Francis went to Elena too. Even though he was not as close to her as his elder cousin brother, he was also Elena’s cousin. He had the responsibility to protect his younger cousin sister too.
“We’ll just start over again if we lose Garcia Corporation. What’s the big deal?”
He took Elena’s hand and smiled sincerely at her. “Don’t worry. Do you think our family will starve to death?”
Francis was right. They would not starve, so why should they be afraid? Even if they lost Garcia Corporation, they still had his company. If he were to lose his company as well, then they would just have to use their hands and feet to make a living. Perhaps they would no longer live in luxury, but they would not let the women in their family suffer. He believed in his and Joseph’s abilities.
“Let’s go.” Joseph grasped Elena’s shoulders. His voice was so soft and gentle when he said, “Don’t be afraid; we are here with you.”
Elena was very touched by their words, and so she nodded and walked toward the door with them. Michael did not stop them, nor did he have the right to do them. After they left, Levi went to close the door with hesitance.
The moment he turned around, Eldest Young Master Williams was already at the table as he poured himself a glass of red wine. The cigarette in his hand had almost burned out, but Michael still took a deep puff out of it.
“Eldest Young Master.” Levi hesitated briefly before he softly asked, “Will you not intervene in the issue with Fifth Young Master?”
The Garcia family was in a mess. Joseph would not be able to resolve the agreement that Ava signed with Porter in a short period. If they were to cancel the deal, it would not be good for either company. Levi knew that Michael resented Old Master Garcia, but he cared for Elena. He was stuck between love and hate for those two people. He might not be able to repair the damage if he took a wrong step.
“Eldest Young Master Williams…”
“Get out.” Michael looked inhospitably cold, and so did his command. Levi had no choice but to sigh deeply before he turned to leave.
Before he left, he decided to risk his eldest young master’s anger and said, “I just don’t want to see you regret it in the future.”
Michael snorted coldly and acted as if he did not pay any attention to him. Regret? Michael never knew the meaning of regret. That was simply impossible! He had given the girl a chance. As long as she agreed to stay with him, he would not pursue his revenge on Old Master Garcia.
He was not interested in Garcia Corporation’s crisis. He only wanted to take Elena with him to Bentson. He thought he would let go of the past, but he decided that it was a ridiculously impulsive thought.
He would never let things go so easily! He would return the hurt that his grandmother had suffered by ten folds at the Garcia family! He wanted Garcia Corporation to go bankrupt, and he also wanted to humiliate Old Master Garcia and send him into prison! He would not spare those who hurt his grandmother! Absolutely not!
…
Elena shivered; the sudden chilliness in the air came so suddenly, and it made her uncomfortable.
“What’s the matter?” Francis, who sat beside her, saw the trembles in her body, and he immediately took off his coat to put it on her. He felt guilty about when he saw that her clothes had been torn to shreds.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have told you about the situation.”
“Yes, you shouldn’t!” Joseph was still very angry with his younger cousin brother. “Do we need the women at home to worry about this?”
Francis knew that he had made a mistake, and so he kept quiet.
Elena looked at Joseph. “Brother Joseph, do you have a better way to solve the problem now?”
“I will continue to contact the shareholders to see if they would help me for Grandfather’s sake.”
Elena did not ask any more questions. Joseph was trapped in the situation with no way out. Not only did he have to face Porter and Ava in that mess, but he might also need to deal with Williams Corporation’s CEO, Michael. If that man decided to get involved in the mayhem, Garcia Corporation would not stand a chance.
“Grandfather will wake up soon.” She lowered her head and grabbed her coat.
“Don’t tell Grandfather about tonight. I don’t think he’ll be able to take it.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll take Ava to court when Grandfather wakes up.” Francis snorted in resentment.
However, Joseph did not agree with him. He had not figured out a way to settle the problem between himself and Elena. Ava might expose them if they were to push her into a corner. Joseph was worried that Elena would buckle under the public’s pressure.
Elena did not speak either; she focused her attention out the window to look at the night scenery. The wind was icy, and so was her heart.
…
Old Master Garcia woke up on the second night, and it was earlier than they had expected.
Even though he was awake, he was confused and could not recognize the people around him. The doctor said that it was a kind of stroke, and it would take time for him to recover. It did not look as if he was in the condition to do anything about Ava. “Don’t pressure him; let his rest.”
All Elena cared about was her grandfather’s well-being. It was all that mattered to her. As she fed her grandfather some porridge, she said, “Let’s talk about these things later.”
Joseph said nothing. Even though Lottie and Sasha were anxious, they remained silent. They would wait for their father’s health to get better before they discussed the problem.
It was already late, so Lottie and Sasha returned home. Francis went back to his company to do some work, and as for Joseph, he stayed in another ward room nearby to get some job done.
Elena remained by the old master’s side, and she massaged his arms.
“Grandfather, I don’t know what you are thinking right now, but I think you heard what we said.”
The old master did not say a word, but he looked a little stiff.
“Grandfather, don’t worry. As long as we are together as a family, we’ll be fine.”
“We won’t let anyone harm you, and we won’t let you be scared.”
She looked down as tears welled in her eyes.
“Grandfather, trust me, nothing bad will happen. As long as you get better, everything will be fine.”
The old master’s fingers tightened as he held her hand.
Elena quickly wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. She looked at her grandfather and smiled faintly. “Grandfather, you must work hard to get better. As long as you are well, things will be fine. Trust me!”
