Chapter 10
After much thinking, Rachel decides to throw her mother a bone. “OK mom, let me meet my soon to be husband at least” Rachel said standing up to take the dirty dishes to the kitchen.
Madeline smiled at her daughter, sweet relief flowing through her veins. She was so glad her daughter was going to be care for even when she died.
“Thanks darling, I will show you a picture of him and them you both will have a date together” clapping her hands in glee, she hugged her daughter.
“Mom!” Rachel struggled to leave her mother’s arms, The woman was strangling her! But Damn!, her joy was definitely infectious. Rachel couldn’t help but smile.
“Goodnight mom” rachel teased letting her mom know that she was going to sleep. Finishing off the last of the dishes, she started upstairs breaking into a smile when her mother started humming. she was humming a lullaby she used to make Rachel sleep when she was little. The song never failed to put her to sleep. As a child she had begged for the song anytime she wanted to sleep. Throwing fits anytime her plea wasn’t adhered to.
“Sweet dreams darling, Don’t let the bedbugs bite!” Madeline teased back staring at her daughter’s Hazel brown eyes that looked so much like Kevin’s. She let Rachel go.
Reaching her room , Rachel collapsed on the bed. The morning had been an emotional roller-coaster. Gosh, if my mo continues to feed me like this everyday. I would add weight she soliloquized.
Rachel was also curious as to why her asshole boss liked to wear a mask because from the little she had seen he was gorgeous, sighing dreamy she wondered why he was always quick to enter her thoughts. I mean the man spoke and looked like he ate kids for breakfast, drank his coffee black and scared innocent little babies for fun, Rachel chuckled at her analogies.
But seriously if I keep thinking about this man, I should just go ahead and get a lobotomy. Rachel chuckled again at the thought.
Rachel slept till around 4. When she woke up, she drank some freshly squeezed juice , worked some more on some documents Mr douchebag had sent to her as weekend jobs, weekend jobs was definitely not a thing she thought. Crosschecking her e-mails she closed her laptop and binge watched ‘Friends’.
Rachel still couldn’t believe how much the 80s show still made her laugh even after years of repeating same episodes.
Mother and daughter had dinner together admist gists and bouts of laughter. Madeline even brought out some old pictures of Kevin which they watched while crying and reminiscing on the old days.
Celine drove straight to Rachel’s place after work, she wanted to have a sleepover with her bestie. she had already stocked on comfort snacks which were in the blue bag on her passenger side.
Driving along an unfamiliar road, Celine feels skeptical at the sounds coming from her car.
“What in God’s name is wrong with this vehicle?”
Maneuvering the car, she forges forward determined to get to her destination before 5 pm.
“No, no, no, no” celine was angry now. The based vehicle was going unnecessarily slow and now it has stopped ignoring her the times she started the keys. Marching out she pops the hood looking confusingly at the car’s skeleton. She had never really paid attention to it really just doing the bare mininum like refilling the thank, changing the oil… celine closed the hood looking at her watch which read 6pm! Damn!.
She didn’t have a good feeling about this. Looking at the lonely road, she noted how eerily quiet this are was.
Celine wondered for the nth time if williams liked Rachel. She had always been jealous that they were such good friends Rachel was her bestie but she had always been skeptical about their relationship owing to the fact that they were like bread and butter in Highschool . they still are a stupid voice whispered in her head.
Celine shook her head knowing in her heart that they were just friends and even if they weren’t. It’s not like she had told rachel she liked williams .
Bypassing her car, she entered back into her car. Celine brought out her phone to call for assistance and bam! There was no service “Well that’s just f*cking great. Isn’t it? Celine banged on the steering.
Celine pondered on what to do. Cursing herself for not atheist telling Rachel she was coming over. She had wanted to surprise her but now, I’m sure the chocolates are melting celine’s heart broke at tglhe thought. They were Rachel’s favourite.
A couple of teen boys bounded over to her car. Celine breathed out a prayer of thanks happy at seeing humanising that could at least help her.
Stepping out she hollered “Hey y’all”. The boys reached her.
“My car stopped and I have no idea what’s wrong with it. Can you guys help me call a nearby mechanic?” Celine smiled at the 3 boys.
“There’s no mechanic workshop nearby, we are your only hope around here” the one in the middle drawled smirking slightly.
Celine had a bad feeling about this the boys’ eyes looked cold and they were smiling…why were the smiling?! Celine was alarmed. She cursed the moment she thought of following this unfamiliar route . She should have waited she thought .
Like flash, the boys spread out surrounding her. Celine looked on helplessly. She was now wishing she had stayed inside the car.
