“No, why would I think that Brother Joseph isn’t good enough for me?” Elena explained frantically.
With Joseph’s status, it was a huge step up for her if she got together with him. However, she had nothing to do with him. Someone had clearly set them up.
She could not think of anybody else except for Ava!
However, Joseph did not want to mention the drugs in front of everyone. His family would never know peace after that if he were to say that. What should they do to resolve that situation?
“With Eldest Young Master Garcia’s status, it would be a huge step up for you.” A deep voice said.
Everybody turned to look at the source of the voice, and they were surprised to learn that it was Michael, who had been quiet the whole time.
Even Eldest Young Master Williams had agreed to it?
Ava’s face could not hide her shocked expression. She did not expect to hear that; it was such a surprise!
Elena looked at him anxiously, and she panicked. She gradually calmed down when she saw the half-smile on his face.
“Eldest Young Master Williams, do you also think that I should get engaged with Brother Joseph?”
“Well, it depends on your feelings for each other. What’s the point of asking me?” Michael smiled lightly as he held up the teacup and took a sip of the tea. He continued to look at her with a faint smile.
“However, I do have to say that Eldest Young Master Garcia is a keeper. If you could rise to his rank, it would definitely be a blessing.”
Elena clenched her fist; her sharp nails almost poked through the flesh in her palms. Her face, however, was still calm and composed.
She moved her eyes and tilted her head to look at Joseph, who sat next to her.
Joseph smiled faintly and said, “Now, now, you guys should stop harassing Elena. I will discuss it with Elena in private…”
“Why discuss later? Why don’t we clarify everything now, while everyone is here?” Old Master Garcia understood the importance of ‘striking while the iron’s hot’, because he could clearly tell that Elena was not too enthusiastic about the engagement. He knew that he was selfish, but he wanted to keep Elena by his side.
Besides, from the way the girl looked at Eldest Young Master Williams, he could sense something strange between them. However, it was apparent that the man was also very good to Ava, and Elena was her sister. They should not fall in love with the same man. If things were to go on, Elena would surely get hurt.
“I know that your Brother Joseph will take good care of you, so don’t worry.”
Joseph did not say anything, but he looked at Elena with a gentle smile. Elena stared back at him, and for some reason, she held his hand, and Joseph reciprocated the gesture.
He smiled and said, “Grandfather, must you really talk about this in front of so many people? Can we discuss it at your study tomorrow?
“But…” The old master still felt insecure about it. He wanted to fix a date for their engagement that very night. Only then would he consider it a done deal.
He wanted them to get engaged as soon as possible so that Elena would not have the opportunity to flee!
Lottie calmly said, “Father, it’s already very late. We should discuss everything else tomorrow. Let the kids rest.”
“That’s true, Old Master. It’s already so late, why must we do this now? The children need their rest!” Butler Milo signaled him with his eyes. Could he not see that Elena was not in a good mood? Why would he be so inconsiderate to her?
Old Master Garcia did not mean to be inconsiderate; he was afraid that the opportunity would slip by him. However, since everybody had said the same thing, he would put Elena in a tight spot with his insistence.
“Alright, Joseph. Come to my study first thing tomorrow, and we will discuss this. He looked at Elena and Joseph, and then he winked at them. “In the meantime, be nice to our Elena, don’t let such a wonderful girl get away from you.”
“Understood.” Joseph nodded and stood up. Then, he looked at Ava. “Ava, I have prepared all the information about our company’s administration that you have asked for. Follow me upstairs, and I’ll give them to you.”
“Ava wants our administrative information?” The old master was not the only one shocked by the news. Even Lottie was stunned when she heard that.
Joseph smiled and said, “Well, Garcia Corporation would belong to her eventually, we might as well let her familiarize herself with it now so that she could feel at ease when she takes over in the future.”
Even though Joseph was right, Old Master Garcia felt a little guilty when he looked at him. Joseph was a great kid. He had been beside him for so many years and served Garcia Corporation so loyally. He had always been obedient and had not complained about anything in his life. Joseph never asked for anything from him.
The old master sighed and nodded. “Well then…have a good talk.”
“Grandfather, I’m a little tired. I would like to go upstairs to rest now.” Elena also stood up. After Old Master Garcia nodded in agreement, she bid goodnight to everyone and walked toward the spiral stairs.
She did not look at Michael, not even half a glance. The man was not worthy of her attention anymore—not even a bit.
Elena walked back to her room with heavy steps.
Even though she had already taken a shower and changed, she somehow felt like she needed another wash. She really as if her body was incredibly dirty.
Could a body that had been touched by Eldest Young Master Williams not be dirty? It would still be dirty even after a shower. She was filthy.
She walked into the bathroom but did not turn on the warm water.
It was almost the new year, so the cold water was icy. Elena almost fainted under the cold water tap. However, the pain in her heart kept her conscious and aware.
What was the use of pain, though? Something that did not belong to her would eventually leave her. What was the point of pain?
Half an hour later, Elena got out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body. Her steps were a little weak, and her body shivered from the cold!
However, she did not expect to see another person in her room as soon as she stepped out of the bathroom. He sat on a chair and looked at her coldly.
Elena’s face darkened, and she immediately went back to the bathroom. Before she could close the door, however, the man moved as fast as lightning, and he was already in front of her when she took her second step. He took her arms in a tight grip and pulled her to his chest.
The girl in his arms felt cold, almost like an ice popsicle.
Michael’s face turned green, and he angrily asked, “You took a cold shower? Are you crazy?”
Elena thought it was funny that Michael was concerned about her. Was that not funny? Especially when he grabbed her, threw her on the bed, and pulled a blanket over her to wrap her tightly. Was he worried that she would catch a cold?
That man! Just a moment ago, he had tried to shove her to another man, and he even pretended that he did not care about her. It seemed like everything was only an act.
Was he not tired?
