Chapter 309 He Finally Believed Her

The child might not make it.
The baby was too fragile, and there was no way to predict what might happen in the future. It would take some time before the doctor could determine if they could keep the child.
If they could keep the child…
Michael was relieved with the news, but at the same time, it was heart-wrenching too.
“Is Ryan coming?” He had called Ryan before he returned.
Henry nodded. “Ryan is now taking care of her with the head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.” Henry was worried when he saw the man’s battered state.
“You’d better… let the doctor clean up your injuries first.”
Michael was reluctant to do that, and he only wanted to wait for Elena to wake up. Henry tried to persuade him again. “The doctor said she shouldn’t receive any more blows. If she wakes up and sees you like this, don’t you think you’ll scare her?”
Michael clenched his fists, and he turned around and pulled out his mobile phone. “Get me a clean set of clothes immediately.”
Levi was already at the hospital when he knew that Michael was back. However, Eldest Young Master’s plan dictated that Levi should not go to the hospital to look after Elena. Since Eldest Young Master did not tell him to go there, he did not dare to show himself.
When he received Michael’s call, Levi delivered those clean clothes immediately. He just never expected to see the extensive injuries on Michael’s body—some wounds were due to knives, and bullets caused the others. Fortunately, none of those injuries were fatal, or else… Levi did not even want to think about the consequences.
Michael told the doctor to clean up the wounds before he went back to Elena’s room.
Elena had been transferred to the intensive care unit. Her condition had stabilized, and she was not in much danger for the time being. However, her body was still very fragile.
The incident with Michael from that night had already damaged her body significantly. Her body was not prepared for a pregnancy, but no one expected a child would be conceived during that harsh situation. Her body had recovered after that, albeit she was still weak.
No one suspected that Elena would be pregnant. Even the child’s mother thought that the stomach pain was because of her period. No 18-year-olds would know about pregnancies. It was not the right time for Elena to get pregnant. The girl had suffered so much trauma—mentally and physically.
Michael sat down by the hospital bed and changed his clothes. There was no trace of blood on his body, and he looked no different from his usual self, save for his pale face. Apart from doctors, most people would not be able to tell that he was injured.
Therefore, when Elena woke up, she did not notice anything wrong with him. Why was he there? Was he not in Aryastan? Was it really him? The man who said that he did not believe in her?
She had mixed feelings about his presence. On the one hand, she did not want him to risk his life in Aryastan, but on the other, she was afraid to learn that he did not trust her.
She had not spoken properly with him the past two times, and she had not seen him from the front. She had suspected that the person who talked to her was the real Eldest Young Master Williams.
At that exact moment, however, she was 200% sure that the man in front of her was Michael.
“Why…”
She wanted to get up, but Michael gently pressed her back down onto the bed. “Don’t move.”
She did not dare to move, and she was unsure whether she heard them correctly. Elena’s hand fell onto her lower abdomen, and there were many questions in her mind. Despite that, she did not dare to ask them.
“You’re pregnant.” Michael gave her a direct answer.
He did not know how to explain it to her, let alone the mood he should be in when he faced her. For the first time ever, he was a father-to-be.
The pregnancy did not come at the right time, and it was definitely not a good thing for her. Even so, he was pleasantly surprised by the news. He tried his best to suppress his excitement and dial his tone back so that he would not startle her.
“The child is fine, but your body is very weak. The doctor said you must have proper rest.”
Elena had her usual expression, but her fingers shook continuously. She looked at her lower abdomen and pressed her hands tightly to her stomach. She could not feel the baby, but she could imagine it in her stomach. She had a tiny life in her belly.
She could not describe the feelings that she felt; she did not even know if she was happy about it. She knew that it was not the right time for her to get pregnant, but what could she do when the baby was already there?
She began to cry. She wanted to look away so that the man would not see her tears. She did not want to show her vulnerability in front of him.
Michael cupped her face gently and turned her head around. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you no matter what the future holds.”
It was a simple promise, but Elena’s heart tightened, and her tears gushed forth like opened floodgates. Had he lost his doubts about her? Did he trust her then? He was so gentle at that moment, and it was vastly different from his usual coldness. Which was the real Michael?
“Don’t cry.” Michael’s long fingers gently wiped her tears dry.
His voice was low and hoarse, but it was also warm. “I’m sorry …”
Elena could not bear it anymore. She struggled to get up so that she could hug him.
The moment their bodies touched, Michael frowned, but he managed to recover his expression just as quickly. He did not want her to see that something was amiss. His injuries had hurt a little when Elena embraced him.
However, his woman and the baby in her belly were in his arms. As painful as it was, there was also happiness and sweetness. He closed his eyes, and the tortures of those past few days seemed to have faded in a split second.
“Don’t doubt me. I didn’t hurt Grandmother. I’m her granddaughter. I didn’t lie to you.”
Elena hugged his neck tightly and cried until her eyes were red. “Ava is a liar, and she has been lying to you.”
Michael did not say a word. He simply nodded and responded with a soft, “Hmm.” His somber tone tugged at Elena’s heart, and she hugged him harder. He believed her. He finally believed her!
She had never thought of herself as delicate, but at that moment, she was so fragile that she could almost faint. Was it excitement? Was she moved? Or perhaps it was sadness? He finally believed her…
Michael coughed softly and withstood the pain. Then he softly said, “When you’re ready, let’s… go home together.”
Elena nodded with all her might.
He had finally returned to her.
The two of them were in each other’s embrace, and they did not notice the figure at the door.
After he opened the door, Henry carefully closed it again.
He was outside the hospital. His heart was miserable as he stood in the warm autumn wind. He should be happy since they were reunited.
However, it seemed like his heart had lost its direction when he heard that they were to go home together.
Home… Did she not use the same word with him not too long ago?
