Elena was in a trance-like state. She was awake, but it was as if her soul was not there.
She sat on the bed; her body was limp, and her eyes were emotionless. She could no longer see Grandmother. Everything before her was unfamiliar.
The man helped her back onto the bed, and she closed her eyes again. He grew anxious. “Elena, don’t go back to sleep!”
“Doctor, please take a look at her!”
The doctor and his assistants rushed over to examine her. They changed the IV drop and resupplied the oxygen.
During the commotion, two crystal teardrops trickled from her tightly closed eyes and wet the pillow.
Even though her eyes were closed, she was wide awake. She was well aware that she would never get to see Grandmother again.
When the doctors and nurses attended to her, Elena kept her eyes closed and remained silent. Finally, Henry waved his hand, and the doctor and nurses left.
Only the two of them were left in the room.
Henry dragged a chair to the side of the bed and sat next to her.
He took a piece of tissue from the bedside table and wiped the corners of her eyes.
“Since you have already awoken, you should face this with courage. It is not like you to escape, Elena.”
The long eyelashes twitched, but she did not open her eyes. Henry did not force her. It was a traumatic experience for her, so it would not be easy for her to pull through that quickly.
Nevertheless, things had already happened. No matter how difficult it was, one should face it boldly.
He would give her time. After all, she had been unconscious for the past ten days and had just woken up. Her body was fragile, and she could not even drink a sip of water. She still had to rely on the I. V. drip.
She must have felt pretty overwhelmed with everything that had happened. Henry sighed and leaned back in his chair as he quietly stared at her.
He thought she was asleep when Elena suddenly spoke, “How…did I leave the Williams’s mansion?” Her voice was very hoarse. If he were not staring at her face, Henry would have missed such a weak and soft voice.
He was amazed, and a little excited as a glimmer of light glinted in his eyes. However, he was afraid that his excitement would scare someone who had been sleeping for ten days, so he tried his best to calm down.
“Eldest Young Master Williams called me, and I went there to get you.”
Elena’s eyes twitched slightly, and finally, she opened her eyes, “Where is he?”
Henry did not answer her, but he said, “The doctor said that you could only drink water after four hours. Please bear with it for now.”
Elena persisted. “Where is he?”
“He came to see you.” Henry smiled at her. “Eldest Young Master Williams is very busy. He still has a lot of things to deal with.”
She knew he was busy, but she still held a little hope that he had been the man who had stayed by her side for the past ten days. However, if it was really him, why did she see Henry as soon as she woke up?
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes again. “I’ll have to thank him later.”
In any case, it was a miracle that he could get her out of the Williams’s mansion under such circumstances.
As for Old Madam Williams’s cause of death, they had ruled it as accidental drowning. Regardless of the investigations, it had to be beneficial to the Williams family and Williams Corporation. They were a powerful family, and thus their affairs would often affect the interest of the entire family.
Elena looked much more spirited when she opened her eyes again. She looked at the man who sat by her bed, and her cracked lips moved slightly as she whispered, “Thank you.”
She did not expect that a person she had met by chance would accompany her for ten days while she was sick. Even though she was unconscious for the duration, she was glad that there was someone by her side when she woke up. She would always remember his kindness.
Whatever Henry intended to say, he had decided to keep it to himself. He just nodded and pulled her blanket up to her chin. “Rest.”
“Hmm.”
…
Three days later, Elena was discharged from the hospital. Her friends stopped by every day while she was in the hospital, but they were swamped and could not stay for too long each time.
After Elena left the hospital and went back to Sharp Corporation, she finally realized why they were so busy.
“Elena, look at our office building. Are you happy with it?
They had rushed to finish the work before Elena was discharged from the hospital so that she could see the fully furnished September Media. Therefore, they could not spend as much time at the hospital.
Elena was a little moved. When she walked into the lobby, it had a serious atmosphere that showed it belonged to a large corporation. She did not expect that she would be in charge of such a large department one day. It was something her past-life Elena would never dare dream.
She was only a parasite in her past life, a parasite that leeched off Eldest Young Master Williams.
“Elena, let me show you to your office.”
Elena’s office was on the eighth floor. It was not very big, but it was spacious and bright. Clean and straightforward, it was her favorite style.
“The press conference from the other day. How was it? Did you use Second Young Master Sharp’s scandal?” She was still weak, so she sat down on her chair once she entered her office.
Layla shook her head, and she glanced at the man who sat on the sofa with a cup of coffee in his hand.
She drew closer to Elena and whispered, “Second Young Master Sharp was not willing to be in any rumors with me. He had rejected the idea as soon as we suggested it.”
“Then, the press conference…”
“It went okay. Second Young Master Sharp said a few words and asked if they were interested in seeing his private office. All the reporters jumped at the chance.”
His private office?
Elena looked at the man on the sofa in the corner of the office. He sipped his coffee while he read the news on his mobile phone. He seemed indifferent to his subordinates’ concerns.
However, Elena knew that he treated her exceptionally well and that she could not possibly repay him. Someone like Second Young Master Sharp would not willingly show his private space to others if not to help her.
Furthermore, after he sent her to her office, he had stayed with her. His time was precious, and yet he was willing to waste it on her.
Elena wanted to thank him, but Henry did not seem to care about their conversation. He was probably the type of person who did not like to hear such things.
“Okay. Elena, I have many new applicants to interview today, so I have to go.”
Layla turned around and asked a little cautiously, “Second Young Master Sharp…”
“You can go, I’ll look after her.”
Even though she had been discharged from the hospital, she had been in a coma for ten days. Her physical condition was still very poor. The doctor had informed them that they would need to keep an eye on her in case she would faint or fall.
Layla nodded and looked at Elena again with a weird glint in her eyes. She drew closer to Elena and whispered, “Second Young Master…treats you really well. You must cherish him.”
She did not allow Elena the opportunity to retort and took off hurriedly.
