CHAPTER 24
Madeline, Rachel’s mother, was surprised at the change events, almost overjoyed as she saw Rachel come to terms with the fact that she was going to be married to a man she had never met in person.
She could see the excitement and anticipation in her daughter’s eyes as they picked out the perfect dress and accessories for the wedding.
She had been worried that Rachel would be resistant to the idea of an arranged marriage, but she could see that her daughter was beginning to embrace it.
She was happy as she watched her daughter try on different dresses and saw the way her face lit up when she found a good dress. Rachel was starting to understand the importance of tradition and the value of family in their culture.
Madeline’s happiness was also mixed with a bit of relief, she knew that arranging a marriage for her daughter was a big responsibility which, as expected, was always met with oppositions, and she was glad that it seemed to be working out. She could tell that Rachel was excited about the upcoming wedding and was looking forward to meeting her future husband.
Madeline and her daughter, Rachel, were on a mission. They were on the hunt for the perfect dress and accessories for the upcoming wedding affair. She had a specific vision in mind, but her daughter wasn’t quite as enthusiastic.
“Mom, do we have to do this today? I have a lot of work to catch up on,” Rachel complained as they walked into the first shop of the day.
She shot her a stern look. “This is important, Rachel. Your wedding is just around the corner and we need to find you something stunning to wear.”
Rachel rolled her eyes, but didn’t argue further. They moved from shop to shop, with Madeline pulling out dresses and holding them up against her daughter, while Rachel looked on with a sense of dread.
As the day dragged on, they finally stumbled upon a tailor recommended by a friend. Rachel reluctantly submitted to getting measured, while Madeline selected patterns and colors for the wedding.
As Madeline chatted with the head seamstress, Rachel wandered around the shop, picking up various items and trying them on. She grabbed a snack, a snickers bar, from a nearby table and munched on it as she watched people pass by the shop window.
She didn’t notice it at first, but as she was trying on a wedding veil, she thought she saw her boss’s car parked across the street. Her heart skipped a beat as she wondered if he was inside.
She quickly removed the veil, her face turning red with embarrassment. The sports car that Rachel saw parked outside the shop was sleek and shiny, with a glossy black finish that glimmered in the sun. It had a low, sloping roofline and a long, aerodynamic hood.
The car had a sporty and aggressive look with a wide stance and large, sleek alloy wheels. The car had tinted windows and a gleaming chrome exhaust pipe. The car was definitely a high-end luxury sports car, the kind of car that would turn heads on the road.
Just then, her mother called out to her, “Rachel, come here and look at this fabric.”
Rachel turned away from the window and walked over to her mother, but as she did, she stole a glance out the window. His car was no longer there, it had raced down the road.
“Rachel, are you even listening to me?” Madeline asked, her voice tinged with annoyance.
Rachel shook her head, trying to clear her mind. “I’m sorry, Mom. What did you say?”
As her mother launched into a discussion about the fabric options, Rachel felt a bit disappointed that she couldn’t get to know who it really was out there.
As the day went on, Rachel and her mother continued their search, moving from shop to shop, trying on dresses and accessories.
At last they arrived at a high-end bridal boutique located in the heart of the city. The store had large windows that let in plenty of natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The walls were painted a pale, delicate pink and the flooring was a glossy hardwood.
As they walked in, they were greeted by the sound of classical music playing softly in the background. The store was well-organized, with racks of dresses arranged by size and style. The dresses were displayed on mannequins and on hangers, each one carefully chosen to showcase the designer’s work.
The store had a wide variety of dresses, from traditional ball gowns to more modern, contemporary styles. There were also a wide range of accessories such as veils, tiaras, and jewelry. The store had a vintage vibe with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and a large ornate mirror at the back of the store.
The store had a small seating area where customers could relax and sip on champagne while trying on dresses. A friendly sales associate greeted them and offered to help with their search for the perfect dress. They also had a tailoring room in the back of the store where clients could get measured and have the dress altered to their size.
It had a luxurious and upscale feel, with the high-end designer dresses and the attentive service.
Rachel was already starting to feel frustrated as her mother’s vision for her didn’t align with her own. But despite her reluctance, she knew that her mother only wanted the best for her.
As the sun began to set, they finally found the perfect dress. It was a beautiful, flowing gown in a soft pink color that brought out the highlights in Rachel’s hair. She felt excited as she twirled around in front of the mirror. This was the dress, the one that would make her feel like a princess at her wedding.
As they left the shop, Madeline turned to her daughter with a satisfied smile. “See, that wasn’t so bad, was it?”
Rachel smiled back, feeling a sense of relief. “No, it wasn’t. Thank you, Mom.”
As they walked to their car, arm in arm, Rachel’s mind kept flitting back to the incident back at the tailor’s shop. She had no idea why her boss was around the area.
