CH 84.
It was a beautiful Saturday morning, the sun was shining bright and the birds were chirping outside. Lucas woke up early, feeling restless as he had been for the past few weeks. He got out of bed and slipped on his robe, walking quietly to the kitchen. He decided to make breakfast for Andrianne, hoping to surprise her and make her happy.
Lucas started by brewing a pot of coffee, the rich aroma filling the kitchen. He then pulled out some eggs, bacon, and bread, and began cooking. As he cooked, his mind couldn’t help but drift to Emily and the baby she was carrying. He couldn’t believe he was going to be a father again, but this time with a woman he didn’t love.
As he was finishing up the cooking, he heard Andrianne stir in the bedroom. He quickly set the table, making sure everything was perfect. When Andrianne walked into the kitchen, she was surprised to see Lucas there, cooking breakfast.
“Good morning, love,” he said with a smile, trying to hide the turmoil inside him.
Andrianne smiled back, “Good morning, Lucas. This is a nice surprise, did you make all of this?”
Lucas nodded, “Yes, I wanted to do something special for you today.”
Andrianne walked over to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek, “Thank you, it smells delicious.”
Lucas felt a small moment of peace, happy to have made her happy. They sat down at the table and enjoyed their breakfast together, chatting about their plans for the day.
After breakfast, they decided to go for a walk in the park. The weather was perfect for it, the sun was shining and the temperature was just right. They strolled through the park, holding hands and enjoying each other’s company.
As they walked, Lucas couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt that had been weighing on him for the past few weeks. He knew he had to tell Andrianne about Emily and the baby, but he didn’t know how or when. He didn’t want to hurt her, especially with the baby on the way.
Andrianne noticed Lucas’s distraction and asked, “Is everything okay, Lucas?”
Lucas sighed, “Yeah, everything’s fine. I’m just thinking about work, that’s all.”
Andrianne gave him a knowing look, but didn’t press the matter. They continued walking in silence, enjoying the peacefulness of the park.
As they walked, they came across a group of children playing a game of soccer. Andrianne smiled, “Do you want to join in?”
Lucas laughed, “I don’t know, I haven’t played soccer in years.”
Andrianne took his hand, “Come on, it’ll be fun.”
Lucas couldn’t resist her charm, so he joined in the game. They played for a while, laughing and enjoying themselves. It was a nice break from the stress and worry that had been weighing on Lucas’s mind.
As they walked back home, Andrianne turned to Lucas, “Thank you for making today special. I had a really good time.”
Lucas smiled, “Anything for you, love.”
But even as he said the words, he knew that he had to tell her the truth about Emily and the baby. He couldn’t keep the secret any longer, it was eating him alive. But he didn’t know how or when to do it, so for now, he kept quiet and enjoyed the rest of their Saturday together.
Lucas was caught off guard when he received a call from his father inviting him and Andrianne to the mansion for dinner. He was hesitant at first, not sure if he was ready to face his father yet after everything that had happened. But he knew he couldn’t keep avoiding him forever.
He decided to talk to Andrianne about it, hoping she would agree to go with him. She was sitting on the couch watching TV when he walked in.
“Babe, my father just called. He wants us to have dinner with him tonight at the mansion,” he said, taking a seat beside her.
Andrianne looked at him curiously. “Really? What did he say?”
“He just said that he wants to talk to us about something important. I don’t know what it’s about, but I have a feeling it’s not going to be good.”
Andrianne nodded understandingly. “Okay, we can go. Maybe it’s something we need to hear.”
Lucas felt relieved that Andrianne agreed to go with him. He knew it wouldn’t be an easy evening, but he was glad he wouldn’t have to face his father alone.
They arrived at the mansion a little before 7 pm. Lucas parked the car and they both got out. As they approached the front door, Lucas hesitated for a moment before ringing the doorbell.
The door opened and they were greeted by the butler, William. “Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood. Please, come in.”
He led them to the dining room where Lucas’ father was waiting for them. He stood up as they entered and greeted them with a warm smile.
“Lucas, Andrianne. It’s good to see you both,” he said, shaking their hands.
Lucas couldn’t help but feel nervous as they sat down at the table. He had no idea what his father wanted to talk about, but he had a feeling it wasn’t going to be good news.
After a few minutes of small talk, Lucas’ father finally got to the point.
“I’ve asked you both here tonight because I wanted to talk to you about something important. Andrianne, I know you’re expecting a baby, and I want to make sure that my grandchild has a secure future.”
Lucas and Andrianne exchanged confused glances. “What do you mean, sir?” Lucas asked.
“I mean that I want to set up a trust fund for the baby. I know it’s not something that’s usually done in our family, but I think it’s the right thing to do. I want to make sure that the baby is taken care of, no matter what happens.”
Lucas was surprised by his father’s offer. He had always been distant and cold towards him, so this sudden show of concern was unexpected.
“Thank you, sir,” Lucas said, grateful for the offer.
Andrianne smiled. “That’s very kind of you, Father. We appreciate it.”
Lucas’ father nodded. “It’s the least I could do. I know I haven’t been the best father to you, Lucas, but I want to make things right. I hope this is a step in the right direction.”
Lucas felt a sense of relief wash over him. Maybe his father was finally ready to accept him and Andrianne into the family.
As they finished up their dinner, Lucas couldn’t help but feel grateful for the unexpected turn of events. He knew that things were far from perfect, but maybe this was a sign that they were moving in the right direction.
