Chapter 86
Emily sat in her car outside the hospital, watching as Andrianne entered the building. She couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy and anger. It wasn’t fair that Andrianne got to have Lucas all to herself, while she was stuck with the knowledge of their affair and an unwanted pregnancy.
But Emily wasn’t going to let Andrianne have Lucas all to herself anymore. She had to find a way to make him choose her too. She took a deep breath and got out of her car, making her way into the hospital.
As she walked towards the antenatal clinic, she spotted Andrianne sitting in the waiting area. Emily’s heart sank as she realized she had no idea what to say or do. She decided to just sit a few seats away from Andrianne and pretended not to notice her.
Andrianne, who was lost in thought, suddenly felt a presence beside her. She looked up and was surprised to see Emily sitting so close to her.
“Oh, hi Emily,” Andrianne said, trying to sound friendly.
“Hi Andrianne,” Emily replied, trying to sound casual. “What are you doing here?”
“I have my antenatal appointment,” Andrianne said, confused. “What about you?”
“I have a friend who works here,” Emily lied, trying to come up with an excuse. “I just thought I’d stop by and say hello.”
Andrianne nodded, not believing a word of it. She had a feeling that Emily was up to something, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was.
The two women sat in silence for a few minutes, both lost in their own thoughts. Andrianne was thinking about her mother and how she could get justice for her, while Emily was thinking about how to get Lucas to choose her over Andrianne.
Suddenly, Andrianne’s name was called and she stood up to follow the nurse into the examination room. Emily watched her go, feeling a sense of satisfaction. She knew she had won this round.
As Andrianne lay on the examination table, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Emily was up to something. She tried to push the thought out of her head and focus on the task at hand, but it was easier said than done.
After the appointment was over, Andrianne headed back to her car. As she was about to open the door, she heard someone call her name.
“Andrianne!”
She turned around to see Emily walking towards her.
“I just wanted to say congratulations,” Emily said, a fake smile plastered on her face.
“Thank you,” Andrianne replied, trying not to sound rude.
“I hope everything goes well with the baby,” Emily continued. “You’re very lucky to have Lucas by your side.”
Andrianne’s heart sank as she realized what Emily was trying to do. She was trying to make her feel insecure about her relationship with Lucas.
“I know I am,” Andrianne said, her voice cracking with emotion. “He’s a wonderful husband.”
Emily’s smile faded as she realized her plan had failed. She decided to retreat and try again another time.
“Well, I have to go,” Emily said, turning on her heel. “Take care of yourself, Andrianne.”
Andrianne watched as Emily walked away, feeling relieved but also worried about what she might try next. She knew she had to be careful.
Andrianne arrived at Jackie’s clinic and parked her car in the lot. She saw Jackie waiting by the entrance, dressed in her scrubs. Andrianne got out of her car and greeted her friend with a smile.
“Hey Jackie, how are you doing?” Andrianne asked.
“I’m doing well, thanks for asking. How about you? How’s the pregnancy going?” Jackie replied.
“I’m doing fine. The baby is healthy and growing,” Andrianne said, placing her hand on her belly.
“That’s great to hear. Have you had any complications?” Jackie inquired.
“No, everything has been going smoothly so far,” Andrianne responded.
“That’s good. So, what brings you here today?” Jackie asked.
Andrianne paused for a moment before answering. She debated whether to tell Jackie about Emily’s unexpected visit at the hospital, but decided against it. Instead, she changed the subject.
“I was just in the neighborhood and thought I’d stop by and say hi,” Andrianne said with a smile.
Jackie grinned. “Well, I’m glad you did. I was actually hoping you could give me a ride home.”
“Of course, no problem. Let’s get going,” Andrianne said, leading the way to her car.
As they drove, Andrianne couldn’t help but think about Emily and her unexpected appearance at the hospital. She was still unsure whether to tell Lucas about it or not. Andrianne trusted Jackie’s judgement, so she decided to ask for her opinion.
“Hey, Jackie, can I ask you something?” Andrianne said.
“Sure, anything,” Jackie replied.
“Earlier today, I ran into someone I didn’t expect to see at the hospital. She’s someone I’d rather not have anything to do with. I’m not sure if I should tell Lucas about it or just let it go,” Andrianne said.
Jackie’s face contorted into a look of concern. “Who was it?”
“It was Emily, Lucas’ ex-girlfriend. She said she was there for a check-up, but I don’t know if I believe her,” Andrianne said.
Jackie’s expression softened. “I see. And how did she act towards you?”
Andrianne sighed. “She acted like everything was normal. Like we were just old friends catching up. But I could tell she was trying to get under my skin.”
Jackie nodded. “Well, it’s understandable why you’re hesitant to tell Lucas. But I think it’s important to be honest with him. Secrets have a way of coming out eventually and it’s better if they come from you rather than someone else.”
Andrianne sighed again. “You’re right. I just don’t want to cause any drama or unnecessary stress.”
“I understand that, but you have to prioritize your own peace of mind,” Jackie said.
Andrianne nodded in agreement. “Thanks, Jackie. You always know what to say.”
Jackie smiled. “That’s what I’m here for. Now, let’s focus on getting me home so I can take a nap before my next patient.”
Andrianne chuckled, grateful for her friend’s calming presence. As they continued to chat and joke, Andrianne couldn’t help but feel a little more at ease about the situation with Emily. She decided she would tell Lucas about it that night and hope for the best.
