They knew that Eldest Young Master Jackson would not intrude Paradise Island for a random woman. They had known each other for more than ten years, and they had been brothers since their teenage years. Hunter had always turned a blind eye to women. Over the years, no woman had ever snagged his attention. However, it was a different case if it was his missing fiancée. After all, she was his nominal fiancée. Even if he had not liked her, he would never allow her to be auctioned off like an item. That would have likened a slap to his face.
At least that would justify his action if the woman had been Emily.
“That doesn’t sound right, though.” Monty frowned as he studied the man who held a drink in his hand.
“There’s a rumor… about how your fiancée looks ugly with a face full of freckles…”
A cold, icy gaze swept across the room. Monty felt as if he had discovered a whole new world, and he became uninterested in the game. He chucked the mouse aside and sat down on the leather sofa next to Hunter. Then he stared into his handsome face as he carefully observed the expression on his face.
“Big Brother, do you really want to protect your ugly wife? Okay, okay. I won’t call her ugly.”
It was only a rumor, and they had yet to meet her anyway. They were astonished by Hunter’s reaction when they called her ugly, though. He had glared at his closest friends for a woman, so that was unprecedented! It seemed like he had a soft spot for his fiancée.
“I was only speaking the truth; don’t hit me, Big Brother. Paradise Island would never auction an ugly woman anyway.”
If it had been an ugly girl, the auction would not only fail, but Paradise Island’s reputation would also go down the drain. Hunter snorted as he took his glass of wine and downed it in one gulp. Everyone was intrigued by his reaction!
Henry glanced at him and smiled. “Are you saying that your supposedly ugly wife is actually a stunning beauty?”
Hunter did not respond to him, but he poured himself another glass of wine and raised his glass to Henry. At that moment, not only Henry’s eyes lit up in surprise, Monty and Johnny Anderson, who had always been quieter than Hunter, also looked at him with curiosity. What news could be more exciting than to find out about Hunter’s fiancée?
Hunter put down the empty glass and stared at the stain on the rim of the glass. The image of a girl moaning beneath him surfaced in his mind. His eyes gleamed with radiance.
“Mmm.” Finally, Eldest Young Master Jackson nodded and poured himself another glass of wine.
His fiancée must have been a rare beauty in the world if even Eldest Young Master Jackson praised her! They could not believe that he would compliment a woman when he was always so harsh toward them.
“Really?” Monty was dying to meet the woman who his friend had proclaimed a beauty. He wondered if she looked like a goddess.
“The woman that I heard on the phone tonight; was that your fiancée?”
Monty recalled that he had heard a woman’s voice at the other end of the phone. She had wanted Eldest Young Master Jackson’s approval for a night at the karaoke with her friends.
“Did you agree to come out with us bachelors because your woman had left you behind tonight?
Had Eldest Young Master Jackson been stood up by a woman? Oh, how things had changed! Henry and Johnny also looked at their big brother, and Henry asked with a smile, “What’s going on?”
“Nothing. When I first asked Big Brother to join us, he had turned me down. In the background, I could hear his wife telling him that she wanted to hang out with her friends. She might even stay the night at her friend’s place tonight!”
Hunter had forgotten to hang up before he put his phone away when Emily spoke to him. So, Monty had an opportunity to eavesdrop and heard quite a fair bit of their conversation. Then he had hung up when he realized it was rude to intrude on his friend’s private conversation. Nonetheless, he had heard enough to deduce what had happened then.
“Big Brother, what did she mean when she said not to interfere with her life? Was the engagement a sham?”
Hunter wanted to give Monty a vicious slap for that gossip! How much did he hear? Monty shrugged nonchalantly when he glared at him as if to tell Hunter that he had no choice but to eavesdrop on their conversation. Hunter was annoyed when Emily mentioned how he should not interfere with her life. It was true that he had come up with that term, but it looked like it had backfired on him!
Hunter had never turned back on his words. Since he had agreed to not interfere with her life, he would abide by it. He would do it even if he had mixed emotions about her. Henry had the sharpest mind among those in the group, and it seemed like he had figured out the situation when he saw Hunter’s dark eyes.
“Big Brother, you must have come up with the engagement sham to please Old Madam. However, you did not expect to fall for the girl, right?”
“No such thing.” How could he have fallen for her?
She was only a young lady, so how could he let his emotions get the better of him because of her? Hunter looked so fretful that even Monty believed Henry’s deduction.
“Let me guess. Big Brother must have made the agreement arrogantly to feign the engagement, and you decided to put the clause where you are not to interfere with each other’s lives, right?”
“Then, you realize that she is attractive and charming. You want to annul the agreement, but it’s also too late to do that now. Am I right?”
“Are you done?” Hunter suddenly stood up and headed toward the door.
“Hey, I’m just…” Before Monty could finish his sentences, Eldest Young Master Jackson had disappeared through the door.
Monty wanted to go after him, but Henry said with a grin, “It seems like you have hit Big Brother’s soft spot. Do you know what you have done? Do you still want to live to see another day?”
Monty thought about it and admitted that he had gotten a little too lippy with his big brother. However, he was also curious about the woman who had attracted the attention of someone like Eldest Young Master Jackson.
“I should probably let him know that I wasn’t making fun of him.”
“I’ll do it.” Henry stood up and walked to the door.
He wore his beautiful long hair in a ponytail; one might think he was a girl if they were to see his back. However, his generous height would also break that illusion.
“Then I…” Curiosity would always kill the cat! It was too bad that Monty would be restless if he did not satisfy his concerns.
“Let’s go.” Johnny also stood up and pushed past him.
“You are curious about that, too, right?”
Monty knew that they were all intrigued by their big brother’s first love experience! It was such a rare occurrence. Some people waited a lifetime but never got to see it. Their big brother had a crush on a girl. How could he let the matter rest? There was no way he could do that!
“Just know that I won’t be able to save you if you run your mouth again.” Johnny warned him as they walked out of the room. He would not want to see Monty in a hospital because their big brother decided to teach him a lesson. They had been brothers for many years, after all.
“I know, I know. I will keep my mouth shut and say nothing.” Monty vowed with his hand in the air.
Johnny ignored him. When he got out of the club, he saw Hunter’s tall and slender figure as he stood at the club’s entrance. Henry also stood near him. Both of them were staring at the KTV across the road. Several boys and girls came out of the KTV’s entrance, and then they walked down the street.
