“This matter… perhaps we should just let it go.” Emily whispered to Hunter after they got into the car.
Eldest Young Master switched on his notebook and immediately got busy again. He had decided to ignore her, and Emily felt a little discouraged at that. No one could change his decisions once he had made them.
“Young Madam, they had been disrespectful to you, so they deserve the punishment.” Liam smiled at her from the rearview mirror as he drove.
Emily pursed her lips. “Still, they are part of the Jackson family.”
She was neither soft-hearted nor something as pure as a white lotus. She did not want to stir a storm since she was a new member of the family. Furthermore, Emily had always been a low-profile person. As long as no one challenged her, she preferred to stay away from conflicts.
“Eldest Young Master Jackson, I just worry that it would alarm Grandmother. You know that her health is not good.”
“No one would dare to trouble her.” He had a way to handle those who dared to gossip.
“I just think that there is no need for a girl to go to prison for something so petty.” Furthermore, it was something that could ruin one’s future. More importantly, she did not think that Vanessa was that loathsome.
“A dog that barks doesn’t bite.” She looked at Hunter, and said softly, “Someone like Vanessa can’t do anything too bad.” The silent Rosy could probably do worse.
“Young Madam, Eldest Young Master is just …”
“It’s up to you.” Hunter’s long fingers fell on the laptop keyboard, which implied that it was the end of the matter. He wanted nothing to do with any decisions that they were to make after that. It also did not bother Liam that much. It was just a petty argument between a few women. If Eldest Young Master wanted to let the matter rest, then he would oblige.
“Young Madam, shall I stop them now?”
“No, let her stay at the police station for a while. I’ll drop the prosecution later.”
Some people needed to be taught a lesson. Otherwise, they would be blinded by their acts.
Perhaps someone like Vanessa would begin to learn and discern right from wrong after the unfavorable situation.
Liam could not help but peek at her from the rearview mirror. He was not sure why, but he seemed to have gotten used to the young madam’s appearance. However, she still did not look attractive to him. He even thought that the young madam’s facial features were rather good-looking. Her wisdom was comparable to Eldest Young Master.
“Liam, look out!” Emily suddenly exclaimed.
Liam turned his eyes back onto the road again. With a turn of the steering wheel, he managed to avoid running into the truck from the opposite direction.
Gosh! What had he been thinking? He had actually stared at Young Madam through the rearview mirror. He shuddered at the thought of what would happen if Eldest Young Master knew about that.
About twenty minutes later, the car entered the main gate of Jackson ‘s mansion. Then they drove down a long tree-lined avenue before they stopped at the courtyard in front of the main house.
Emily was still a little nervous when she got out of the car. She was about to see Vincent soon. I wonder how he is now?
Would her new life be different from her previous life?
After the infamous event at the engagement party in her past life, she isolated herself at the Gale’s villa for a long time. She shut herself behind closed doors to ponder about her mistake.
She did not know how much time had passed until Eldest Young Master Jackson decided to accept her again due to Old Madam Jackson ‘s kindness.
In her past life, Vincent had returned to the family home at the end of the year. In her new life, however, he turned up a few months earlier. The trajectories of the two experiences were so different that no one could figure things out from her memories alone. In other words, she could not guess what would happen next, and of course, she could not figure out what to do next as well.
She thought that it was better to let things unfold naturally. All she wanted to know was Vincent’s condition at that moment.
The Jackson’s old butler greeted them before he led Hunter and Emily personally into the hall. Even though it was nearly time for the family’s dinner, the room was unusually quiet. Everyone waited at the banquet hall, but the old master and the old madam were still seated in the hall.
A young man sat next to Old Madam Jackson. He was tall and lanky; he was probably about 188 centimeters in height. He had beautiful facial features and a little melancholy in his quiet temperament.
Some would say that his handsome look appeared unworldly. He looked like an image in a painting as he sat on the sofa. No one could forge him at first sight.
As soon as Emily entered the door, the figure on the sofa caught her attention when she looked up.
She was spellbound with just a glance. She stared at his quiet and indifferent face, and she could no longer avert her gaze.
She had finally seen Vincent! A Vincent who was vibrant and full of life!
The last image of him had haunted her mind. He had laid in her arms as he bled profusely. She nearly cried as a sense of sorrow overwhelmed her.
“Young Madam…” Liam looked at Emily, who stood motionless at the door. As he followed her sight, he realized that she was gawking at Third Young Master.
The young madam looked so intently at the third young master, and her eyes appeared red. Was that… Was that appropriate?
Eldest Young Master was there with them!
Hunter glanced briefly at the girl next to him and then walked toward the sofa. Liam, however, could see that the eldest young master… He was not in a good mood!
“Young Madam!” He had to intensify his tone to remind her. The third young master was really good-looking, and he looked like a prince as he sat there quietly.
However, Eldest Young Master looked just as fine too!
The young madam seemed to be a bit excessive. She had such a handsome fiancé that all the girls in Bentson wanted, and yet she was obsessed with another man. Liam felt a little frustrated on behalf of his eldest young master!
Finally, Emily realized her impertinence and quickly averted her eyes as she marched behind Hunter.
“Grandfather, Grandmother.” Hunter approached the two elders. His tone was habitually indifferent, but he bore a bit of meekness toward the old madam.
“Old Master, Grandmother.” Emily also greeted them politely.
It seemed inappropriate for her to call one Grandmother and the other, Old Master. However, it was even more improper to address him as Grandfather as she had not married into the family.
The old master was not someone approachable. He was always disgusted by those who tried too hard to get close to him.
“Emily, you’re here.” The old madam was a different case. She liked Emily very much. She took Emily’s hand and guided her into the seat next to her. Then the old madam looked at Vincent with a smile on her face.
“She is your future sister-in-law, Hunter’s fiancée, Emily. Emily, this is Hunter’s third brother, Vincent.”
“Vincent…” Emily’s thin lips trembled slightly.
She was overwhelmed with joy when she could see him with her own eyes and utter his name with her own lips.
She was so nervous that she was lost for words. She could only look at him and hoped to listen to him again, even if it was as simple as him speaking to her again.
Vincent seemed to be a little resistant to her stares. He exuded a chilly air as he said, “Hi.”
Emily did not respond. She could hear him again, and that was enough for her. Vincent was alive; that was all that mattered.
Hunter’s deep and familiar voice echoed from behind her. “You know him?”
