CH 65.
Lucas finished up the last of his meetings for the day, his mind still preoccupied with the phone call he received earlier. As he stepped out of his office building, he noticed his chauffeur standing by the car, ready to take his briefcase and open the door for him.
“Thank you, James,” Lucas said, as he handed his briefcase to the driver and slipped into the backseat of his luxurious car. He leaned his head back against the headrest, trying to calm the anxious thoughts racing through his mind.
James opened the car door and a squeezed note fell out, Lucas felt a shiver run down his spine as he saw the note on the ground. He quickly picked it up, his heart racing with fear and uncertainty. He read the words on the paper: “We’re watching you”. He couldn’t understand who could be watching him, or why.
He glanced around the parking lot but couldn’t see anyone who looked suspicious. He felt vulnerable and exposed, wondering if he was being followed or if someone was trying to threaten him. He thought of his wife Andrianne and wondered if she was safe. He knew that he had to be careful and vigilant.
The car ride was smooth, with the sound of the engine hum and the quiet whir of the wheels on the road. Lucas glanced out of the tinted window, watching the cityscape blur past him as the car made its way through the bustling streets. His mind was elsewhere, though, focused on the call he received earlier from the unknown number.
He couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that was settling into his bones. What if the police traced Steve’s death back to Andrianne? Would she be arrested? Would their lives be ruined? Lucas couldn’t bear the thought of losing his wife, his partner, his everything.
As the car pulled up in front of his mansion, Lucas stepped out, taking in the grandeur of the place he called home. He felt a sense of comfort wash over him as he walked up to the door, knowing that Andrianne would be waiting for him inside.
Once inside, he kicked off his shoes and walked into the living room, where Andrianne was sitting on the sofa, a book in her hands. She looked up at him and smiled warmly, and Lucas felt his heart swell with love for her.
“Hey, how was work?” she asked, setting her book aside and standing up to give him a hug.
Lucas wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly, savoring the warmth and comfort of her embrace. “It was fine,” he replied, his voice laced with tension.
Andrianne pulled away slightly, looking at him with concern. “Is everything okay? You seem worried.”
Lucas hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should tell her about the phone call. He decided against it, not wanting to worry her unnecessarily. “It’s just work stuff,” he said, offering her a reassuring smile.
Andrianne seemed to accept his explanation, and they spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing over dinner. But as Lucas lay in bed that night, staring up at the ceiling, he knew that the sense of unease would not leave him anytime soon.
Andrianne snuggled up close to her husband, feeling the warmth of his body radiating against hers. She wrapped her arm around his chest, and softly nuzzled her face into his neck. She could smell his cologne, and it sent shivers down her spine.
As she kissed his neck, she felt Lucas stir slightly, and she smiled to herself. She knew he was tired, but she couldn’t help herself. She loved the feel of his skin against hers, and the way his body responded to her touch.
She continued to kiss his neck, her lips tracing soft, delicate patterns across his skin. She felt Lucas’s hand move to her hair, and he began to run his fingers through it.
Andrianne’s kisses became more urgent, more passionate, and she felt Lucas respond in kind. His hand tightened in her hair, and he turned his head to kiss her deeply on the lips.
“I love you, Andrianne,” Lucas said softly.
“And I love you too, Lucas,” Andrianne replied with a smile.
They both knew that the past few weeks had been filled with fear and uncertainty, but they were committed to being there for each other no matter what. Lucas leaned in and kissed her lips gently, savoring the moment.
“I want to be with you for the rest of my life, Andrianne. I don’t care about the contract or anything else. I just want you,” Lucas whispered, his voice filled with emotion.
Andrianne felt a wave of happiness wash over her. She had never imagined that she would feel this way about someone, but Lucas had captured her heart. She took his face in her hands and looked into his eyes.
“I feel the same way, Lucas. I want to be your wife in every sense of the word. I want to love and support you through everything, and I know you’ll do the same for me,” Andrianne said with conviction.
Lucas smiled and pulled her close, feeling her warmth against his body. They both knew that they had a lot to work through, but they were determined to make their relationship work.
“I promise to be there for you always, Andrianne. No matter what happens, we’ll face it together,” Lucas said, his voice filled with love and reassurance.
Andrianne felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. She knew that she had found the love of her life, and she felt lucky to have Lucas by her side. She leaned in and kissed him again, feeling a sense of peace and contentment wash over her.
As they lay in each other’s arms, they both knew that they had a bright future ahead of them. They were no longer just contracted spouses, but real couples who had found love in the most unexpected place.
