“You’re hesitant to confess to Kevin, aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t tell him.”
Blanche made a very serious statement.
“Why?”
“Actually, I already knew about Conrad in France, but I didn’t tell anyone. Kevin has already suffered enough from Freya, and I never want him to have anything to do with her again.”
“But if you don’t tell him, he’ll blame me later if he finds out.”
“As long as you don’t admit to seeing a picture of them, he won’t know that the Parker you met in France is Conrad.”
Bella was silent for a long time before she nodded, “Good.”
In fact, she didn’t want Kevin to be involved with the past anymore, whether he still loved Freya now or not.
Taking the contract of the resort to the tea house where she met with Wilson yesterday, she asked as soon as she met him, “Where are the things?”
Wilson took the recorder out of his pocket, pressed the play button to make sure it was what she wanted. She handed over the contract, “Sign it.”
Bella deleted all the contents of the recorder in front of Wilson and threw it into the trash can by the table.
When Wilson finished signing the contract, he smiled and said, “Thank you, in the future, when I get rich, I will compensate you properly.”
She scoffed with a mocking sneer, “It’s an extravagance that I didn’t even have when I was a kid, and even less so when I grow up.”
She sharply got up, took the contract and decisively left…
She drove to the company and stood in front of Kevin’s office, but was so uneasy. When she thought about the fact that she had seen Conrad, she felt that she didn’t have the courage to face Kevin.
The door puffed open and Alvin came out from inside, “Hey, ma’am, aren’t you going in?”
“Well, I’m in.”
She smiled stiffly and walked in heavily.
“My dad signed the contract.”
Kevin stretched his back and patted his leg, “Sit over here.”
She sat over nicely.
“How do you plan to repay me?”
“Do you need any more payback?” She swallowed.
“Of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
Looking at his passionate gaze, she said shyly, “Then tonight we’ll go home and…”
“No, I want it now.”
Kevin said, and touched her eagerly.
There was a knock on the office door, and Bella stood up, quickly straightened her clothes, blushed and sat down on the sofa. Then she picked up a magazine and read it down.
“Mr. Jones-Sharp, Mr. Tom from AP America is here.”
“Invite him in.”
“Good.”
Alvin turned to walk out after reporting, and when he passed in front of Bella, he gave a meaningful reminder, “Madam, you took the book backwards.”
Bella blushed, and felt really embarrassed. She stood up and said in a panic, “I’m leaving, bye.”
Without waiting for a response from Kevin, she slipped away.
At four in the afternoon, Bella received a call from Kevin, saying that they would go for seafood together after work, and she agreed.
At five o’clock sharp, she and Kevin hand in hand into the seafood restaurant, but very unfortunately, she met Louis.
Bella did not stay in France, and Louis still didn’t know about that. When they encountered, not only was Bella startled, Louis was more shocked.
He looked at Bella’s hand, which was held tightly by Kevin. Suddenly, he felt heartbroken, got up and asked, “Did you not go to Paris?”
Bella nodded guiltily, “Well, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I’ll give someone else the chance for further study in Paris then.”
“Good.”
Louis said and left the seafood restaurant without looking back. Bella stared at his sad back and felt sorry.
“It’s been so far. Are you still staring at him?”
Kevin was suddenly jealous and very unhappily turned her head over to face him.
“I just feel guilty about him.”
“Are you guilty for not going to Paris? What do you have to do with him if you’re going to Paris to further your education?”
“He cares about me too.”
Kevin became even more unhappy and tapped his fingers on the table, “Do you know what you’re saying now? You say that other men care about you in front of your own husband.”
“Why are you jealous again. Was I jealous of you when I get a bucket of ketchup thrown at me by Brittany?”
“That’s because you’re clear that I don’t like Brittany.”
“Then aren’t you clear that I don’t like Louis?”
“I never notice another woman more than once, but what about you? I don’t know how long you’ve stared at other men.”
Bella rolled her eyes, “Why are you so narrow-minded?”
“It’s not that I’m narrow-minded, but Louis’s love is too obvious.”
“Then what did you want? Are you going to argue with me here?”
Kevin snorted, “My time is precious. I don’t have time to fight with you.” Saying that, he beckoned to the waiter, “Steamed crab, boiled crab, grilled crab, fried crab, fried crab, a dozen or so of each.”
“A dozen or so?” Bella questioned in horror, “Can you finish eating?”
“Yeah.”
“You’ll die from overeating.”
“It is better than being mad at you.”
Bella shook her head speechlessly, took a sip of plain water and said, “So far for that, I don’t even know how you are mad at me. It’s just that I’ve been looking at other men more.”
“Is it not enough? Are you going to hug or kiss him or something?”
“Why are you so mean-spirited?”
“Fine, I’ll take a beautiful girl swimming some other day. I’ll see how generous you are.”
Bella was simply going to be mad…
“Lena is always right.”
“What?”
“You’re making people insane.”
“And who’s insane because of me so far?”
“Not yet.”
“Yes, after a few decades, when you can’t walk any further, can’t see anything clearly and your hair is white. Then it’s time.”
The waiter brought up all kinds of crabs, and Bella picked one up and stuffed it into Kevin’s mouth, “Quickly plug your mouth.”
“I’ll clean you up at home tonight.”
Kevin glared at her, but he thoughtfully removed the shell of a crab and put the meat into Bella’s bowl.
Bella looked at that tender crab meat, and felt sweet. Kevin was actually quite good. Despite of quarreling, he was considerate to her.
After Louis left the seafood restaurant, he was at lost. Although Bella did not say anything, from her and Kevin intimate expression, they loved each other.
He sadly came to a pub, drinking wine alone. Gradually, he got drunk, took out his cell phone and called Alice. Alice received the call and rushed over.
“Mr. Hunter, what’s wrong? Why are you drinking so much?”
Alice was heartbroken and anxious and snatched his wine glass.
“Alice, tell me honestly. Is Bella in love with that bastard Kevin?”
Alice was startled, nodding and shaking her head in embarrassment, “Why are you asking this properly. Didn’t she go to France?”
“No, she didn’t go. I just met her. She was holding hands with Kevin with such a happy smile on her face. I’ve never seen her smile like that before…”
Louis felt heartbroken as he thought of that moment he saw Bella.
Alice was surprised that Bella hadn’t contacted her after she came back, so she didn’t know about her not staying in France yet.
“Don’t be sad. Love is something that can’t be forced.”
She really didn’t know how to comfort Louis.
“Alice, you know best don’t you? You know best how much I love Bella, and how I’ve been quietly guarding her for the past few years, don’t you?”
Alice looked away, quickly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, “Yes, I know, I know best.”
“Then can you tell me where I’m not good enough? Why does she fall in love with a man like Kevin, but won’t even give me a chance to get along?”
Louis, there was nothing bad about you, but only I can see your good.
She said in her heart silently looking at him. After all, she was the lack of courage to say it.
“It’s not that you’re not good. But Bella doesn’t want to hurt you.”
“Why?”
Louis was stunned, and confused.
“Her original purpose of marrying Kevin was just to use him to avenge her mother’s death, but she accidentally lost her heart to him in the process of getting along with him.”
“Revenge? Revenge for what?”
Alice could not bear to refuse him, so she told all of Bella’s encounters to Louis.
After hearing this, Louis did not speak for a long time. He drank one glass after another. No matter how hard Alice persuade, he could not stop drinking.
Suddenly, he put down his glass of wine and swayed out of the pub. Alice hurriedly followed him out and dragged his arm, “Where are you going so late?”
“Let go of me.”
He shook her off and stubbornly walked forward.
Alice was unsure and followed, “Where the hell are you going? You just tell me and I’ll drive you there, okay?”
“Don’t follow me again.”
He turned around, said to Alice like a command and a warning, and Alice bit her lip and turned around angrily. But after a few steps, she returned, and ultimately unable to let him wandering the streets alone.
She kept a certain distance from him.
Louis walked for a long time, and Alice kept silently following him. She was sad to find that he had come to the Cloud mansion where Bella lived.
He seemed to be on the phone, and because she was far away, she couldn’t hear what he was saying, but Alice knew that he must be calling Bella.
