In Conrad’s heart, Freya was always the same pure and kind girl who wore white clothes like an angel many years ago.
Although, she had started to change a bit now, he still imagined her as she was in the beginning.
“It’s not that I’m selfish. It’s that I am not blessed. You know better than anyone else how I’ve spent the last three years, and even better than anyone else why I’ve come back.”
“Yes, I know it well, but do you remember what did you tell me when you decided to come back in the first place? You said that if he still loved you, you would never leave him again, but if he no longer loved you, then you would let him go.”
“That’s what I said, but did I know then that my parents were dead? Did I know that your aunt killed my parents? If I knew it, I wouldn’t have said that. Even the kindest of people are forced by reality to be unkind!”
Conrad took a deep breath and asked her, “You’re determined to intervene in someone else’s marriage, aren’t you?”
Freya burst into tears and said in a broken voice, “I don’t want this either, but I have no way back. I am heartbroken when I think of my parents’ death. If I can’t get the man I want, then my parents really died worthlessly…”
“What do your parents’ deaths have to do with my cousin? Are you sure you’re doing this because you love him and not to get back at his parents?”
“It’s because I love him!! I love him!!!”
Freya ranted hysterically.
“If that’s the case, you shouldn’t have left in the first place. Since you left, you shouldn’t have come back to hurt some innocent people!!!”
Conrad was even more emotional than she was. This was the first time they had had a quarrel with each other since they had met. There was no denying that what Freya had said today had disappointed him greatly.
In the hospital, Bella was dragged over by Kevin for a detailed examination. No matter how she explained that she wasn’t injured, he didn’t believe her.
When she left the examination room, she stared at him with a smile, “Do you believe me now?”
Kevin nodded, “Mm, now I believe you and feel relieved.”
She pointed at his forehead, “You should worry about yourself. Your head was bleeding.”
“It’s fine. I am just bruised.”
“Your wound needs to be bandaged too. Otherwise, you will get a bacterial infection or get tetanus.”
Bella even shoved him into the room and said to him, “You stay here and bandage it up. I’ll go see how Alvin and Alice are doing.”
Alvin and Alice lay in two adjoining wards. Alvin fractured his wrist, and there were six stitches in his scalp. Alice fractured her thigh, and there were four stitches in the back of each hand. Both of them were in plaster casts, unable to move.
Bella pushed open the door, walked in, and asked Alice, “The anesthesia has worn off. It hurts now, doesn’t it?”
Alice shook her head weakly, “Fine, it’s not very painful.”
In fact, how could it not hurt? Alice just didn’t want her best friend to worry too much about her.
Bella touched her face in distress, “Thank God, it didn’t hurt my face. Otherwise, it would have left a scar on your beautiful face.”
“How else would my hand be hurt like this?”
The glass swished as the cars collided and flew towards them. She instinctively reached out to cover her face. The front half of the car was deformed, and one of her legs was crushed out of joint.
“By the way, is Alvin okay?”
“He hurt his head. I don’t know if he’s hurt his brain nerves. I’ll go talk to him and see if his brain is going to be normal.”
Bella left Alice’s ward and came next door. When she was just about to push the door open, she saw a woman sitting by Alvin’s bedside through a small piece of transparent window. The woman was mature and beautiful from the back, not Lena, Bella’s sister-in-law.
Bella heard the noise inside. They seemed to have a quarrel. Bella stopped.
“What do I have to explain to you to convince you that I really have been at home tonight and haven’t gone anywhere?”
“But I saw you pass me in a man’s car.”
“How is that possible? This is just too much of a fantasy. I was at home watching TV, but you saw me with another man. Was that ghost?”
“If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have lost control of myself and chased after it, thus causing such a serious traffic accident!”
“You’ve been drinking tonight, haven’t you?”
Alvin didn’t speak.
“You must have drunk, right?”
Winifred went on, “Tell me!”
“So what if I did?”
“You get delirious because you are drunk. That’s why you mistook another woman for me. I can understand that you miss me all the time. But you can’t blame me for the traffic accident.”
“I didn’t drink too much. I could control my speed.”
“Anyway, you drank. Traffic rules are clear on drinking and driving. Every drunk driver who has an accident couldn’t shift the blame upon his girlfriend or wife in another man’s car.”
Winifred said so much that Alvin began to delude. Could it really be that he was really drunk?
Seeing him in deep thought, Winifred immediately said again, “Alvin, we’ve been in love for two years. You know best what kind of person I am. I only love you.”
“Okay, you can go back first. Leave me alone.”
“I’m not leaving. How can there be no one around to take care of you?”
“I’m fine.”
“You are not fine. You hit your head. Your arm is broken.”
Alvin could only let her stay here, “Well, if you want to stay here, then do it. It’s just that staying up all night is not good for your health.”
“It’s okay. I can do everything for you, not to mention say stay up all night.”
“Don’t be so mushy.”
Winifred laughed, “It’s just for you. Are you hungry? I’ll go home and get you some supper, okay?”
Alvin nodded, “Okay, I only drank wine at night and didn’t eat anything. I’m a little hungry this time.”
“Then I’ll go home and get ready. Stay here, and I’ll be back soon.”
After saying that, she bent down and kissed him on the cheek. Alvin laughed, “Oh, that’s enough. It’s too much.”
“Too much…?”
As they were flirting, Bella knocked on the door and she walked in “Alvin, are you feeling better?”
“Oh, yes.”
Winifred sized Bella up, nodded with her as a greeting, and winked at Alvin, “I’ll go first.”
“Mm.”
Bella watched Winifred leave and then sat in front of Alvin. She looked serious.
“What’s wrong? Is anyone dead as a result of my mistake?”
“You lost control because you saw a figure very similar to your girlfriend, didn’t you?”
Alvin’s eyes flickered, “Maybe I was just dazzled.”
“Is it really just possible? Didn’t it ever occur to you that it was indeed her?”
“What do you mean?”
Bella sighed, “I heard from Lena the other day. She also saw your girlfriend with a man in a café. Did Lena mistake her for another woman too?”
“Winifred looks like many women.”
Bella smiled sarcastically, “You love her so much. You are willing to believe that she’s having an affair with another man.”
“Would you easily doubt your husband?”
“That’s different.”
“How is it different? Do you love him so deeply?”
“…”
Bella was completely speechless. People in love really did have a generally lower IQ. How capable and smart Alvin was. However, when faced with love, he was also no different from a retarded child.
“Anyway, I’m just reminding you out of the kindness. As to whether you value it or not, that’s up to you. Very well, then, I’m going home now. Have a good rest.”
“Mm.”
After leaving Alvin’s ward, Bella returned to Alice’s room and told that she should recuperate well. And then she came to the wound treatment room, Kevin’s forehead was already bandaged. She couldn’t help but giggle as she watched his look. Kevin raised his eyebrows, “What are you laughing at?”
“Look at you! You look like a Japanese samurai.”
“It’s because of you that I have the opportunity to be a samurai.”
“Thank you! Thank you for your cooperation, your tolerance, and your protection today.”
Bella looked at him gratefully at the thought of the moment the car accident happened. She and Freya had different feelings. Freya was angry, while she was relieved.
Bella finally believed that Kevin’s feelings for her were actually not much less than his for Freya.
“Let’s go back to Cloud Mansion, shall we?”
“Now?”
“Yes.”
Kevin looked at the watch on his wrist, “It’s late. Let’s go back tomorrow.”
It was indeed a bit late. Even if she wanted to surprise her mother-in-law, there was no hurry for this moment, let alone her mother-in-law definitely went asleep already.
Bella and Kevin returned to the seaside villa. After taking a shower, they lay on the bed. Bella leaned on Kevin’s bosom and said, “Time is really the best medicine to forget a person. Three years passed. You finally forgot the deep love between you and Freya.”
Kevin sighed, “It’s not that time made me forget certain people and certain things, but you, who appeared in my life later. You came suddenly so that before I had time to sort out the past, I was already trapped in your carefully woven web of love and couldn’t set myself free.”
“Do you regret it? Will you sometimes compare me and Freya and think which of us is best for you?”
