Alice stubbornly stared at the ground and didn’t defend herself. Even if she was feeling aggrieved, she wouldn’t tell Louis that it was because they were smearing the relationship between her and him.
“Alice, come to my office!”
Louis growled with a grim face, turned around and walked out.
That female teacher raised her head proudly, and Alice glanced at her angrily and followed her out.
Standing in the principal’s office, Alice kept her head down and didn’t speak, allowing Louis to look at her like a monster.
“Do you have anything to explain to me?”
“You won’t believe anything I say anyway.”
Louis raised his eyebrows, “You didn’t say anything, so how do you know I won’t believe you?”
“Your attitude just now says it all.”
He was helpless and got up to walk over to her, “You think I don’t know why you’re fighting them, right? It’s still because of your flash marriage with me.”
Only then did Alice raised her head and said in aggravation, “If you know, why are you still so mean to me?”
“You’ll have a harder time later if I speak for you, dummy!”
He poked her forehead hard and pointed to the couch next to her, “Sit over there.”
Alice turned around and sat on the sofa. Like a mummy, she didn’t move.
Louis took a small medicine case, then sat next to her, and gently disinfected the scratches for her and put on some salve.
“I didn’t think you were so good at fighting. Half of Ms. Reed’s eyes are blue.”
Alice didn’t speak.
“She’s an intern teacher. Don’t lower oneself to the same level as her. I’ll punish her.”
Alice still didn’t say anything.
“Don’t hit anyone impulsively in the future. This would create a bad impression.”
Louis saw that she had been silent, head down, and actually saw tears in Alice’s eyes. He was softhearted. He sighed lightly and said nothing anymore, stretched out his arm to give her a comforting hug. This was the first time Louis took the initiative to hug Alice. The moment she leaned into his shoulder, Alice’s tears finally fell down.
Bella used the day and night to finally make herself accept the fact that she originally couldn’t accept, and she decided to talk it over with Kevin frankly.
In the evening, Kevin took a shower and came out. Bella sat on the sofa and waved at him, “Kevin, come here. I have something to say to you.”
Kevin wiped the water stains on his hair with a towel as he walked over to her, “What?”
“I’ll do it.”
She took his towel and sat him down on the couch, then, gently wiped the water stains on his hair.
“Kevin, you actually want to be a father, right?”
Kevin was shocked and asked in a deep voice, “What’s the point of bringing this up properly? ”
“If you want to be a father, I’ll make it happen.”
Kevin seemed to anticipate something, turned around and squeezed her arm, “What do you mean?”
“Mom and Dad talked to me and they want to find a surrogate mother to have a baby for you.”
“Ridiculous!”
Kevin angrily shook off her hand, “This is nonsense. Don’t tell me you don’t have a problem with this.”
Bella endured the pain in her heart and said with great difficulty, “I’ve already agreed to it.”
Kevin stared incredulously and suddenly growled, “Are you out of your mind? How can you agree to such a thing? Didn’t we agree to adopt a child?!”
“It’s a deal, but Mom and Dad don’t agree, so what can I do?”
“They disagree, but as long as I agree, then it will be settled. You’re living with me, not them!”
“But I can’t do that. I don’t have the luxury of looking out for my own happiness and not caring about anyone else’s.”
“So can you even abandon your pride?”
Bella buried her face in her hands and wept, “It’s the only way I can hold on to my marriage. As long as I can be with you, I can bear injustice and pain. Self-esteem means nothing to me. I told you a long time ago that in my Bella’s life, self-esteem is the most worthless thing.”
Kevin saw her crying sadly, but he wasn’t softhearted, but told her clearly, “There’s no way I’ll agree to that.”
“Then we get divorced.”
Bella looked up tearfully, “I can’t afford to carry the charge of causing your Jones-Sharps family to have no child, and I will be shameful to see Jones-Sharps family’s ancestors after I die in the future.”
Kevin looked at her in shock and said shakily, “Is divorce that easy for you to say?”
“There’s nothing that can’t be said by tormenting your own heart, and if you were me, you would understand my frustration.”
Bella looked exhausted. Her life now was torment and painful every second. She really had been about to be overwhelmed by the cruel reality.
Kevin knew the pain in her heart, and also knew the pressure she was under, he hugged her sadly, “Bella, we don’t have to be extreme. Now that medicine is advanced, we can use our eggs and sperm to let others conceive our children for us …”
Bella cried and shook her head, “It’s no use. I’ve had the same thought, but it’s been shattered by reality once again.”
“Why is it useless?”
“Mum has already called and consulted with her best friend Adiana in the US that the medication I am taking is not suitable for extracting an extra-uterine egg to conceive and that conception is only possible in my own womb.”
Her heart really ached beyond words when she thought about that day when her mother-in-law told her the news. Any medication had side effects and the western drugs she was taking had already made the eggs extremely fragile, like a child who had lived with her mother for over a decade and couldn’t adapt in a different environment.
“Then we’ll wait until you’re cured, and then we’ll have children.”
“And what if I can’t be cured all the time?”
Kevin was stunned, “If we can’t cure it, we’ll adopt.”
“All that said it’s still adoption. My father-in-law said you’re already thirty years old. A man will be looked down upon if he doesn’t have a child at that age. I can wait, but I can’t let people look down on you. I don’t want people judge you behind your back. You’ve been married for so long yet you don’t even have a child.”
“I don’t care. I don’t care what people say!”
“I care. I care what people gossip about you.”
Bella sobbed, “Kevin, I beg you. Please promise me. I know your feelings for me, but it’s really unknown whether my disease can be cured or not. Day by day, my pressure is getting heavier. If there’s a child in this family, and that child is your own son, then I can take my breath, and I won’t feel deeply guilty …”
The veins on Kevin’s forehead popped up. He suddenly stopped saying anything, turned around and left the bedroom, stomping down the stairs.
“Are you guys going to force Bella to die?!”
Standing downstairs in the living room, Kevin hysterically questioned his parents. Blanche was paled and went forward to explain, “Kevin, you calm down, we …”
“How do you expect me to calm down when you let my wife come and talk me into having a baby with another woman? You know she has no choice but to force her to agree. Don’t you have any conscience? When I hated you for the nasty things you did to Freya’s parents, who did everything possible to get me back into this house and make me quell my hatred for you? Now that you have your sons again, but no longer care about your daughter-in-law’s feelings. Is this the principle of your life?!”
“They didn’t force me.”
Bella chased down the stairs and stood behind Kevin, choking and shouting.
“I agreed to this willingly, so please don’t blame anyone.”
“You keep silent!”
Kevin growled angrily and continued to question his parents, “Is it really that important to pass on the family name? Is it so important that it still doesn’t matter even if you tramples other people’s egos underfoot? What’s wrong with the adopted child? Who stipulates that children must flow their own blood?”
“If the child doesn’t have your own blood flowing, then he can’t be considered a family member, and he can never unite with us.”
Patrick also retorted loudly.
“Is it to once again force me to leave this family?”
“Even if you leave the house, my position will never change. I can back down from anything, except this.”
“What’s the use of keeping your position when you don’t have a son anymore?”
“If I have no son, then it will be okay that our family can’t pass our name. But now I have Kevin. So I will never agree to adopt a child who is not related by blood!”
Patrick’s expression was heavy, and for the first time, he was arguing with his son.
“Then from now on, you can pretend you don’t have a son!”
Kevin turned to leave. Patrick bellowed, “If you dare to take a step out of this family, I’ll consider you to have given up all the family business.”
Bella heard that and her heart ached. She rushed to Kevin, begging, “Kevin, don’t go. All your misfortunes are because of me. If you lose everything again because of me, I will never feel at ease in my life …”
“I don’t care for property at all.”
Kevin shook off her hand and continued to walk forward. Suddenly, Blanche fell straight down, “Mom-”
“Blanche-”
Hearing a panicked cry, Kevin was sad and turned back. A few people were around Blanche and pinched her philtrum, and stuffed her mouth with medicine. After that, Blanche finally woke up, gazed at her son and weakly said, “If you leave this house again, I will not live …”
Kevin clenched his fists and suddenly roared like a wild beast, “Fine, I promise. If this is what you want, then let’s do it!!!”
He stared at Bella fiercely, turned around and walked out angrily.
Bella squatted on the ground and cried sadly. Kevin was sad and she felt bad. She was the saddest …
