After Gillian hung up the phone, Richard called her again, nothing more than asking when she went to T city, to pick her up and so on. As if they colluded with each other, she was cornered.
On Saturday night, Bella had a nightmare. A cold sweat broke out, after which she was unable to sleep.
She was alone in front of the window of the secret room, staring out of the moon, and bursting out tears. They had been married for three months, but so far they weren’t real couple. She went to open the door, quietly walked to Kevin, who was sleeping very deeply. Under the moonlight, he looked handsome. She could not help but reach out and want to touch, but he suddenly spoke, ” You get up so late. Are you sleepwalking?”
Bella shrank back in shock and replied glumly, “I… just taking a walk.”
Kevin sat up straight and pressed on the bedside lamp, “Are you out for a walk in the middle of the night?”
“I just had a nightmare, and then couldn’t sleep. So I wanted to see if you were asleep.”
“I’ve always been a sensitive sleeper. I can detect the slightest movement.” He looked at the time on the wall clock, “It’s only two o’clock. Aren’t you going to sleep?”
Bella was silent, and suddenly looked up and said, “Is it all right for me to sleep here? I just lie down for a while.”
She was completely hopeless, ready to be rejected by him.
Kevin was stunned for a few seconds, but to her surprise, he nodded, “Okay, come on up.”
He moved back to make a place for Bella. Bella lay over nervously. Kevin covered her with the blanket, then turned off the light.
In the darkness, she shed tears, and slowly stretched out her hand and hugged Kevin from his sturdy back.
Kevin’s body suddenly froze. He turned over to face her, and when Bella saw that he hadn’t pushed her away, she burrowed into his arms and choked out, “You suggested having a child before. I’ve already thought about it, and I agree.”
Kevin’s body froze and he sighed, “Bella, it was a suggestion before, but I’m sorry for ever proposing such a selfish and absurd idea to you.”
“Why? Is it any different now?”
“I used to think only of myself, but now I’m starting to want to think of you, too.”
Bella’s heart jumped, with a hint of surprise and expectation that he would say he had even the slightest crush on her.
“Why do you want to think of me now?”
She plucked up the courage to ask, and then, apprehensively, waited for his answer.
“You’re like family and friend to me. You accompanied me when I was most confused. So if I couldn’t love you, I would never use you as a fertility tool. It is irresponsible. I am grateful to you, so I can’t do it anymore.”
As his family, friends, but not lovers, Bella finally experienced the sudden disappointment.
“Let’s divorce.”
She made this decision not because of impulse or heartache, but because of repeated thinking in the past few days.
Kevin sat up sharply, obviously shocked by her words. He was very startled and sad. He asked Bella before what he planned to do in the future, she said even they had no love at all, she would also stay by his side. At that time, he did not say anything but was indeed very pleased. But now she suddenly proposed a divorce, he was completely unprepared, and was actually speechless for a time.
“Are you serious?”
After a long period of calmness, Kevin finally accepted the truth, but still held a slight hope that Bella was just playing a joke on him.
“Yes, I have been thinking for three nights.”
He was a little agitated and pressed her shoulders, “Why? Did you promise to stay by my side even if I don’t love you?”
“I’m sorry. I thought I could do it, and I really wanted to do it, but all the realities proved that I can’t do it anymore. I really can’t.”
Bella couldn’t contain her sadness, and shed tears. Her tears dropped onto the back of her pale and weak hands.
Brittany’s humiliation, Gillian’s threats, Richard’s persecution, and Kevin’s heartlessness all pushed her to the brink. She was exhausted, and no longer had the strength to resist with the cruel reality.
Kevin slowly retracted his hand, slumped out of bed, went to the floor window, lit a cigarette in the dark. The faint light of a cigarette emitted curling smoke. She felt heartache.
Up to this moment, after experiencing disappointment in succession, she no longer hoped that Kevin would ask her to stay. Since he was indifferent and did not easily love or forget a person.
Never before had Bella envied the woman she had never met as she did now. Her name was Freya.
“You shouldn’t have any objections, right? If you feel that I’m the one who first brought it up to make you lose face, then tomorrow at breakfast, you can announce the news of divorcing me with your parents.”
Kevin still had his back to her, as if he hadn’t heard her words, or as if he had heard them, but didn’t want to answer.
Bella waited for a long time before finally waiting for Kevin’s answer, “Okay, I promise.” In fact, he couldn’t say no. He couldn’t give her what she wanted, so of course she could left.
It was true that you couldn’t expect too much from him. Bella smiled bitterly, but at the last moment, he still wouldn’t accept her love. In fact, if he asked her to stay, even if he still didn’t say he loved her, she would stay, but he didn’t.
“What are your plans after the divorce?”
Kevin’s voice trembled slightly.
“I will leave here and go to Paris for further studies.”
“Will you never come back?”
“If I don’t come back after two years, then I will not return.”
After another long silence, Kevin said, “Can you grant me a request?”
“If I could do it, I wouldn’t say no.”
“Don’t tell my parents about the divorce for a while. I don’t want them to be sad anymore.”
“But how long can you keep it a secret from them. You’ll never be able to have a new marriage in that way.”
Kevin mocked, “Do you think I’ll get married again after this divorce?”
“Why don’t you get married? Frequent marriages and divorces are your way of life, Kevin.”
“It’s my way of life, but now I’m tired of it. I promised a woman at the beach that I would try to be a normal person, other than not being able to forget the person in my heart ye. But I will change, no more temper tantrums, no more deliberate avoidance of reality, and being more serious about life.”
Again, Bella shed tears quietly.
“Okay, I promise you that too.”
She got down from his bed, and reminded, “Call me when it’s convenient for you to go through divorce procedures, but don’t delay too long. Because I’ve already signed the visa to Paris.”
Bella was disheartened. What she did next was to settle down with her uncle and aunt. If she left, Richard would certainly not let them go, and although they were some of her family members who had let her down, she ultimately couldn’t bear to leave them alone.
On the weekend morning, she came to her uncle’s house and told him, “Leave B City. You can go wherever you go.”
Armand seemed to anticipate something and asked nervously, “Why do you want to leave?”
“Because I won’t marry into the Cottons, and if Richard fails to achieve his goal, you and your aunt will be the target of his revenge.”
Looking at Bella’s haggard face, Armand felt a deep sense of remorse. After his sister’s death, not only did he fail to take care of Bella, but he troubled her all the time.
“Good, then I’ll take your aunt out of here tomorrow. We never come back again, and never become a burden to you again.”
“I’ll contact you when I’ve settled in.”
“Are you leaving?”
Armand was quite surprised.
“Yes.”
“What about your mother? Are you not going to avenge her?”
“We’ll talk later.”
Bella looked down gloomily. Now she couldn’t even take care of herself, how could she take care of her mother.
Leaving her uncle’s house, she called to ask Gillian out again. In the quiet and elegant cafe, Gillian looked at her, “Tomorrow is the deadline. Tell me, what is your choice?”
Instead of answering her, Bella just took the visa out of her bag and pushed it in front of her.
Gillian took her visa and looked at it, letting out a triumphant laugh, “That’s right. One should make such a wise choice to retain your poor and humble pride.”
“I left here, not because of your threats, but has my own reasons, so you don’t have to be so full of triumph. To put it bluntly, Gillian, you are never my opponent. Now you are victorious, not that you won, but I gave up of my own accord.”
Gillian shrugged in disagreement, “Losing is losing. But it’s okay. When you come back one day, Kevin will be my husband. Then you can learn from me and stop being so narrow-minded.”
Gillian laughed smugly, getting up and leaving.
Until her figure disappeared, Bella’s ears were still lingered with her disgusting laughter.
Since filing for divorce, Kevin began to leave early morning and return home late at night. She seldom saw him. Watching the day of the visa is getting closer, she had to call to urge him to go through the divorce procedures. But Kevin delayed for various reasons, either in a meeting, or in accompanying customers.
Bella wondered that she had never seen him so busy before. How could he become so busy now that she wanted to divorce?
Sp she decided to go directly to the company to find him and see if he was really too busy to take the time to meet her.
To the Jones-Sharp group, the head desk beauty warmly greeted her. Although this is her first time to the company, all the people in the company knew she was the wife of the president.
Take the lift on the ninth floor, Bella as tearful. If not for Kevin, she simply could not overcome the fear of the elevator. At that time she was so grateful to him, but now, she regretted instead. If that day, she insisted on not accepting his help, then everything would be different. She certainly won’t like him, so she won’t break up with him so soon.
When she arrived at the ninth floor, she saw the president’s office. She stepped forward, reached out and pushed the door open. Inside was a separate secretary’s room, and behind the secretary’s room was the president’s office.
When Alvin suddenly saw her, he was surprised and got up to greet her, “Madam, what are you doing here?”
“Where’s Kevin? I want to see him.”
“Oh, he is in a meeting.”
Bella could see in his eyes that he was lying, and she walked straight ahead, “I’ll wait for him inside, then.”
“Wait a minute.” He held out his hand to stop her, “I’ll lead you to the lounge and wait, Kevin doesn’t like visitors waiting directly in his office.”
“I’m not a visitor. I’m his wife.”
She identified herself and insisted on pushing the door open, and unsurprisingly, she saw Kevin sitting at his desk.
When Kevin suddenly saw her, he was also quite surprised. He glared at Alvin, who shook his head helplessly, indicating that he was doing his best.
“Weren’t you in a meeting?”
Bella walked up to Kevin and questioned with a sharp gaze.
“Oh, I just finished.”
“So it’s okay now, right? It’s fine, let’s go get the business done.”
Kevin thought about it and nodded, “Fine.”
He picked up the car keys and took the lead out of the office. Bella followed him, and when he reached the underground garage, Kevin backed up and asked, “Did you bring the residence record?”
Bella nodded, “Well, I bring it on.”
“You’re so eager to divorce me. I’m a little suspicious that you’re loving other man and want to get rid of me quickly and marry him.”
“Then you’re so obviously avoiding me. I’m equally suspicious that you don’t want to let me go.”
