“I’ll see you later, Rachel,” William said as he stood up to leave, giving her a warm smile. “I just wanted to make sure you were settling in okay.” He noticed that something wasn’t quite right and he had to give them some space.
“Of course,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, giving him a block smile as he walked out of the office.
As soon as Wiiliam was gone, she let out a sigh of hopelessness and turned to face her computer not wanting to make any eye contact with Leo.
“Are you okay?” Leo asked, concern etched on his face.
“I’m fine,” she lied.
“Hey, how have you been? You left without a word?” Leo asked, trying to make conversation.
Rachel didn’t respond, focusing all her attention on her work. She had been avoiding Leo for the past two weeks since their last encounter at the Chateau. He looked as handsome as ever, and she felt a strong urge to run back into his arms. But she fought the urge, knowing that it would only lead to more pain.
Leo sighed, sensing her distant demeanor. “Rachel, we need to talk about what happened at the Chateau.”
“I don’t want to talk about it, Leo,” Rachel said firmly, still not looking up from her work.
Leo tried to continue the conversation, but Rachel remained distant, her mind consumed with thoughts of their last encounter. She remembered the way he looked at her, the way he held her, and the way he made her feel. And she also remembered the pain that followed.
She couldn’t bear to face him any longer and excused herself from the room, avoiding Leo’s office for the rest of the day. The tension between them lingered in the air, a palpable reminder of the complicated relationship they shared.
Rachel sat at a small table in the bustling cafeteria, picking at her food with little appetite. It had been a long morning of hostile glares and whispered insults from her colleagues, who clearly resented her marriage to the company’s CEO, Leo. She had tried to ignore them, focusing on her work, but the constant chatter and snickering was wearing on her nerves.
Just as she was about to take a bite of her sandwich, she noticed Leo striding towards her table, his jaw set in a hard line. The other staff members fell silent, watching with rapt attention as he approached her.
“Rachel, I need to speak with you,” Leo said, his voice low and dangerous.
Rachel felt a surge of anger at his demanding tone. She pushed back from the table and stood up, glaring at him. “I have nothing to say to you,” she spat out, her voice shaking with anger.
Ignoring the gawking faces of the staff, she strode past Leo and out of the cafeteria. She pushed through the double doors, feeling the tension in the air start to dissipate as she made her way down the hall. But when she turned the corner to the restroom, she saw that Leo was right behind her.
“You can’t just walk away from me like that,” he growled, grabbing her arm.
Rachel wrenched herself free, rounding on him. “I can do whatever I want, Leo. I don’t have to put up with your bullshit anymore.”
Leo’s expression darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. “What the hell is your problem? You’re acting like a child.”
“Me? You’re the one who married me for all the wrong reasons,” Rachel spat out. “I can’t believe I ever let myself fall for you.”
The two of them stood there in the hallway, glaring at each other. Rachel could feel her heart pounding in her chest, a mix of anger and sadness washing over her.
“Rachel,” Leo said softly, reaching out to touch her arm.
But she pulled away, her eyes flashing with tears.
The sound of the door slamming echoed through the small office, startling Rachel. She looks up from her desk to see Leo standing in front of her, anger written all over his face.
“What do you want?” Rachel says, trying to keep her voice steady.
“We need to talk,” Leo says, his voice low and menacing.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” Rachel snaps back, getting to her feet. “You know everything that’s going on in my life, what with the bodyguards following me everywhere.”
Leo’s eyes narrow as he takes a step closer to her. “You need to stop acting like a child,” he says, his voice barely controlled.
Rachel recoils as if she’s been struck. “You’re the one acting like a child,” she replies, her own anger rising. “Just leave my office.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Leo says, his voice growing louder. “We have to talk about what happened at the Chateau.”
Rachel crosses her arms over her chest, trying to maintain her composure. “I told you, there’s nothing to talk about,” she says, her voice shaking slightly.
Leo takes another step forward, towering over her. “I don’t believe you,” he says, his eyes flashing with anger. “You’re hiding something from me, and I’m going to find out what it is.”
Rachel feels her anger boiling over. “You have no right to invade my privacy like this,” she says, her voice rising. “I’m not a child, Leo. I’m a grown woman who can take care of herself.”
Leo’s expression softens for a moment, and he reaches out a hand to touch her arm. But Rachel pulls away, her anger giving way to fear.
“Just leave me alone,” she says, her voice trembling. “I can’t deal with this right now.”
Leo’s eyes darken, and he takes a step back. “Fine,” he says, his voice cold. “But this conversation isn’t over. We will talk about what happened at the Chateau, and we will get to the bottom of this.”
Rachel glared up at him, her eyes flashing with anger. “There’s nothing to talk about, Leo. I don’t appreciate you following me everywhere and having bodyguards watch my every move.”
Leo’s expression was unapologetic. “I have my reasons for doing what I’m doing, and I don’t feel an ounce of shame about it. If I had my way, I’d make sure you’re watched even when you sleep.”
Rachel’s eyes widened in shock. How could he be so callous and controlling? “You have no right to do that, Leo,” she said, her voice trembling with anger.
“I have every right,” Leo replied, his tone uncompromising. “You’re my wife, Rachel, and I’m going to make sure you’re safe no matter what.”
Rachel stood up from her desk, her eyes blazing with anger. “You don’t own me, Leo. I won’t be treated like some possession. I want you to leave my office right now.”
Leo’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, the two of them locked gazes in a tense stand-off. Finally, with a heavy sigh, Leo turned and walked out of the office, leaving Rachel to wonder just what was going on between them
