Chapter 27.
Lucas was boiling with anger as Andrianne gave him the cold shoulder. He couldn’t believe how she could be so nonchalant about her actions, especially after he had been so worried about her the previous night. As he stood there staring at her, his fists clenched tightly, she simply shrugged and told him that she was a grown adult, capable of taking care of herself.
With that, she walked away from him and he watched as she walked into her room without a second glance back. Lucas stood there for a moment, his mind racing with anger and frustration. He couldn’t understand how she could be so dismissive of his feelings.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down, but the anger only seemed to grow. He decided that he needed to get out of the house and clear his head. Without another word, he stormed out of the door, slamming it behind him.
The sound of the door slamming echoed through the house, causing Andrianne to flinch. She knew that she had hurt Lucas with her dismissive attitude, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. She was still reeling from the events of the previous night and she just wanted to be left alone.
As Lucas got into his car, he felt a sense of relief wash over him. He knew that he needed to focus on work and get his mind off of Andrianne. He started the car and sped out of the driveway, his mind still racing with anger and frustration.
The drive to the office was a blur as Lucas’s mind continued to race. He couldn’t shake the anger and hurt that he was feeling, and he knew that it was going to take a long time to get over it. When he finally arrived at the office, he parked his car and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
As he walked through the doors of the office, his mind was still reeling. He tried to focus on his work, but every time he closed his eyes, he saw Andrianne’s face, filled with indifference and apathy. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he had lost her, and that thought made him feel even angrier.
Despite his anger and frustration, Lucas knew that he needed to focus on work. He sat down at his desk and tried to lose himself in his work, but the events of the previous night kept creeping into his thoughts, distracting him and making it difficult to concentrate.
Lucas was sitting at his desk, his mind still preoccupied with the fight he had with Andrianne earlier that morning. As he was lost in thought, the door to his office opened and Emily walked in. She looked stunning in a navy blue pencil skirt and a crisp white blouse that was tucked in neatly. Her long, wavy hair was styled in a loose bun, which only added to her professional demeanor.
“Good morning, Lucas,” Emily said as she walked towards him. “I brought the files you asked for.” She handed him the file and stood before him, her arms crossed over her chest.
Lucas took the file from her and placed it on his desk. He stood up, walked around his desk, and pulled her into his arms. Emily was surprised by his sudden move, but she didn’t resist.
“I’m sorry about earlier,” Lucas said, looking into her eyes. “I didn’t mean to snap at you. It’s just that I had a fight with Andrianne this morning, and it’s been bothering me all day.”
“Oh, I see,” Emily said, trying hard to conceal the smirk that was creeping up at the corner of her lips.
As she was about to leave, Lucas pulled her back and kissed her passionately. Emily was surprised at first, but she gave in to the kiss, letting her guard down. The two of them broke apart, both of them breathing heavily.
As Emily basked in the warmth of Lucas’s embrace, she couldn’t help but feel happy that they had finally made up. It had been a rough patch for them lately, and she was relieved that they were on good terms again.
“You know I love you, right?” Lucas whispered in her ear, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist.
Emily nodded, a smile spreading across her face. “I know, Lucas. I love you too.”
Lucas leaned in to kiss her, but Emily pulled away, suddenly serious. “Lucas, I need to ask you something.”
“What is it, Em?”
“I want you to divorce Andrianne,” she said firmly.
Lucas’s expression darkened. “Emily, you know that’s not possible. We’re not getting a divorce.”
“Why not? You’re not happy with her, and I know you’re not in love with her anymore. You’re in love with me,” Emily argued.
Lucas shook his head. “It’s not that simple, Em. We have a lot of history together, and I can’t just throw that away. Besides, I still care about her. She’s going through a tough time right now, and I don’t want to make things even harder for her.”
Emily felt her anger rising. “So, you’re just going to stay married to her even though you don’t love her? That’s not fair to either of us.”
Lucas sighed. “I know it’s not ideal, but we’ll figure something out. Just give me some time, okay?”
Emily’s face flushed with anger as she listened to Lucas’s objections to her suggestion. “What do you mean you can’t divorce her?!” she practically shouted at him.
Lucas tried to calm her down, “Emily, I know you’re upset, but you have to understand that it’s not that simple. Andrianne and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t just throw all of that away.”
Emily wasn’t having any of it. “What about us, Lucas? Don’t you care about us? You promised me that you would leave her, that we would be together. And now you’re telling me that you can’t even do that?”
Lucas sighed, “I do care about you, Emily, you know that. But you have to understand that this is a complicated situation. I need more time to figure things out.”
Emily shook her head, “No, Lucas, I’m tired of waiting. I’m tired of being the other woman, the one you come to when you’re not happy with your wife. I deserve more than that.”
Lucas tried to reach out and touch her, but she pulled away. “Emily, please don’t be like this. I need you, I love you.”
Emily’s eyes narrowed, “Love? Is that what you call it? You don’t love me, Lucas, you love the idea of being with me. But you don’t have the guts to actually make it happen.”
With that, Emily stormed out of his office, leaving Lucas standing there, feeling confused and frustrated. He knew that Emily had a point, but he didn’t know what to do about it. He had always felt torn between his love for Andrianne and his desire for Emily, and now it seemed like he was going to have to make a choice.
