Kevin hung up the phone and turned back to see that Bella left. He looked around the restaurant and soon found that she was talking to Mr. Jobson’s assistant. He couldn’t help but smile and exclaim, “She’s really stubborn.”
“Please, just let me meet Mr. Jobson. I have something important to tell him.”
The assistant shook his head, “I’m sorry. Mr. Jobson does not want to see anyone.”
“But I’m really in a hurry. I have something I need to confirm with him.”
“Anyone who wants to see Mr. Jobson has a very good reason. Excuse me.”
“Can’t you make an exception?”
“Miss, don’t make it any harder for me. I’m just a maid who takes care of life for Mr. Jobson. I don’t have the right to make an exception.”
Bella sighed in disappointment. Suddenly, she thought of a way. She might have a chance to meet him.
Bella quickly removed a pair of earrings from her ears and said to the assistant, “Please help me take this to Mr. Jobson. Tell him that the owner of this pair of earrings wants to see him. He will definitely see me after seeing the earrings.”
When the assistant saw how insistent she was, he had no choice but to agree, “Well, okay then, I’ll try, but don’t get your hopes up too much.”
“Well, okay, thanks a lot.”
The assistant took her earrings and left the restaurant. Bella was waiting for him, apprehensive. After about ten minutes, the assistant returned with excellent news for her, “Congratulations, Mr. Jobson has agreed to see you. Please follow me.”
Bella almost jumped up in excitement. She walked out of the restaurant along with the assistant. Louis and Alice were very surprised to see Bella following the assistant. She gave them an OK gesture, and the few of them probably understood what was going on. They cracked a smile all of a sudden.
And then Bella saw Kevin. He looked surprised at her. She proudly raised her chin, made a face at him, and left.
After following the assistant for a long distance, she finally arrived at her destination, Mr. Jobson’s study.
She was standing by the door, and the assistant knocked on the door, “Mr. Jobson, that lady is here”
“Let her in.”
Bella heard Mr. Jobson cough. His voice was hoarse and weak. Bella felt a little guilty. She just thought that Mr. Jobson was aloof and lofty, but now it seemed that he was really not in a good shape.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said that he would never see his guests again after ten years.
“Please go inside.”
The assistant pushed the door open, and Bella took a deep breath and walked in.
In front of her was a large study room with countless books. Mr. Jobson was sitting in a sea of books. Bella was confused, unable to associate the learned and respected man in front of her with the old beggar who couldn’t even fill his stomach for a few months.
“Please sit down.”
Mr. Jobson stood up and led her to the sofa on the left side of the study. And then he poured her a cup of green tea and said with a smile, “Are you confused right now?”
“Yes.”
Bella didn’t hide her puzzlement, “It’s a bit rude, but I’d like to know if you’re the beggar I met at the beach in the first place.”
Mr. Jobson smiled kindly and nodded, “Yes.”
“Why? Why were you a beggar a few months ago and now a few months later…?”
“Didn’t you say that? As long as I live, it is possible for me to become rich. I’ve fulfilled your original prophecy.”
“You must be joking. What is this all about?”
Bella would never believe that Mr. Jobson had changed from a beggar to this rich man. Kevin had already said that Mr. Jobson was his mentor many years ago.
“Actually, it’s also because we’re destined to meet each other. At that night, I was chatting with a friend in a café. I saw you walking muddled in the rain, and you looked desperate at the time. I thought that there was a chance that you might kill yourself, so I changed clothes with the beggar on the roadside. And I followed you to the beach, and then habitually saved your life.”
“Habitually?”
“Yes, I’ve saved about ninety-eight people in my life, even including you.”
Ninety-eight…
Bella took a deep breath. She suddenly understood why Mr. Jobson could be called a god-like existence and why so many schools wanted to invite him to give a speech. He spent his lifetime to save nearly a hundred people. He must deep inside…
“Thank you.”
Bella was sincerely grateful, and she felt heartfelt admiration for a man for the first time in her life.
“You’re welcome. I saw you just now when you called me beggar in the parlor and was quite surprised. In fact, even if you hadn’t brought me the earrings, I would have asked to see you alone after dinner.”
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t control my emotions because I was so shocked.”
“Oh, that’s okay. Why did you want to see me? You are hesitant to say something.”
Bella glanced at his thin cheeks and couldn’t beat to speak up about the purpose of this trip, “I… don’t really have anything to do.”
Mr. Jobson was the best at psychological tactics. How could he not see whether there was something important, “It’s fine. Just say whatever you have to say.”
Upon hearing him say that, Bella decided to tell him the purpose of this trip.
“Actually, it is time for the senior high school entrance examination. The students are under quite a lot of pressure. The principal would like to invite you to give a speech to our students. We have heard that your words can change a person’s life. We are all looking forward to your speech.”
As soon as Bella finished speaking, she nervously waited for Mr. Jobson’s reply. He frowned, and she immediately said, “It’s okay. If you are not feeling well, you can refuse. I will never have any complaints against you.”
“Okay, I promise you.”
Bella’s heart thudded. She couldn’t’ believe it, “Are you sure?”
“Yes, here’s my card. Call me when you get me a schedule.”
“Thank you so much. Thank you so much.”
Bella took his business card with both hands, grateful beyond words.
…
Out of Mr. Jobson’s study, Bella noticed that thunder was rolling outside and the lightning flashed across the sky. A rainstorm was about to hit the city. Bella laughed. Fate was a wonderful thing. The first time she met Mr. Jobson, it was a rainy day. And the second time, it was still a rainy day.
The party wasn’t over yet. All the people were out, wanting to get back home before a torrential rain and the traffic jams.
“Bella, how’s it going?”
Alice waved her hands and looked at her expectantly.
Bella ran over and excitedly took out the business card and handed it to Louis, “Done!”
“Oh my God, that’s great. You’re my idol!”
Alice hugged Bella in excitement, hating to reward her with a kiss.
“Huh, where are Mr. Felton and Mr. Churchill?”
“They just left.”
As soon as Alice finished speaking, Kevin came over and grabbed Bella’s shoulders, “Let’s go. It’s going to rain.”
Bella nodded and waved at Alice, “I’m leaving then.”
“Wait a minute.”
Alice grabbed her and looked askance at Kevin, “Can you take me for a ride?”
Bella was startled. She immediately thought that Mr. Churchill and Mr. Felton had already left first. If Bella also left, then Alice would have to face Louis alone. Alice didn’t want to face him so awkwardly after being rejected.
“Okay.”
Kevin naturally also understood Alice’s thoughts, so he agreed.
Louis glanced at them meaningfully, opened the door, and drove the car away silently.
Alvin was sitting in the driver’s seat. Bella sat in the back seat, and Kevin also sat in the back seat. Alice felt that she couldn’t be a third wheel, so she sat next to Alvin.
When the car was about to start, someone knocked on the glass on Kevin’s right side. Kevin opened it in confusion, and he suddenly froze. It was Freya.
“Kevin, I can’t start my car, can you give me a ride?”
Freya wiped the rain on her head. It was raining.
Kevin looked askance at Bella. Seeing that she had tilted her head, he opened the door of the car and said, “Come in.”
