“Were you looking for me?” On the other end of the phone, Michael’s voice was somewhat different from usual. He sounded distant, but Elena knew that it was his voice. It sounded even more like him than ‘him’ from the other night.
She was not sure of the crazy thought she had in her mind, but she held the phone tightly in her hand as she said, “Yes, give me five minutes.”
“I’m listening.” Surprisingly, Eldest Young Master Williams was quite patient at that moment.
Elena took a deep breath before she continued to say, “Ava deceived you. She is not the old madam’s granddaughter; I am!”
Michael remained silent for about two seconds.
Elena was afraid that she would not have enough time to explain, so she hastily explained, “The old madam’s blood sample was left in the hospital. I asked Second Young Master Williams to help me get a copy of that. Then, I took it to another hospital and did a test with my DNA.
“If you don’t believe me, I can show you the report. You only need to compare the DNA information in the hospital with the DNA information on that report.
“The identification result showed that we are related by blood, and the report is still in my hands.”
“Who had seen the report?” Michael asked.
Elena replied, “Caleb and I.”
There was no more sound from the other end of the call. It seemed like there were no movements at all. Elena did not know what he would think about that. She thought he would believe her, but after their encounter back at the Williams’s mansion, she no longer had that same confidence. Michael was quiet, and Elena was always nervous when he was silent.
“If you don’t believe me, you can take the old madam’s samples and repeat the DNA test with me. I am free to do that at any time.”
“As for Ava, she is fake! I hope you will not continue to be fooled by her.”
Michael remained silent. The quiet and still atmosphere made Elena very uncomfortable. Every second was like torture to her.
It took some time before Michael spoke again. “Give the report to Levi, and I will have a look at it.”
Elena was relieved. As long as he was willing to see the report, then he would eventually find out about the truth.
“Okay. When will Levi come and get it? I’m now staying at Sharp Corporation’s staff apartment.”
“Tomorrow.”
“Alright.”
The conversation stopped dead as if there was nothing else to carry on, but Elena held onto the phone and was reluctant to let it go. He was at the other end of the phone. Even though they were miles apart, it felt as if he was by her side when the phone was by her ear. His indifferent attitude had shattered her heart, yet over the phone, he seemed still on her side. He was so far and yet so close. They would be separated if they hung up the phone. Therefore, they did not want to put down the phone, nor did they want to hang up the call.
Eventually, Michael said in an indifferent tone, “I still have things to do. I will contact you again after Levi compares the report.”
She did not even have a chance to respond when the call ended with a long beep. Elena sat on the bed and watched as the screen darkened until it went black. She should have been able to stay calm, but her mood was like the rough and choppy waves.
It might have been because of the ginger soup. She could not sleep; she tossed and turned in her bed all night long. She did not manage to catch a single wink at all. She woke up the next day with dark circles around her eyes.
When she saw Henry the next morning, she complained, “It’s all because of your ginger and brown sugar soup.”
She could blame her insomnia for any reason as long as it was not because of a certain man.
Henry felt guilty as he placed another bowl in her hands. “I made some brown sugar soup for you, without the ginger.”
Elena was moved. Second Young Master Sharp was usually brilliant, but why did he seem so silly then?
“Would you ever be my friend if Eldest Young Master Williams were not in the picture?” she asked while she drank the soup.
Second Young Master Sharp answered curtly, “Who knows?”
Elena wrinkled her nose at him and snorted before she finished the bowl. She rolled her eyes at him again as she put it down.
“The best time for one to drink ginger soup is in the morning. So, where’s the ginger?”
The question stunned Henry for a moment, and he almost slapped himself. It was best to have ginger in the morning, but he must have gotten things mixed-up again.
“Sorry, I will remember it next time.”
“Hmm.” It was rare that Elena did not mock him. She just nodded gently.
“How is your stomach? If it hurts, don’t go to class today. I will tutor you.”
Henry’s eyes settled onto her stomach, but he was embarrassed to ask her about her period.
“Second Young Master Sharp, don’t you have better things to do? Is your company closing down soon?”
“A dog’s mouth could not spit out ivory. ”
“Why don’t you show me how to spit out ivory?”
Elena chuckled and shook her head. “It doesn’t hurt anymore. Maybe I ate something bad last night. My period has not come. I’m sorry that I have wasted your ginger and brown sugar soup.”
So, his effort had gone down the drain?
Henry was frustrated. “Since you had not had your period, then, why did you drink the brown sugar soup this morning?”
“Of course, I have to drink it. I’d be proud to tell people that Second Young Master Sharp made me ginger and brown sugar soup!”
She hugged her backpack and walked toward the car. Then, she looked at him. “Hurry up. Else I’ll be late.”
“Got it.” He felt like a fool from last night.
However, he did not mind being an idiot. It was worth it if he could see her healthy and kicking.
As soon as the car drove out of Sharp’s Industrial Park, Elena’s mobile phone rang, and it was Levi. She told Henry to stop by the roadside; Levi had waited for her outside the park. Elena had the report in her bag, and she was ready to hand it to Levi.
Levi took it and looked at it carefully before he said, “Miss Elena, this is not a trivial matter. If this is true, then I’m afraid that someone might be out to hurt you; if it’s just a misunderstanding, then it will look bad on you if it gets out to the public. So, please keep it confidential for now, okay?”
“I understand.” Levi was polite and friendly toward her.
He did not say that it was a false statement. Instead, he referred to it as a misunderstanding. He wanted to say that she did not mean to deliberately lie to them if it were all a misunderstanding. How nice of him!
“Miss Elena, I shall take my leave. I will get the information from the hospital, and I will let you know once I have the results.”
“Yes, please.”
She did not have to prove who she was; she would have the final say for that. However, she had to expose that Ava was a fraud, even if it meant that Eldest Young Master Williams and her were still strangers after that.
“What did you give him?” Henry went and stood next to her. Together, they watched as Levi left in his car.
Elena wanted to say something, but Levi’s advice rang in her mind. “I don’t want to say.”
She shook her head and gave him a look. “I don’t want to say.”
“Very well. Let’s go.” Henry took the lead and walked toward the car. “Quick, you’ll be late otherwise.”
