Luacs knew Elena well. After two years together, he had known her even better. When they say Michael that day, he already knew that she wanted to run again.
“He had found his way here. Where else can we go?”
Elena did think that she wanted to escape. She wanted to flee to a place where Michael would never find her. However, it was not easy after he knew where she was. Besides, how far could she go with her two kids?
“Don’t think too much. I’ll be by your side, no matter what.” Luacs gently hugged her in his arms.
“It’s okay. I don’t have feelings for that man anymore. Garcia Corporation’s crisis had long been resolved. Even if he comes, it will not affect me.”
She said that to comfort Luacs and herself. Luacs nodded. He wanted to say something, but he did not know whether he should say it. He seldom hesitated, so Elena looked at him. “Is there something you wanted to say?”
“They’ve not arrested Ava yet.”
Elena was taken aback. She did not know what to say for a while.
Luacs’s voice was soft. “The Garcia family have never stopped looking for you. They put their minds off Ava because they focused their attention on you.”
“Didn’t they call the police?” As long as they reported to the police, they would continue to look for her.
“Maybe she’s no longer in Bentson or City L?”
“Probably not. Everyone didn’t put much thought on her. The police did look for her, but they couldn’t find her.”
Luacs told her because he wanted to tell her something else. He did not know why he told her those things. It served no benefits to him, but he thought Elena should know about it.
“Both Garcia Corporation and Williams Corporation were working together. The two companies had many big projects under development. Michael even took over the project that Fifth Young Master Williams was handling.”
Elena said nothing; she did not want to know about Michael. She knew that Luacs told her that because it was related to her. Luacs looked at the sky in the distance, and his voice was light. “I heard that he gave Porter five percent of shares to Williams Corporation to take over the project.”
Elena’s fingers tightened their grasps on the railing. Five percent! She knew how much those five percent of shares were worth! It was enough for a family to live in luxury for ten lifetimes! He had given up five percent of his shares so that he could help Garcia Corporation. That man was a lunatic!
“Then Garcia… Garcia Corporation’s project…”
“The contract was terminated peacefully.” That was what Luacs wanted to say.
Michael gave away five percent of his shares for Garcia Corporation. He did that for Elena, not so much for Garcia Corporation. Even though Luacs did not want Elena to have any more connection with Michael, he thought she should know about it. He wanted her to make an informed choice; he was used to guarding and protecting her discreetly.
He had confessed his feelings because Caleb had suggested it. Perhaps he had drunk too much that night and acted rashly. He hoped that Elena could be happy. If she were happy with him, then he would persist no matter his opponent. However, if Elena was not happy, then he did not want to put her in an awkward position.
“I’m going to see the two children. You should rest early.”
Elena remained silent. Luacs looked at her for a long time before he turned to leave. The moment he turned, she grabbed his hand.
“Luacs, don’t you want to be with me? Why are you telling me this?”
“Your heart is all messed up, so don’t force yourself.” Luacs grabbed her hand in return. He held it for a brief moment before he let it go.
“Luacs!” She did not want to choose, because she should not be the one to choose. So, he should not give her the right to choose; she did not want it!
Luacs smiled. He brushed her long hair lovingly. His tone did not match his cold appearance; it was soft and gentle.
“I didn’t want to force you to do anything. I just hope that you can live as you wish, Elena. I will support you in whatever you decide to do.”
Then he left. He walked into the hall and then went to see the children. Elena was perturbed. What Michael did for her had exceeded her expectations. Luacs could easily choose not to tell her, but he did anyway. She held her head in her hands and closed her eyes.
She told herself not to think about it, not to think about the man who had appeared thin, depressed, and tired. She did not want to think about it!
She had her children, and she had Luacs! Perhaps they should move, not to escape, just for a change of environment.
Elena stood on the balcony for a long time before she made up her mind. She did not want to stay in City N any longer. As soon as she walked into the house, she saw Luacs as he came out of the children’s room.
He had answered a call, and he spoke in a hushed tone. Elena decided to watch him by the side of the hall. It looked like it was a call from Luacs’s company, and it had sounded urgent. Soon, Luacs hung up the call and looked at her.
“Is it something urgent from the company?” Elena asked.
“Hmm.” Luacs nodded. “Mr. Moses was attacked tonight. Our men were injured, so the company wanted me to escort him back to his country.”
“Will it be dangerous?” Elena had heard about Mr. Moses, and if Luacs’s colleagues were injured on the job, then perhaps it was a dangerous job.
“If I tell you that it is not dangerous working in the security service, would you believe it?”
Luacs did not want to lie to her because he knew he could not hide the truth. Besides, he would be uneasy if he did not tell her the truth. He had never believed in white lies anyway.
“Don’t worry. I know that my wife and children are waiting for me at home, so I will take good care of myself.”
As a man, his family was his greatest responsibility. Elena nodded. She helped him to pack his luggage and send him to the door.
She was a little uneasy. “Be careful.”
“Yeah.” Luacs knew he had to leave, but he found it extremely difficult to do so that night.
He pulled Elena into an embrace. Then, he planted a kiss on her forehead. “Wait for me.”
