There was a notification from the cell phone inside her pocket. The ten thousand dollars had been paid.
Emily was in a good mood. She left the school gate and walked toward the hotel.
She was surprised to find out that the cell phone that Liam had given her was so expensive!
If a screen alone cost tens of thousands of dollars, then the price of the phone itself was surely unimaginable.
She did not know that such an expensive mobile phone had existed in the world.
Poverty had put a limit on her imagination. From her experience, ten thousand dollars was an extravagant number.
After what had happened, no one would believe her if she were to deny the rumor that a super-rich man supported her.
Once she had ordered some takeout from a small restaurant, she carried it in her hands and hastened her footsteps as she walked toward the hotel.
However, a familiar Maybach stopped at the hotel entrance as soon as she was near the building.
It was Eldest Young Master Jackson’s car! How could anyone overlook that hegemonic 8888 license plate?
Was he at the hotel in search of Terry?
Earlier that morning, she had called out Terry’s name while she was in a dream. Eldest Young Master Jackson had a fierce argument with her because of that, and it looked like he was looking for Tianyou.
Emily panicked and hurried toward the hotel just in time to see Terry got out of the car.
“Terry!” Terrified, she ran over to Terry and shielded him behind her.
She looked at Liam-who also got out of the car-and said anxiously, “Don’t hurt him!”
Liam looked stunned. “Young Madam, we…”
“What can you do if I insist on hurting him?”
The car window lowered to reveal a distinguished character who sat at the back seat of the car. His mannerisms always resembled royalty!
It was Hunter! What did he plan to do?
“I already said that Terry and I are just friends. Why are you so stubborn?”
To think that he would expand his search to the hotel!
Terry was still injured and could not possibly endure their bullying.
“Young Madam, it’s not what you think…”
“What then, if I insist on being stubborn?” The man in the car emanated an air of indifference. His cold eyes fell on her face without any trace of emotion.
Emily welcomed his gaze with the same frigidness, and she tightened her fists.
“Yes, Eldest Young Master Jackson is so high and mighty, so superior above everyone else! Always doing things according to his fancy!”
He was precisely that kind of person. He was no different than the Hunter from her past life!
He never cared for her words or her actions, nor did he ever have any trust in her!
Why did she still have such high hopes for him?
She clenched her fists, and her voice was cold as she stood firm! “I won’t just sit and watch if you were to hurt him!”
Hunter’s cold lips pursed into a cold straight line. “How will you sit and watch?”
Emily was so frightened by the coldness in his eyes that her fingertips tensed immediately. She wanted to say something else, but Terry tugged her gently from behind.
“Eldest Young Master Jackson invited me to lunch to express his gratitude for saving you last night.”
“Terry…”
“I’m telling the truth.” Terry nodded at her. The gentleness of his look could be felt by even Hunter, even though he was in the car.
“Drive,” Hunter ordered icily.
Liam glanced at him before he looked at Emily.
In the end, he had no choice but to get back into the car.
In a blink of an eye, the low-key Maybach disappeared at the end of the road.
Emily looked at the direction in which the car disappeared and was slightly flabbergasted.
If Terry did not take the plastic bag from her hand, she would not have snapped out of it.
“Let’s go inside.” The sun was too bright outside. Furthermore, they were in front of a hotel-it was not a place that was appropriate for a girl to be seen.
It might not have mattered if it were any other girl, but she was Eldest Young Master Jackson’s fiancée.
Terry took the food from her and walked into the hotel.
Emily recollected her senses and subsequently followed him into the hotel.
“Why the hell did he come looking for you?” After she closed the door, Emily looked at him and asked the big question that was on her mind.
She did not believe that it was as simple as a thank-you meal.
Her memory had not declined that tremendously. When Hunter left the room in the morning, he was still furious.
A good part of that anger was because of Terry.
“Did he threaten you?”
Terry sat down in the chair, glanced at her, and smiled abruptly. “Do I look like the kind of person who gets threatened easily?”
The only person who could threaten him was her, but she was unaware of that little fact.
“But…”
“Let’s eat first, aren’t you hungry?” He opened the bag and took the food out. “Should I leave some for Joe and Sally?”
“It’s fine. Those two can go out to get food themselves.”
They were not back yet, even though it was already late. Surely they would fill their hunger somewhere else?
“Terry…” Emily bit her lower lip and stopped talking.
“If it’s about Eldest Young Master Jackson, you don’t need to pry. All you need to know is that he did not do anything bad to me.”
He was afraid that she was still worried, so he raised his hand and gave her his word. “I promise.”
“As long as everything’s okay.” Emily felt a little disheartened.
The thought of what Hunter did to her in the morning played heavily in her mind.
Emily shivered and felt a chill! Just a simple thought about it made her blush and flustered!
He almost resembled Hunter…
“What’s wrong? What are you thinking about?” Terry looked at her. “You’re not going to eat?”
“Of course I’ll eat!” Why would she not eat? After she had managed to escape unscathed from that messy scene earlier that day, she was definitely hungry!
“Are you really not going to tell me why Eldest Young Master Jackson looked for you?”
“I’ll tell you when it’s appropriate.”
“Wow, how mysterious!” Emily rolled her eyes at him.
Even though Terry seemed to listen to her most of the time, he would never change his decision if it involved his principles, especially on things that he felt were not right.
When two people ate their fill of food, Terry suddenly asked, “What are you going to do after two years? Will you marry Eldest Young Master Jackson?”
Emily was eighteen years old. According to Bentson’s Marriage Act, one had to be twenty years old to get married.
She would reach that age in another two years.
“Of course not.” Emily played around with a piece of edamame and replied casually, “I might not even be able to endure it for another two years.”
The agreement might be terminated at any time if Eldest Young Master Jackson were unhappy with her.
“Endure?” Terry frowned. It was rather odd to use that word. “Are you not happy with Eldest Young Master Jackson?”
“Would you be happy if you have to face such a cold and scary person every day?”
Terry kept quiet, but Emily’s words did not sound unconvincing.
Had she made up her mind not to marry Eldest Young Master Jackson?
“He’s really not for me. Or, rather, I’m not the right person for him.”
Otherwise, she would not have regretted it so deeply when she could not absolve herself of her fate in her previous life.
Emily and Eldest Young Master Jackson were nothing more than two threads entangled for some random reason. Once the knot was undone, there was nothing to link them again.
“Two years will pass by quickly anyway.” Some things were better left unsaid.
Terry was about to say something else when a knock came at the door.
Emily went to answer it.
As soon as Sally entered the room, she began to yell, “That Amy is so shameless! Emily, look! How could such an abominable woman exist in this world?”
