They had taken Ava’s blood instead of Elena’s for the parental test…
The old lady was stunned when she heard that. She was so petrified that her body went stiff. Who was that person, and who was she speaking to? What did she mean when she mentioned ‘Old Madam Williams’? Was she not the only Old Madam Williams? Who was the person on the other end of the phone? Who was it?
Before the old madam could figure out what had happened, the woman behind the flower bed said, “Eldest Young Master Williams seemed to like that bloody Ava, and he often invited her to meet him at the Williams’s.”
“I’m so worried about Elena, so I came here today. Unexpectedly, I saw Ava and Eldest Young Master Williams together. I am so mad!”
“Ava not only dressed like her deceased mother, she even dared to snatch Elena’s man. That bloody girl, I’ll get her eventually!”
The old madam could not hear what was said on the phone, but the woman behind the flower patch gnarled, “I knew I should have kicked Ava out of the house earlier. Why would I keep her if I didn’t need her to cover Elena’s identity?”
“I have raised her for so many years, and I even let her impersonate Elena’s identity, just so that one day she could appear as Talia’s daughter to meet with Old Madam Williams.”
“Of course, I have known that Ava was the old madam’s granddaughter all along.”
The old madam could no longer take any more of that conversation. Her heart felt a little uncomfortable, so she placed her hand over her chest. Her breathing had also suddenly labored.
‘Oh, God! What had she done? So… that was the truth! How could they? How could they do that to Ava? They had bullied and ill-treated her for years!’
“Old Madam, what’s wrong, Old Madam?” The maid was startled and screamed on top of her lungs, “Help! The old madam is sick! Please come! Help!”
The old madam had fallen ill, and she had to spend a couple of days and nights in the emergency room. Two days later, she returned to the intensive care unit and told the medical personnel there that she did not want to see anyone, not even the old master.
Eventually, the old man insisted on seeing her, but no one knew what had happened behind those closed doors. Three days later, the old lady had returned to the Williams Mansion.
The Williams family had doctors and nurses who specialize in caring for the old madam. As long as she did not feel too poorly, it was better for her to be home rather than at the hospital. However, the old madam had been in a bad mood and refused to see anyone, not even Elena.
Her lousy mood continued for five days. Elena did not know what had happened to the old madam. Michael had been to see her twice. However, every time he was there, it seemed like the old madam had wanted to tell him something, but she held her tongue instead. She always looked as if she had something to say, but not a single word escaped her lips. No one knew how to comfort her.
The doctor had mentioned that when the patient behaved that way, it was mostly because the patient knew that their condition was not favorable. Had the old madam worried that she would die soon, and so she had lost all her hope to live? No one wanted to comment on that, but they were all prepared for the worst. They were afraid that she did not have that much time left.
The doctor had said the same thing before. They had cautiously advised that they were not sure if the old madam could make it through the winter that year, and the news had troubled all the Mu family members since.
Another two days had passed when Elena went to the Williams Mansion to visit the old madam. However, she did not expect that she would run into Ava at the courtyard.
“Elena, you’re here too?” Ava seemed to be in a good mood that morning.
However, Elena was surprised to see her in that old-fashion dress. The retro dress that Ava wore made her look so beautiful. However, she knew that it was not her style! Furthermore, she did not seem to have any makeup on her face. Was she still Ava if she went out with a naked face?
Elena was not in a mood to talk to her. She just glanced at her and went straight to the backyard. She heard that the old madam was already in the garden. She was there to see the old madam, and she would only feel at ease if she knew that the old lady was fine.
“Why are you so anxious? Do you think that the old madam would still want to see you?”
Ava walked behind her, and she kept her pace fast and calm.
“What are you talking about?” Elena glanced back at her. Even though she did not want to interact with Ava, she felt that something was amiss with what she had said earlier.
“Nothing. I just wanted a bet with you.”
Ava walked up to Elenat and signaled her to go to the backyard with herself.
“Let’s take a guess. Would the old madam see you today, or would she call for me?”
Elena frowned. What would Ava want with the old madam? In her past life, Ava had always wanted to please Old Madam Williams. However, the old lady had always kept her at an arm’s length. Why was Ava so confident that the old madam would meet with her?
“I heard that the old madam had actually wanted Eldest Young Master Williams and me to be together, but I wasn’t sure why she changed her mind.”
Ava’s smile was almost as elegant as a noble princess. She had looked at Elena without the usual hostility as if she was not bothered to be her enemy at all. She seemed so superior, so precious and elegant, but forever so hypocritical. Elena ignored her and went straight to the backyard. Ava trailed behind her without any intention to walk past her.
The old madam was behind the main house, and the old master was with her. Since the old madam had fallen sick and transferred from the intensive care unit to the regular ward, the old master had kept her company.
However, he was also the head of the Williams Corporation. If he were with the old madam, then he would have to neglect his duties at the Williams Corporation. There was a rumor that the old master had made arrangements for his successor. However, he had not made any statement, so everyone still tried to do their best.
Even though Eldest Young Master had always been the old master’s favorite, he already had his own Century Group and did not seem to want to take over the Williams Corporation. Hence, the rest of the young masters in the Mu family fought openly and discreetly to be the old master’s successor.
At times like that, it became their priority to please the old master and the old madam.
When she saw the old master push the old madam around in her wheelchair, Elena hesitated for a moment before she picked up her pace.
She knew that the old master had never liked her, but she was there to visit the old madam.
Therefore, she went ahead, even though the old master despised her. However, she had only taken two steps forward when Ava suddenly gripped her arms and pulled her back.
“What are you doing?” When Ava pulled her, Elena lost her balance and stumbled onto her sister. She did not expect that Ava would drop onto the group with a loud thud when she tried to reach for her.
“Argh!” Ava cried out in pain as she placed her hands over her ankles. Tears of pain flowed freely on her cheeks.
“Elena, I… I just wanted to see the old madam. I don’t want to fight with you!”
Elena frowned, but it had only taken her a moment before she realized what had happened. Ava had wanted to frame her again, and she even dared to do that at the Mu’s! However, Eldest Young Master Williams was not even there that day, so why would she do that?
