“Why didn’t she want to see anyone apart from Elena?”
Everyone in the Williams family wondered about that big question, and they desperately wanted to know too. The two young misses from the family could not even sit still. If their grandmother had asked for any of their brothers, they would have been okay with it. Why did it have to be Elena?
That young madam had just joined the family. Well, technically, she was not even part of the family yet. Why did the old madam favor her so? Even Ava was puzzled about that.
“Sir, Old Madam Williams seemed to love Elena. Is there any special reason for that?”
The man on the other side of the phone was silent for a while before he answered, “Is Elena really the Garcia family’s daughter?”
“What do you mean, sir?” Ava was stunned as she did not expect that he would ask such a question. Could it be…
“Sir, do you mean that the old madam and Elena might have a special relationship with each other?”
“The old madam had hired a private investigator about half a year ago. However, my people couldn’t find out about the contents of the investigation.”
Ava listened to his low timbre voice before she explained, “Elena is my father’s illegitimate daughter. She was born out of wedlock and then brought home after that.”
“As for her mother, I don’t remember much about her. Could her mother and old madam…”
The old madam might have had an illegitimate daughter before she was married into the Williams family. Who would have known the truth? She was already in her thirties when she married Old Master Williams. If one considered her age, Ava’s speculation might just be correct.
The man on the other end of the phone then said, “Well, it won’t be difficult to find out about that.”
“Do you need something from Elena?” It was easy enough to run a DNA test.
If Elena was related to the old madam, then that was probably the reason she insisted that Elena married the outstanding Eldest Young Master Williams.
After the old madam married into the Mu Family, she had only one son. Unfortunately, her son had died when he was very young. In other words, the old madam had no blood relations with all the other young masters in the Mu family. If Elena was really the old madam’s granddaughter, then her unusual behavior was quite reasonable. Only Elena that b*tch would have that kind of luck!
“I will get you something from Elena. As for the old madam…”
“Just give me an item that belongs to Elena, and I will deal with the DNA test.”
“I got it.”
After she hung up the phone, Ava clutched the phone tightly as she pondered about the situation.
Why was Elena so lucky that all good things happened for her? She did not understand why the old madam would choose someone so ugly and had a bad reputation as her granddaughter-in-law. Was she blind? Things were beginning to make sense then. When Ava went downstairs, Henry was already in the hall.
After she pondered about it for a moment before she suddenly asked, “Daddy, what did Elena’s mother do before this? How did you know each other?”
Henry did not expect his daughter to ask such questions, and therefore he was startled. It had been so many years, did Ava still resent her?
“Daddy, I thought that since Elena and Eldest Young Master Williams are together now, Second Young Master Mu and I… have also made some progress recently.”
“Second Young Master Williams proposed to you?” Henry’s eyes lit up.
If Second Young Master Williams were engaged to his daughter, then his company’s future would be even brighter. He would not need to worry about the business anymore, would he? Both his daughters would be married into the Williams family. That alone was enough to change how his peers viewed him. Everyone would want to curry favors for his company. Henry got even happier as he thought about it. When she saw the look on her father’s face, Ava immediately knew what was on his mind.
Even though she had started to look down on her father, she still wore a soft and gentle smile on her face.
“It looks like I would have another kind of relationship with Elena. As you know, Daddy, Elena seems to have misunderstood me lately.”
“What’s the matter with you and Elena?” Henry did not dare to mistreat Elena since she was engaged to Eldest Young Master Williams.
Ava replied to him with a smile, “It’s nothing. I just want to get along better with her in the future, so I would like to know more about her.”
Ava did not want to continue the conversation about that b*tch, so she diverted his attention back to her first question.
“What kind of person was Elena’s mother? Was she a young miss? Which family did she come from?”
“Young miss? No, she was just a daughter from an ordinary family. When I was at the bar, she and I…”
Henry was reluctant to talk about the past.
“She has been away for so many years, why are we still talking about her? I’m afraid that even Elena has forgotten about her.”
“Did she not tell you anything about her family? Where were they, and who else was in it?”
“She was a barmaid, and she was not from Bentson. Who knows who else she had in her family?”
“Daddy…”
“Don’t mention this person anymore, and don’t bring her up in front of Elena.”
Henry was fed up with the topic. He stood up, looked at his daughter, and said, “It’s already late, go to bed. Let’s visit Old Madam Williams tomorrow.”
They had heard that the old madam had been admitted into the intensive care unit. They would not be able to see her, but they would want to show everyone, especially the Williams family, that they cared about her well-being.
Ava watched Henry’s back as he went upstairs. Why did her father get so impatient when she mentioned Elena’s mother? It did not seem like the woman was from any of the prominent family. Henry had always looked up to the rich people, so he would not have used such a contemptuous tone when he spoke about her. Could Elena’s mother be the old madam’s illegitimate daughter, after all?

Elena felt warm and snuggly when she woke up the next morning. She opened her eyes and realized that she was not hugging her usual soft toy. Instead…
“Eldest Young Master Williams?” The girl was shocked and summoned the strength to extricate herself from the man’s embrace. Michael frowned; he was never a morning person.
When he opened his eyes, the girl was no longer in his arms; she had already escaped from the bed. When he recalled that she had slept in his embrace, he felt a sense of warmth and contentment in his heart even though they had only been sleeping. He had slept well, and he had felt so satisfied.
It did not take long for Elena to wash up, get changed, and return from the bathroom.
“Are you heading to class?” Michael was still on the bed as he studied her freckled face.
“Hmm.” Elena turned her back toward him as she organized her bag.
“I will go to the hospital to see Grandmother after school. You don’t have to send someone to pick me up.”
People might talk if she was chauffeured to and fro the university. They might think that she had a wealthy partner or a sugar daddy. They would be separated in two years anyway, and by then, she would not have anything to do with Michael. Therefore, she would prefer it if he was not in her life too often. It would be easier for her to move on when they separated.
