands to cover her eyes.
“Why are you—” Henry peeked at the stairs, and he decided that no other questions were necessary. Even his heavy sigh seemed superfluous.
Emily felt that something dropped onto her shoulders, and she immediately felt a little warmer. She grabbed hold on the man’s coat and looked at him as he stood in front of her. She had no words for him.
“Second Young Master Sharp, you are quite updated with recent news. Do you know anything about the situation in Aryastan now?”
Henry’s eyes subconsciously glanced at the stairs again. Finally, he took her arms and led her out of the stairwell.
“War, famine… Forget it! It is more chaotic than you can ever imagine.”
Did his big brother tell her that he was to go to Aryastan? That was highly unusual for him. He had never acted like that.
Emily wrapped herself tighter in his coat and said nothing more. Henry did not take her back to the dinner party. Instead, he led her to his card. Emily did not react until he closed the door. She was so deep in her thoughts that she did not even know when she had gotten into his car.
“Second Young Master Sharp?” She felt uneasy. After a moment of hesitation, her hand fell onto the door handle, and she coldly said, “Second Young Master Sharp, I am not that kind of woman. If you wanted to bring a lady home, please get someone else instead!”
