Would they break up for real after two years?
She had pretty much made up her mind, but why did she hesitate when Sally asked her about it? No, how could she hesitate? Had she not decided on that since the incident in her past life? She would have to stay away from Eldest Young Master Jackson if she wanted to live a long and peaceful life! She cherished her life too much!
“Busybody.” She diverted her attention back to the visitor’s form, and when she was done, she handed it to the staff at the asylum.
Amy’s room was located at the far right end of the second floor. It was a single bedroom. They heard that she had not been assigned to her own quarters because she had just been admitted into the asylum. She might be moved to her designated place among the other patients in the next few days.
They were not sure if the Winston family had been to visit Amy since she was admitted. They found that her room was in a messy and run-down state. If her family still cared for her, they would never let her rot in such a messed up place.
When she saw Emily, Amy shrieked and went to hide at the corner of the room as if she had just had a horrible encounter with an evil spirit. “Ghost, ghost!”
Sally wanted to say something, but Emily dragged her and shoved her behind her back. Emily tilted her chin, and Sally understood what she meant. Sally shifted to the side of the door with Joe and Terry. Suddenly, the light was turned off.
It was day time, and the sunlight shone brightly into the room. Hence the lighting was unnecessary. However, the corner of the room was meant to store things. The corner was dark and damp, and it went dark after the light was turned off.
Amy was startled, and as she hid at the side of the bed, she shook uncontrollably. “Ghost, ghost. Argh… ghost!”
“Amy, do you still remember me?” She did not want her to scream continuously or to alert the staff, so Emily decided to fight a quick battle.
“You’re a ghost. You’re a ghost!” Amy went pale.
Her long and silky black hair was cut short by the staff for easier management. However, Amy still looked like a maniac even with the short hair because she was dirty and ugly.
Her glorious past had gone entirely. She used to be a charming young miss, but now she had totally succumbed to abjection. She had no one by her side as her friends and families had abandoned her. What a pity to have ended in such a miserable situation.
Emily did not go any closer to her; she spoke to her from a distance. “Tell me, who is your spy in the Mu family? Who told you about Vincent?”
Amy tried to reduce her visibility and retreated further into the corner. “Don’t touch me. Don’t come near me. Ghost, you’re a ghost! Go away. Go!”
“I’ll go after you tell me everything.” Emily’s face sank and went closer to Amy. Fear and nausea hit Amy as she stared blankly at Emily’s terrifying face!
“If you won’t tell, then I’ll haunt you forever. I won’t let you off even if I’m dead!”
“No! No! Don’t touch me! No!”
Amy squealed and wailed as Emily got nearer to her. Sally closed the door abruptly as she feared that the staff would hear her screams. The room was actually quite remote, and even the nurses were unwilling to go by there. However, if Amy screamed continuously, the nurses might drop by. Emily did not want to drag that on any longer, so she strode forward and clasped Amy’s wrist.
“Tell me! Who from the Mu family is keeping in touch with Wendy? Tell me!”
“Don’t touch me! Don’t… No…”
“I’ll hit you if you don’t tell me!”
“It’s Sarah. It’s the Eldest Madam!”
Amy was scared out of her wits. She tried to retreat further into the corner, but there was a wall on the other side of the bed, so she had nowhere to go.”
“It’s the Eldest Madam. She is evil, truly wicked… Don’t kill me, please don’t hit me. No, no!”
Sarah! How could it be Sarah?
Emily was dumbfounded. She was astonished to hear the name of the gentle Eldest Madam Mu, Sarah, from Amy. Sarah’s images flooded her mind instantly. She suffered many wrongs in the Mu family. Many of the young misses in the Jackson family would bully her, and the Eldest Master had never shown her any respect. He was never stingy with his blame and criticism. She had always been someone who had resigned herself to adversity. So, how could it be her?
“No. Don’t hit me! No!”
Amy was lost in tremors. Tears welled up in her eyes, and saliva dripped down from her chin.
“Don’t hit me. Mummy, I want my mummy… Please, I want mummy…” she sobbed.
Amy suddenly launched herself onto Emily. “Mummy! Mummy, help me. Mummy…”
Emily let go of her, and Amy slid onto the ground with a loud thud.
“Mummy, mummy…” Amy pleaded as she looked earnestly at Emily. It was as if she could not comprehend why her mom had abandoned her.
Emily had mixed feelings about the situation. Even though Amy was evil, her wretched condition showed that she had received her punishment. Emily no longer wanted to see Amy, so she turned to leave. Sally, Joe, and Terry trailed after her as they left the room.
As the four of them left the room, the staff led a well-dressed lady toward their direction. Both Emily and Wendy were surprised to see each other. Emily noticed the fruit hamper in Wendy’s hand. She did not expect such a wicked person would visit a cousin who was no longer useful to her. She thought more about it, and then she understood her intention.
“Are you here to check if she has really gone crazy?” she jeered.
Wendy wore a soft smile on her face. “Emily, you look well. I heard that you are back at Eldest Young Master Jackson’s mansion this morning. I found it hard to believe, at first.”
Wendy kept her gentle smile. Whoever saw her smile would believe that she was a kind and elegant woman.
“I wanted to visit you, but I thought you might need the rest since you’ve only gotten back this morning. I shall visit you tomorrow then.”
Wendy sized Emily up, and it seemed like she felt reassured after she saw that Emily was well.
“Now that I know you are okay, I don’t have to be worried anymore.”
Her hypocrisy almost made Sally throw up in disgust, but she completely bewitched the male employee by her side. The legendary Number One Enchantress in Bentson was a kind and lovely girl. Even though Emily was rude toward her, she remained gentle and welcoming to her sister. Therefore, the male employee was hostile toward Emily.
“Visiting time is over. Please leave now.”
A younger sister who was disrespectful to her older sister was not worth a polite treatment.
Sally was angered by how the employee spoke to them, and she wanted to say something about that. However, Emily had managed to pull her back.
Emily looked at Wendy and said with a smile, “Has she really gone crazy? I can’t be sure, but her mouth is rather useful sometimes.”
Wendy’s expression changed somewhat, but she quickly adjusted her emotions and sighed.
“No matter what, she is my younger cousin sister and your older cousin sister. Now that the Winston family no longer wants anything to do with her, you should visit her more often so that she won’t get lonely here.”
When Wendy walked past Emily, she suddenly leaned in, and whispered at a volume that only the two of them could hear, “I would advise you to be kind. Don’t be such an arrogant b*tch. Watch out; you would fall soon enough.”
