Chapter 166 Life-Threatening Weakness

Book:My Most Precious Wife Published:2024-5-1

Liam was stunned. He stuttered and could not give Emily an answer. He would not have known how ‘ill’ the eldest young master had been until he saw it with his own eyes. He thought that what he told Emily was severe enough, so who would have known that Hunter would look much more critical than how he had described?
Hunter looked at them, but he thought he did not show much weakness. For someone who was usually as tough as the God of War, if they were seen lying in a bed and could not talk much, that was often enough to make people worried and in distress.
Emily did not bother to talk to Liam. She reached out to touch Hunter’s forehead instead.
She was relieved to find out that his temperature was normal.
When she realized that he had stared at her silently, she whispered, “How are you feeling? Are you okay?”
“Dizzy.” He thought that ‘dizzy’ was the best response for a patient with a concussion.
Liam looked at Vincent and murmured, “Third Young Master, let’s go out.”
Vincent stared at Hunter on the hospital bed and Emily, who sat on the side of the same bed. He had never seen that side of his eldest brother. Hunter had been willing to put himself down for a woman. His cold and proud aura was gone entirely from the moment Emily walked into the room.
Vincent was unhappy about that, but he could not expose his eldest brother so blatantly. He also had no reason to do so. Furthermore, his eldest brother did not have to pretend to look weak anyway. He only needed not to look like his usual cold demeanor, and all the women would feel bad for him. Vincent’s eyes landed on Emily momentarily before he turned and walked out of the room.
Liam followed behind Vincent. “Third Young Master, did you drive here by yourself?”
Vincent walked until the end of the corridor before he turned and stared at Liam. Liam was a little uneasy under his gaze. Then, he felt a weird tingling sensation on his scalp. He was surprised to find out that Third Young Master Jackson’s gaze could be so cold and bleak as well. He had never noticed that before.
“Third Young Master, is there something you’d like to say?”
“How was he injured?” A few normal people and little bricks had hurt him? What a joke!
Liam knew that it was impossible for him to hide the truth. He hesitated for a brief moment before he said, “It was while he tried to… save the Young Madam.”
It was as he had expected; it was that woman again! His brother had been in dangerous situations a few times, and it was all because of her. If not eradicated, she was like a tumor that could endanger Hunter’s life.
“Third Young Master, Young Madam had nothing to do with this matter.”
Liam knew that things were not right when he noticed the tense atmosphere around Vincent. He was the one who had planned the incident where Sally was kidnapped to prevent the eldest young master and the young madam from getting engaged.
He had wanted to stop Eldest Young Master Jackson from his engagement to the ugly Third Young Miss Jackson. He never thought that he would harm Sally or Emily in that process. He did not know that the people who took Sally were perverts and would decide to hurt her instead. It was apparent that Vincent opposed the idea of Eldest Young Master Jackson with Emily.
“Does Big Brother love Emily?”
Eldest Young Master Jackson had been injured a few times in the name of saving Emily. That morning, he had even hurt his head. What if it had been a fatal injury? He had also offended the people at Paradise Island for her. Everyone knew that the boss of Paradise Island was a lunatic! They had been looking for an opportunity to retaliate against Hunter after that little incident. Was that not Emily’s fault as well?
“Third Young Master, the young madam is the eldest young master’s fiancée. When his fiancée is in danger, it’s only natural for the eldest young master to want to save and protect her.”
“I only want to know if he really loves Emily.”
However, Vincent already had an answer in his mind as he had seen how his eldest brother had reacted. Perhaps his brother did not even realize that he was too committed to that woman!
“Do you know how many enemies that Big Brother has in Bentson?”
Vincent stared at Liam and sneered, “If any of them finds out that he has a woman for whom he cares dearly, what do you think they would do?”
Liam opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He fully understood that as well. When Hunter jumped into the ocean to save Emily, he already had a bad feeling about that. If the eldest young master’s enemies decided to use the young madam as a pawn, would he give up his life for hers?
“Since you know that the woman is a time bomb if she stayed by his side, why did you still allow it to happen?”
Vincent glared at Liam before he turned and walked away. Liam scratched his head. How was that his fault? He knew that the third young master’s words made sense, but why did he scold Liam? How could he have stopped anything from happening? He simply did his job, and that was to take orders from Eldest Young Master Jackson!
If Hunter wanted to put himself at risk and danger for that woman, who was he to say anything about it? Liam sighed.
Inside the hospital room, Emily helped Hunter to sit up on the bed.
When she saw the wound on his forehead, Emily felt bad and blamed herself.
“It’s all my fault…”
“Are you still angry?” The man’s voice was low and hoarse, and her heart ached when she heard that.
Emily shook her head and whispered, “No, I’m not angry anymore.”
“Will you come home then?”
Emily looked at him, but Hunter did not look at her. He asked so casually that one might think he did not care much about his question. She did not know how to answer him.
It was the weekend for the semi-final, and her team’s schedule was jam-packed. That day, everyone had immediately returned to the office after their class so that they could continue to work on their publication. She was the only one who had snuck out.
She had wanted to visit Hunter to make sure that he was alright before she returned to the office to continue to work on her scripts. He seemed to be well, and yet he still looked weak. Emily was in a dilemma. She considered her decision to go back home. Suddenly, Hunter raised his hand and used his long fingers to press onto his forehead.
“What’s wrong?” His action startled Emily, and she hurried to help him. “Is your head hurting again?”
He did not reply to her. He was not in the mood to entertain her after he saw her behavior.
“I will get the doctor to check on you.”
“No need!” He flipped the quilt so that he could get out of the bed.
Emily went to his side immediately to support his arm.
“The doctor said that you have a slight concussion, so you might get a dizzy spell. Please be careful.”
“I’m okay.” Hunter sat on the side of the bed. His cold demeanor was no different from his usual self.
“If you have things to do, get Liam to send you back to the university.”
“I… I’ll go back later.” She did have things to do, but how could she leave when Eldest Young Master Jackson looked like that?
The man’s face sank instantly. It seemed like she still wanted to head back to the university. Had she not agreed to go home with him?
He pushed her hand gently. “I can manage.”
It was not easy to get along with the cold and unapproachable Eldest Young Master Jackson. Emily would not have dared to get close to him had he not been injured.
“What do you want to do?” She dared not hold or support him, but she also did not want to walk away.
“The doctor had told you to get some rest. Don’t get out of bed unless you really need to.”
Hunter stood up, but he did not expect his body to tremble from that simple action.
