Standing in the airport lobby, she was very torn, but it was useless to dwell on it. She only waited for the dawn before departing.
It was raining heavily in T city, while B city’s sky was full of stars.
Gillian and her friend had some fun and came home late. About 200 meters away from her door, she saw a sneaky figure. She stepped forward with the effects of wine and roared, “Who’s there?”
The person was so yelled by her, but actually scared to hold his head and cried. Listening to a man’s voice, she wondered she was so powerful to make a grown man cry.
“Hey, who the hell are you? What are you sneaking around my house?”
She rudely came forward and gave him a push.
Only then did the man stop crying, he peeked at her, and said timidly, “I, I’m looking for my wife.”
“Your wife? Who’s your wife? We don’t have your wife at home!”
“But it was the driver who sent me here with this address.”
The man busily felt a crumpled white paper from his jacket pocket, on which the address of the Burne-Browns was boldly written.
“It’s strange. Who gave this to you?”
“I stole it from my dad’s study.”
“And who is your father?”
“My dad’s a new rich.”
Pfft.
Gillian couldn’t help but laugh. He was turned out to be a fool.
“You’re looking in the wrong place. We don’t have your wife in the house, so go look elsewhere.”
Gillian turned to leave, but the man reached out and dragged her down, “You’re lying. My wife lives here.”
She shrugged him off impatiently and said in disgust, “Nuts, if you don’t leave, I’ll call the police.”
The man whimpered again, took out a six-inch photo in his pocket and muttered, “Bella, where are you? Don’t you want Braxton…?”
Gillian heard him call Bella, reached out and snatched the photo from his hand. She was startled after looking at it, “Is she your wife??”
Braxton nodded with a whimper, “Yeah.”
“You said she was your wife?”
Gillian was incredulous and asked again.
“Yeah, she’s the wife my dad bought me.”
For several whole minutes, Gillian remained silent, just staring at the picture, wondering if she should believe this fool’s words. What did the photo mean? The woman up here was indeed Bella who she hated so much.
“You really want to find your wife, don’t you?”
“Yes.”
Gillian looked cunning, “Alright then, I’ll take you to find her.”
She brought Braxton to a hotel and settled down, then began to ask what was going on. Although he was a fool and he didn’t say a complete sentence, after some speculation and analysis, she basically understood the matter.
“So, Bella is the one your father spent a lot of money to buy you as his daughter-in-law. As long as you all grow up, she’ll be your family member.”
Braxton nodded idiotically, “Yes.”
Gillian jumped up in excitement, “Hey, you’ve come at the right time, you know? Bella is perfect for you, and there is no one, ever, more perfect for her than you.”
The thought of knowing Bella’s secret made her excited. Being humiliated, Gillian wanted to revenge on Bella.
“Where’s my wife? Don’t you bring me to her?”
Gillian looked calm, “Don’t worry, she’s coming back tomorrow from a business trip. You sleep here for a while, and tomorrow I will definitely take you to her.”
Braxton scratched his head, “That’s okay.”
As soon as Gillian returned home, she dragged her sleeping mother up, “Mom, wake up, I have a big happy news to tell you.”
Colin blinked sleepily, “What is it? Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I’m sleepy.”
“No, I won’t be able to sleep tonight if I don’t tell you about this.”
She began to recount the story of how she met Braxton, and Colin was sober when she finished, “Really?”
“I promise it is true. Mom, this is our chance to fight back. As long as we spread out her secret, her marriage to Kevin is a fraudulent. Then let’s see if she can stay in the Jones-Sharps!”
“As long as we wait for Kevin to kick her out, we can humiliate her, and then she won’t be able to enter our house again. We can also spread her scandal so that she will be too completely ashamed to live in B City.”
Gillian was excited, but Colin frowned, “No, you can’t just go to the Jones-Sharps to expose this matter.”
“Why?”
“Don’t forget Bella marrying Kevin has something to do with your father and me. If you come to expose, then it’s hard to guarantee that Kevin won’t take out his grievances on us. So we should consider carefully before making a decision.”
Gillian felt that her mother had a point. So after a three-hour-long discussion, they finally decided to ask Bella out, so that Bella knew she was in a dilemma and gave up.
Bella had just flown back to B City from T City, and received a call from Gillian as soon as she got off the plane, “Hello?”
“Where are you? Come out and meet me.”
“I don’t have time.” She coldly refused.
Gillian seemed to have expected her to refuse, and was not angry, saying firmly, “You must come, or you will regret it.”
“Really? Give me a reason why I have to see you?”
“The reasons won’t be told to you yet. You’ll know when you come.”
“What if I have to insist on not going?”
“You’ll regret them. I’ll wait for you for half an hour, and I hope you’ll make a wise choice.”
Gillian hung up the phone. Bella was smart and instantly thought that Braxton had likely gone to the Burne-Browns. She immediately called back, “I’m not in B City right now, so I’ll see you at four in the afternoon.”
“Do you expect me to believe that?”
“If you don’t believe me, you can call the Jones-Sharps and ask, I’m attending my classmate’s wedding in T City.”
Gillian was suspicious, “Okay, I’ll ask.”
She also really called the Cloud Mansion. The one who answered the phone was the housekeeper. Once he heard that Gillian was looking for Bella, he answered truthfully that Bella was not at home. His answer was the same as what Bella said.
Bella hung up the phone and also immediately called Richard. They reached an agreement. She would find a hotel near the airport, patiently waiting for the couple to come over.
At 3:30 p. m., Bella once again received a call from Gillian, “Are you back yet?”
“I’m on my way to meet you.”
The taxi parked at a cafe in the center of town and she walked in calmly, and the moment she saw Braxton, she understood everything.
“Bella, Bella, I’ve finally found you. I’ve missed you so much.”
As soon as Braxton saw her, he jumped over and cried like a child.
She slowly pushed him away and calmly said, “Braxton, you’ve been naughty again. Do you know that mom and dad are worried about you?”
Gillian looked at them, and ironically smiled as she coughed, “Bella, if you want to complain about the pain of lovesick, can you wait until we’ve finished talking about business?”
“What business?”
“Are you still pretending? This man is your husband. I’m all too aware of it now.”
Bella snickered, “You have a vivid enough imagination. Who told you he is my husband?”
“He said so.”
“Do you want me to get an expert to identify him and see if he’s normal?”
Gillian’s face fell, “Maybe he has a problem with his IQ, but that doesn’t mean that what he says is also problematic.”
“If there’s a problem with his IQ, how can there no problem with what he says? You’re talking nonsense.”
“Are you trying to deny it now? If that hadn’t happened, how would he have known you and called you his wife?”
“I’m not saying I don’t know him, but I don’t admit that what you’re saying is right. He’s just a child of my godfather, a year younger than me, and formally considered my brother.”
“A younger brother? Do you think I’ve been fooled by you? I’m solemnly warning you, if you’re really that stubborn, then don’t blame me to be rude.”
“So what do you want?”
Bella looked at her and said very seriously, “Leave Kevin. It’s the only way you can get out of this at the moment.”
“Why should I listen to you?”
She smirked, “Because I get the goods on you, and even if you’re not reluctant, you’ll have to do what I say.”
“What if I’m not going to do what you say? What? Will you go to the Jones-Sharps to expose me?”
“Yes.”
Bella snorted, “You’ve been more brave than wise. Do you think that if you get rid of me, Kevin will like you?”
“I have my own way to let him like me, as long as you disappear.”
“Then don’t you think he’d be angry with the Burne-Browns? I think you know him well.”
“What does it matter to our family? We don’t ask you to marry this fool.”
Although Braxton was stupid, he would be upset to hear someone else call him a fool. He growled angrily at Gillian, “You’re the fool, ugly woman!”
Giggle…
Bella couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Gillian was just taboo about people calling her ugly, and now, her face was livid.
“Are you going to agree or not? I don’t have time to be with you guys!”
“What do I agree? Why should I agree to a trumped-up charge?”
Gillian was thoroughly annoyed and stood up, “Okay, Bella, we will see.”
She was just about to leave when she saw a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties. Before she could react, the man slapped Braxton, saying with an livid face, “Brat, you let us worry!”
It was as if he had slapped Gillian in the face, she blanked at once.
“Godfather, what are you hitting him for?”
Bella stepped forward to protect Braxton, looking distressed and condemning.
“Do you think it’s okay not to hit him? Whenever he sees a woman, he will call her wife, and now even he addresses you his wife. He’s really getting unruly!”
“It’s okay. He knows nothing.”
Bella looked askance at the gloomy looking woman on the side, “Godfather, let me introduce you, this is my sister Gillian.”
“Oh, so it’s Bella’s sister. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Gillian was angry, and sarcastically questioned, “When did you have a godfather? I don’t even know.”
“It is long ago. Thinking you might not be interested, so I didn’t tell you.”
As soon as Bella finished, the phone in her pocket rang. Looking at Kevin’s number, her eyelashes flickered, “I’ll take a call, you guys talk.”
Kevin rarely took the initiative to call her, and she was panic when she received his call at this time.
