Liam felt defeated as he returned to the WongRiver Pavilion and saw Hunter still in the car. He had his laptop on a custom-made small table. It looked as if he was focused on work, and he had seemed very unenthusiastic when Liam went to find Emily.
However, Liam knew that the eldest young master only seemed indifferent on the outside. He cared for the young madam, and paid attention to any matters about her. Why else would he not have left when he got into the car? Why did he come up with an excuse to remain there when he heard that Emily was nearby?
When he saw Liam had returned alone, Hunter frowned. “Where is she?”
“Young Madam said that she has things to do, so she went off already.”
“Did you tell her that I requested for her to join me for a cup of tea?” His frown lines knitted tighter.
“I did. When she said that she doesn’t like tea, I even told her that she could have coffee instead. But she said that she doesn’t like coffee either.”
Suddenly, Hunter opened the door and climbed out of the car.
Liam did not know what he wanted to do, so he quickly said, “Young Madam has already left.”
With a long and stern face, Hunter opened the door to the driver’s side and swung his long legs into the seat.
“Young Master, where are you going? Are you going to the company? I…”
The engine throttled so loud that it nearly deafened him. Liam was dumbfounded when the young master drove the car away. It seemed like he had been left behind, yet again. Did the eldest young master want to chase after the young madam? If he had cared so much about her, why did he not wait for her at the courtyard? Why did he have to act all cool about it?
Hunter had a dark look on his face. He drove the car out of the WongRiver Pavilion and slowly headed toward the gate. The Jackson’s mansion was so big that the girl might not have even walked out of the main entrance. Sure enough, after he waited for a few moments, he saw her sauntered toward the gate.
It seemed like Emily had not noticed the car nor the person in it. It was a big mansion, so she was already out of breath when she reached the gate.
Hunter had chased her away the last time she was at the Jackson’s mansion, so she was a little embarrassed to get a driver to send her off.
Even though she knew that the Jackson’s mansion was built on top of a hill and there was a long way before she would arrive at the bottom of the high slope, she still wanted to do it by herself.
She would just have to get her driver’s license and drive there if she were to visit the old madam again.
A few moments after she walked out of the gate, a low-profile luxurious car drove past her. With a screech, the car pulled to a stop next to her. Was that not the same car that was parked by the gate?
Emily narrowed her eyes and looked at the car’s window as it wound down. Was that Hunter? Her eyes suddenly gleamed with a sense of caution and estrangement.
Even though he had mentally prepared himself, Hunter still felt hurt by her indifference. How had she been after those few days? He had deliberately not asked about her, but he wondered about what she did and who she had been with while she was there. He thought she would call him to tell him about her ongoings at school, but she had not made a single phone call.
“This is a hill. Are you planning to walk down like this?” He asked as he tried to maintain an expressionless blank face.
“It doesn’t matter, I can walk,” Emily responded plainly.
“Are you willing to walk for two hours?”
That girl was still angry with him!
“Don’t you have class in the afternoon?”
“A cab might pass by. I do have classes this afternoon, so I will take a cab. Don’t worry about it, Eldest Young Master Jackson.”
“There is no cab along this road. How long do you want to keep this up?”
Emily was so annoyed that she immediately stepped forward. She had completely ignored his existence! She had walked away without even a hello! How daring was that woman?
No one had ever treated Hunter so unkindly. It was as if she did that to provoke him! He was so angry and annoyed that he just drove after her.
“Are you trying to embarrass me in front of the Jackson family?”
“Is there anyone from the Jackson family here?” Emily acted as if she did not want to bother about him at all.
She remembered how he had treated her before he chased her away. She was no longer angry at him, but she did not want to interact with him either. It would have been better if he had pretended that he had not seen her. Why must he chase after her?
“This is still the Jackson family’s compound.” Hunter did not want to argue with her. “Get in the car.”
She did not say anything and simply ignored his presence. Then he continued in a displeased tone, “If you still remember the agreement between us…”
Emily took a deep breath before she eventually stopped. She walked to the back of the car and opened the back seat door before she climbed in. The man was still angry, but Emily had got into the car without any further resistance. He did not want to break the streak at that moment. It was apparent that she had thrown a tantrum. Why should he stoop to her level?
The car went down the hill at a steady speed. Hunter even deliberately slowed the car so that it would slowly glide down the road. The atmosphere in the car was a little tense. He peeked at her from the rearview mirror, but Emily had tilted her head to the side and enjoyed the outside scenery peacefully. It seemed like she did not want to speak to him at all. They had not seen each other for a few days. Had she really nothing to say to him?
Hunter could no longer take the silence after a few more minutes, so he asked, “When are you moving back?”
“Do you want me to move back, Eldest Young Master Jackson?” Her tone was bleak. “Didn’t you ask me to go far away?”
Hunter remained silent.
People often said that women were small-minded creatures, Hunter had finally experienced that in person. That incident had seemed so long ago, why would she still think about it?
He pursed his lips and tried to sound indifferent. “It’s just… It was a mistake.”
“Oh, does Eldest Young Master Jackson make mistakes as well?” It looked like that small mistake had hurt her gravely. Hunter’s eyes flickered. The girl had covered herself with thorns to protect herself. It would not be easy to break her barrier.
However, he was really uncomfortable and was not willing to continue the cold war between them. It had been several days, and he had no idea how she was doing at school. All he knew was that his life had been a mess after she left.
He could not sleep at night, so he chose to work until he lost the battle with his eyelids. Then he would take short naps. However, every time he closed his eyes, he would see the two streams of tears at the corners of her eyes. The girl had never cried in front of him, but she had cried that day. Had his actions hurt her that badly that day?
“That day…”
“Eldest Young Master Jackson, let me off at the intersection ahead. I can take a bus to school.” Emily interrupted him and pointed to the upcoming intersection in front of them.
Hunter suddenly felt very frustrated. When had the car arrived on the main road? Had he known about it, he would have driven much slower than that.
“Hmm.” That was all he replied. When they arrived at the intersection, he showed no intention to stop at all.
“Eldest Young Master Jackson?” Emily was dumbstruck.
Had he not agreed to let her off at the intersection? They had just driven past the intersection. What did he think he was doing?
“Well, you can let me off by the roadside further up ahead.”
“I can take you to school. It’s along my way.”
“There is no need. I can…”
“… Sorry.”
