Bella immediately put down the clothes in her hands and walked briskly to Gillian, asking coldly, “Why are you here?”
“What? Does your husband own this mall?”
Gillian’s words were obviously much sharper than a few years ago, and a cool, evil aura emanated from her.
“Let’s talk.”
Bella’s tone softened slightly as she didn’t want to get tough with Gillian, considering that Gillian wasn’t the same as she used to be.
They came to the cafe near the mall. Gillian glanced at the two men standing outside the door and laughed sarcastically, “Kevin is really sweet to you. Get you two bodyguards when you go out. Is he afraid you’ll be murdered in broad daylight?”
“Why did you come back this time? Kevin made it very clear at the beginning that you were not allowed to set foot in B City again.”
“Well, you two are really funny. You didn’t open that mall, and you didn’t build B City, so why shouldn’t I show up?”
“Are you back for revenge?”
Bella asked, her eyes blazing with anger.
“What do you think?”
“Isn’t it the first time you’ve followed me today, is it?” Associated with the previous several illusions, Bella began to be sure that their unscheduled encounter today was definitely not a coincidence.
“Several times. You noticed it long ago, otherwise, you wouldn’t have two more watchdogs around.”
Bella was very unhappy with Gillian’s attitude and asked in a cold voice, “Did you marry a man twenty years older than yourself just to come back and deal with Kevin and me?”
“Not exactly, but also to revive the majesty of our Burne-Brown family. It’s our family’s misfortune that we have you such a scourge. I always hold up half the sky for my parents.”
“You’re speaking in a righteous manner. I would like to see how you hold up half the sky.”
“Then we’ll see, Bella.”
Gillian raised a creepy smile, got up, twisted her slender waist, and walked away. Bella took a deep breath and told herself: I’m not angry. She stroked her belly: I’m the happiest woman in the world right now.
Bella knew it would be harder than ever to get Gillian to change her mind, so Bella dialed her best friend Alice’s number.
Alice got the call and rushed to the cafe where Bella was. Bella had been sitting there without moving.
“Bella, what’s the matter with you asking me out in such a hurry?”
“Have you seen Celeste lately?”
Alice was stunned and shook her head, “No, what’s wrong?”
“Didn’t you say last time that as long as Celeste survived the danger, she would leave B City and settle in France? Now, has she kept this promise?”
“I don’t seem to have heard her mention it again.”
Bella smiled mockingly, “So Alice, your mother-in-law is such a person. She won’t become aware of her errors and turn back from her wrong path just because she dodged a bullet. On the contrary, she must be sharpening her knife and preparing to deal with Kevin now.”
“Bella, don’t worry. I’ll talk to Louis when I get back tonight and tell him to stop his mother from doing anything bad again!”
“I couldn’t help you last time, and I’m ashamed of asking you for help this time. But things are a little tricky now. Gillian is back and she’s found a big anchor. I’m worried Kevin will have enemies in front and rear…”
Bella’s eyes were red. Alice held her hand, “Bella, I understand how you feel. I will find a way to help you. I promise you, no matter what happens, I will be on your side.”
Alice’s friendship made Bella blush with shame because Bella never thought of not siding with Kevin for Alice’s sake.
After chatting with Alice for more than an hour, Bella received a call from Blanche. She got up and said, “I’ll leave now, we’ll see you some other time.”
“Okay, are you guys going somewhere?”
“To check the ultrasound. I’m three and a half months pregnant and my mother-in-law is desperate to know if I’m carrying a boy or a girl.”
Alice nodded enviously, “How happy you’re. I want to get pregnant.”
“Then get pregnant.”
“Working on it.”
They stepped out of the cafe and smiled at each other in unison.
Bella and Blanche met at the entrance of the hospital they had contacted beforehand, and Blanche held Bella’s hand as they walked towards the hospital, murmuring as she walked, “Is it better to have two boys, or two girls, or else one boy and one girl…”
“Mom, stop murmuring. As long as it’s not two girls, it’s good.” It’s not like Bella didn’t know how much Blanche was looking forward to a baby boy.
Blanche glared at Bella, “Don’t say that. Now that you’ve recovered from your illness. Even if it’s two girls, I’m going to let you have two more twins.”
“…”
Bella was speechless. Blanche really thought Bella was so divine that she could give birth to twins every time.
The ultrasound results came back quickly and Bella wasn’t surprised when she was told that it was a boy and a girl, because Bella had always had this feeling in her heart that she was definitely carrying a boy and a girl. Sometimes a mother-to-be’s intuition was still quite accurate.
Blanche was happy, and so was Bella. The gloom Bella felt when she saw Gillian that afternoon was gone, and Bella made a long-distance phone call to Kevin, who was even happier than they were when he learned the news.
A week later, Kevin returned from his business trip. Lying in bed at night, they hugged each other tightly as absence made their heart grow fonder. Bella said, “Kevin, did the trip go well?”
Kevin deliberately lied to her, “It didn’t go well.”
“Didn’t go well? How could it not go well? I dreamed of the stars every night!”
“Why are you dreaming about the stars?” Kevin was confused.
“The astrology book says that as long as you can dream of the stars, your career will go well.”
“Oh, so, no wonder my business trip didn’t go well this time…”
“I said I’ve dreamed about it.”
“What’s the use of you dreaming about it. I’m doing the business. My dreams are dominated by you alone. I don’t have the opportunity to dream about the stars.”
Bella chuckled and asked joyfully, “So, you dream about me every night?”
“Yes, I dreamed that you became so ugly, full of expectorant spots, having a big belly walking in the street with no one being attracted by you.”
“Nasty, then you must be having an affair. It is said that when a woman is pregnant men are most likely to cheat. Honestly, what did you do in Dubai? You dreamed about me at night. Did you dream that I went to catch the adultery…?”
“Want me to tell the truth?”
“Sure.”
Kevin rolled over and pressed her underneath him, “I dreamed we were doing this.” Kevin leaned down and kissed her lips hard, her mouth open, sucking in her fragrant tongue.
“Mmmm…”
Bella struggled with both hands and tried to push Kevin away. Kevin had been holding it in for a long time. He said with a red face, “Honey, the doctor told us not to have sex in the first trimester of pregnancy, but we can do it properly later. Am I remembering it correctly?”
Kevin smiled wickedly, with the implication that he was reminding Bella that the trimester passed and she could satisfy him a little.
