CHAPTER 20
Leo couldn’t seem to get his mind off of Rachel. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off and it was driving him crazy. He knew that she didn’t know that she was betrothed to him, and it was a strange feeling, to be so close to someone and yet so far away.
He knew that he had to do something by approachin the problem, but he didn’t know how and what else to do.
He took a cold shower, the water cascading down his body, trying to clear his head and focus on the day ahead. He scrubbed himself down vigorously, wishing he could wash away the thoughts of Rachel that were plaguing his mind. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t seem to shake her off. He turned off the water and stepped out of the shower, feeling refreshed but still preoccupied.
He quickly got dressed, Leo made his way to the garage, where his car was parked. It was a sleek, black sports car that he had splurged on a few years ago. He unlocked the car with a beep and slid into the driver’s seat, the leather seat molding to his body. He took a deep breath and inserted the key into the ignition, turning it and feeling the engine roar to life.
He backed out of the parking spot and made his way out of the garage, the tires squealing as he hit the accelerator. The car picked up speed quickly, and he felt the wind whipping through his hair as he drove. He made his way onto the highway, merging into the fast lane and pushing the car to its limits.
He had a couple of meetings scheduled for the day, but as he sat in the board meeting, he found himself getting bored and unable to concentrate. He made the decision to cancel the rest of his meetings for the day, he needed to clear his head. The board meeting lasted for what felt like eternity. A wave of relief came over him the moment the meeting came to an end. He didn’t bother to indulge in any post-meeting formalities.
As he made his way out of the meeting room, he saw Rachel walking towards the meeting room and he was immediately annoyed.
As Leo sat in his office, lost in thought, his assistant, Sarah, walked in, her heels resounding over the room.
“Mr. James, your meetings for the afternoon are scheduled to start in 15 minutes.” she began heatedly “Are you ready to go?” She asked, holding a file with all the details of the meetings.
Sarah, Leo’s assistant, was dressed in a fitted black dress, the fabric hugging her curves in all the right places. The dress had a high neckline, but the cut was low, revealing a hint of cleavage that Leo couldn’t avoid noticing. She paired the dress with a pair of black heels, her blonde hair styled in a sleek bob, framing her face perfectly.
Leo took a moment to check her out, noticing the way the dress hugged her figure, and he felt a twinge of guilt for noticing. He shook it off and focused on the matter at hand.
Leo looked up at her and sighed, “Cancel all of them, Sarah, except the next one. I’m not in the mood for meetings today,” he said, rubbing his temples.
Sarah looked at him with confusion and concern, “Is everything okay, Mr. James? You’ve been acting strange the past few days,” she asked, her tone filled with concern.
Leo shook his head, “Everything is fine, Sarah. Just some personal issues I need to sort out,” he said, trying to wave her off.
Sarah hesitated for a moment, “If you’re sure, Mr. James. But please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help,” she said, before turning around to leave the office.
Leo watched her leave, feeling a tinge of guilt for brushing her off.
He knew that he needed to talk to someone about what was going on, but he didn’t know who to turn to. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Rachel was hiding something, and it was driving him crazy. He knew that he needed to find a way to talk to her and find out what was going on. But first, he needed to clear his head and figure out how to approach the situation.
He didn’t want to deal with her right now, not when his mind was so preoccupied. Leo quickly made his way out of the meeting room, his mind focused on putting as much distance as possible between himself and Rachel.
His steps were brisk and purposeful as he made his way towards the elevator. He could feel his heart beating faster as he got closer, the tension in his body building with each step.
As he reached the elevator, he quickly pressed the button to call it, his eyes fixed on the doors. It felt like an eternity as he waited, the seconds ticking by slowly. He could feel the weight of Rachel’s presence behind him as she walked towards him, and it made him feel uneasy.
Finally, the elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, and Leo quickly stepped inside. He let out a sigh of relief as the doors closed behind him, feeling a sense of safety and privacy as the elevator carried him away from Rachel. He could feel the tension in his body begin to dissipate as he leaned back against the wall, the elevator’s smooth ascent taking him away from the situation.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, and he knew that it was something that he needed to address. He knew that he couldn’t continue to avoid her, and he needed to find a way to talk to her and figure out what was going on. He couldn’t shake the feeling that she was hiding something, and it was driving him crazy.
There were moments when he had resolved to repress the reflection, but it kept coming back every now and then.
